Just thought i'd put this question out there. I've had a guy tell me that tattoos on women aren't attractive, that getting a tattoo involves pain, and therefore isn't "feminine". What does everyone else think?

It's your body do what you like. Some thought should go into what the tattoo is . Your stuck with it. Think of how it's going to look when you get older. There is nothing wrong with a woman having tatoo's as long as she's happy.

I see nothing wrong with it as long as it is kept to a minimum. I think tattoos on a ladies back just over her butt are sexy, also a rose on one shoulder can be appealing....but tattoos visible all over the arms and legs are a turn off for me. No offense to the ladies that have them...it is just my preference

It's funny, I get a lot of messages telling me that my tattoos ruin my body and that I should stop before I tattoo my face, then I get emails telling me how beatiful they are and how nice they make me look. From another point of view, I love tattoos on men, especially japanese work. Personally,I have 8 tattoos, and I want more, but I'll never do my chest or legs. I will say that sometimes having them makes it diffucult to date because some guys don't want a chick who has all these tattoos on her. And some people think that people with tattoos are like drug addicts and are criminals and stuff. It's so not true. There are tons of people from all different walks of life with them now. Lawyers and judges and even priests. Any guy that dates me is going to have to like them.

depends on the woman, depends on the tat. some women can get away with almost their whole body covered and still be sexy, some can have 1 and it ruins her. I don't know why, it's just a visual thing. but overall I'd have to say that 1 or two smaller 1's can be quite sexy. and the LBT ( lower back tattoo) is ALWAYS hot!

I have 8 tats, I love my tats, my b/f loves me and has never even mentioned my tats. They are simply a part of me. My point? If you find that right person that loves and accepts you for YOU, then the tats mean nothing. Hold out for that one.

I guess I have no real feeling about em. I don't think they improve or disimprove a person. Would I get one myself? No, are you kidding? We are talking needles here.

I think it's interesting how many people say "I did it for ME", when ten or fifteen years ago only prostitutes and bikers had tattoos. Seems that if people really are doing it for themselves, they would have been doing it ten, twenty years ago too. I dunno, just thinking out loud. Maybe people today are doing it for themselves, and twenty years ago people were trying to be cool, hip, and impress their friends by *not* doing it.

Me, I think a tattoo on a 21 year-old nubile female is sexy, but after twenty years... she looks pretty run-down. So I would recommend against them.

I'm sure that I'll attract my share of flames now, but she did ask...

Speaking only from an identity point of view; I would never get a tatoo.
I do not want someone to say: yes officer, It was dark but, that's him! when a half dozen men have the same tat in the same place and, one of them robbed the liquor store LOL!
I also; wouldn't want my lady mis-identified in the same way.
Also;I believe the decision is age related; I am too old to want a pierced tongue.

By the Goddess people!!!!
If you dont want one don't get one! But what the heck is up with these people that feel they must be insulting to those that have them?
I have tattoos, and some are 20+ years old. I am NOT a circus side show. I am NOT a prostitute. I am NOT a biker. I am an account executive for a Fortune 500 company. I do not regret my tats now that I am older (and they look fine by the way, it's called restoration, otherwise known as upkeep, much like you do on any part of your anatomy to satisfy personal vanity). I am so glad that I am just here to participate in the forums and will NEVER have to meet any of these "so called" wonderful people that can make statements like that.

Tats and pierceings went from edgy to mainstream-pretending-to-be-edgy almost overnight. I have no interest in running with a pack of identical conformists pretending to be rebels. Judging by these forums, the way to be a true nonconformist is to date a short man, or a very large woman.

^^^Most people get tattoos these days because they like the way they look....not to conform to what is mainstream

The OP asked what we thought, that's what's up. It's not like I would pick a fight with anyone over it, but... she asked. It wouldn't be honest of me to pretend I thought otherwise, would it?

Uh, yeah. Just like tailfins, leisure suits, mullets, and platform shoes. People liked the way they looked. I agree with that much. But their preferences don't come from nowhere...

Linguatic, you seem to be insinuating that people with tattoos or peircings are trying to be "edgy" or "mainstream". Or pretending to be one or the other. Going by your attitude only, what would the only way to be a noncomformist? To conform? And what about those that are simply making a personal choice and have put no thought what so ever as to whether or not they are "conforming"? Are they "conforming" by NOT getting tattoos or peircings, or by getting them? Just curious.

@Linquatic...Maybe you should'nt think so much...you are comforming by wearing a leather jacket in your pic and maybe by the particular car you are driving...dos'nt that make you a hypocrite?

I personally wouldn't give a damn as long as its not.... like on her face or anything. But some females with tattoos on them are hella sexy! A guy that doesn't date a girl with a tattoo is probably a lil too damn judgmental but hey.... to each his or her own I guess...

P.S.
I can't stand when a person is overly judgmental or picky over silly issues *smiles*

Tattoos are definitely not feminine and I can not believe so many women are buying into this tattoo fad . Does not say alot about women. They are trashy and very masculine looking. Women should leave their bodies as is . Its a shame when I see a beautiful lady like Angelina Jolie and than she screws up her looks with those voluntary 'scars'. I am a guy and would never get one, but for women , especially, since they are masculine = NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO

You are generalizing tattoo's as masculine. Women for thousands of years have used tattoo's for beauty, art and identification. Beauty is subjective. However, to you it is skin deep.

I've met some girls that pull it off really well.

I do love tattoos on women, but also I've seen some that were not so appealing.

One place i don't like them is on thier breasts, not sure why, but its just don't seem right.

The best tattoo I ever seen on a woman was a full back piece. Very impressive.

Bottom line, I have tattoos, why can't they?

"...that getting a tattoo involves pain, and therefore isn't "feminine". "

Giving birth doesn't involve pain? I'd like to see the guy who told you that try giving birth!

Oh and I have a tattoo..........men love it!~
