There are some very good sites that have information on human sexuality. They aren't porn sites. sexuality dot org is a good place to start if you're interested.
Your attitude about sex is what determines whether certain things are fun or not. Anal sex can feel great. Plenty of people enjoy it. The homophobic aspect is when a man's heterosexual identity places anything that could be considered gay strictly off limits. many uptight straight men feel compelled to stand up and shout loudly that they are opposed to anything and everything even remotely related to gay sex. Also, if someone has been raised to believ sex is dirty or bad, they will likewise have an odd reaction to certain types of sexual experience.
Besides the phsyical pleasure, a strap on is used for penetration. Human sexuality includes the impulses to penetrate and be penterated, to have and be had, to mount and be mounted, etc. males have been born with the gear to penetrate, obviously, as females have been made to be penetrated.
