| Cramps leg, muscle spasams what are they is it a circulation .........well Posted: 11/27/2005 4:40:49 PM | | Well byrd,im not a md and you should see one if you are a diabetic or have a cardiac history.IT could be several things,if you exercise a thing that can happen is a buildup of wastes called lactic acid, muscles can become sore and spasm etc.but you should be checked out.keep note so your md will have details on where it occurs how long and what you were doing at the time of these symptoms.as well tell them what you do to help with the discomfort.good luck. | |

Eat Bananas and take supplements see if that helps - if not have your circulation checked but most often than not it's POTASSIUM deficiency.

| Cramps leg, muscle spasams what are they is it a circulation Posted: 11/30/2005 11:30:20 AM | I also get cramps in my back. I can now tell when one is comming so I promptly take a muscle relaxant. Those are like charlie horses that pull from the shoulder, pull from the hip and meet in the middle. On one side, the left. The reason is an old injury. The body seems to remember things.
The bananas help too, true. But don't do as my granddaughter did and eat 3 in one sitting. You'll have another kind of cramp!

| Cramps leg, muscle spasams what are they is it a circulation Posted: 11/30/2005 3:39:33 PM | | I must agree with a couple other posters that a potassium deficiency is most often the culprit. You can pick up a supplement at any health food store. My father used to suffer from chronic painful leg cramps until a doctor suggested potassium supplements and they went away. Also, simple chronic dehydration can cause cramps. If I haven't paid close enough attention to my hydration my legs will sometimes cramp after a long grueling heavy leg workout, but, if I'm careful to hydrate properly, I'm generally okay. | |

I also had bad back spasms in my back following a bad motorcycle accident for years. Docotrs were quick to give meds but a good old fashion Google search gave me a great tip. Tight hamstring muscles cause back problems. No lie. I started doing some morning stretching exercises for my neck lower, back and hamstrings and it helped immensely.

| Cramps leg, muscle spasams what are they is it a circulation Posted: 12/28/2005 10:23:36 AM | | Byrd, i've come across a few of your posts. I get muscles spasms from the back of my neck, down my arms to my hands, and if they're extremely bad they can go down the trunk of my body to my legs and feet. I have joint probs as a result, mostly in the back of my neck and in my left knee, but now in my elbows and wrists and fingers too. My spasms are due to seizures; you answered my post in discussion on epilepsy. Epilepsy meds might help. If its a circulation problem you might try Ginseng. | |

| Cramps leg, muscle spasams what are they is it a circulation Posted: 12/31/2005 11:19:07 PM | doctor first, then maybe not an answer to your question but some things to consider yes water is good, hydration is important, but too much water as alluded to by the mention above of electolyte balance can be as dangerous as not getting enough, two gallons a day is probably something your physician should be aware of (even marathon runners have died from drinking too much water), you may need 2 gallons but? check with doc before changing ANYTHING considering the portions of your medical history, including diabetes and nerve damage and your recent bout with the cold/flu, which likely included, meds, antibiotics and coughing, you may have pulled some muscles as another thought, do a search for restless leg syndrome and you may find something of use but reality check dr first, opinions last (everybody including me, may be wrong about you)
your personal physician with all the pieces of your puzzle in front of him/her is the best place to get advice, you can always print out the replies you get in the forum and carry them to your dr and ask if any of the suggestions might help or hell e-mail him or whoever you recently saw for your repiratory infection with specific concerns wish you a happy and healthy new year

| Cramps leg, muscle spasams what are they is it a circulation Posted: 1/1/2006 4:02:54 PM | Bryd
are you talking about charley horses in the middle of the night. I used to get them and my doc said it was due to low potassium levels. Keep a bottle of tonic water (without the GIN) by your bed and drink some when you have one or feel one coming on. You may want to eat potatos (not in the form of chips!!!) and high potassium fruits for awhile, untill they stop. Damn Byrd I have to be so explicit with directions for you Cheers, Smoochie
