Prostitutes are people with feeling too and maybe are looking for friendship and nothing more. They should be up front and honest with that

I've only read about 50 POF profiles thus far, and 3 of those clearly appear to be hookers, IMEO. Yeah, no big shock though, that's just the web for ya. Maybe CL is making it harder for them to advertise, following that recent lawsuit, so they're migrating to POF and other similar sites in droves now?
That's the main concern here, I would imagine. POF might be vulnerable to a lawsuit, for allegedly *allowing* illegal activity on their site. When I say "allow", of course I do not mean *condone* or *encourage* or *promote* etc. I simply mean a few retarded law enforcement individuals might choose to interpret POF's lack of vigilant investigation and removal of such accounts, as being a form of permissiveness, then go find themselves an even more retarded lawyer to sue POF over it. When I say "retarded" I mean; freakin' desperate to be in the media spotlight. Sound absurd? It's not. Just look what happened at CL over their 'casual encounters' section.
Personally, I support the legalization of prostitution, and if that ever happens and POF wants to allow them to pimp themselves here, then fine... so long as they check the *I'm seeking a male/female for sex in exchange for cash* box on their profile. Of course, I'd need a 'hooker filter' as well, since I don't care to waste my valuable time clicking on their sleazy profiles.
So in conclusion, I'd prefer not to see POF overrun by this kind of trash, nor be shut down altogether, due to costly legal defense fees. | |

I'm w/cowboy on this one. I've been here for a while and have only seen ONE profile that I might consider to be of the propositional/professional nature. I have to seriously question the judgment of the guy who said he found 3 in 50 profiles.  | |

Where in the world do you live that there is such a high concentration... I have been on this site off and on for over 2 years and I haven't seen anything like that yet. Sorry I am not buying this.
You are also talk about 3 out of 50,this site has millions of people world wide on it. This site is free there are rules and I know if there is someone that breaks the rules etc.. eventually they are deleted. You as the user are also responsible for who you make contact with or who you allow to contact you. We are adults on this site. To even thinly suggest that this site is open to lawsuits because somebody is trying to scam or prostitute themselves on here IMO is plain silly... If you see someone that is a selling themselves etc. Then by all means report it. I would also advise to be a bit careful unless they are blatently selling in their profile and you haven't had contact with them then it is your opinion and nothing more. Report them for their photos if they are breaking the rules...
You mention CL... well that site has been plagued since day one with scammers, at the very least. I think instead of people blaming the sites, they should start taking some of the responsiblity of using the brain God gave them...
I don't care to waste my valuable time clicking on their sleazy profiles.
No one is forcing you to click on any profile. Define your search engine to filter out anything you don't want. Sleazy profiles is IMO a very subjective term doesn't it come to the eye of the beholder. | |

The only other time I look at profiles is if a photo catches my eye when the thumbnail pics are on the top of the screen. If I'm not signed in to the forums these pics are from anywhere in the world.
Of the few profiles I've ever clicked on (say around 50) I've seen at least 2 obvious hookers trolling for Johns. Mind you their pics probably caught my eye and I had to investigate coz they were just so darn obvious. Never thought to report them before.
You guys that don't see the prostitution pics jumping out at you probably have cleaner more innocent minds than mine and your eyes weren't attracted to the smut immediately... as mine were.
Also there is a difference between gold diggers and prostitutes.
Possibly a legal difference from the point of view of PoF management... but not a moral one. Both GDs and pros get ahead (excuse the pun) in life in much the same way. Perhaps GDs have just the one John though, rather than a whole lot of clients. I don't see much difference in either their mode of operation or outcome though. Both types are going to be spending a lot of time on their backs or their kneecaps to earn their keep.

I've seen some rather... ummm... racy profiles, profiles that were clearly meant to catch a man's attention, but I've never seen any mention of cash or credit.
Perhaps some were "working girls" but there are also people who believe in free love.

I wish I'd saved the profiles I've seen to my faves list now, although then they'd probably start trying to do business with me. 
The OP asked are the pros openly welcome to advertise here? And the answer is a resounding no.
However there'sobviously no rule against 'marketing one's goods', in a sexual sense, in one's profile? If you've got it flaunt it... or something. | |
