| Bird Flu on the loose! ...run...panic...cue screaming.... Posted: 12/4/2005 9:22:58 PM | | I personal think alot of the new stuff that pops up started in someones lab. But what do I know. We just going to have to deal with it like everything else. Thats the way it goes, and noone knows where it came from, and everyone stands around guessing. It happens, it would seam. Got to say it sucks though, majorly. | |

remember the panics over SIDs that still only killed a few hundred

This could turn out to be bad, but at present is only fatal if you are unfit or already weakened by age, existing medical condition etc
The panic over this possible deadly flu could end up killing more people than the flu itself?? .. .

| Bird Flu on the loose! ...run...panic...cue screaming.... Posted: 12/8/2005 7:20:50 AM | Hi,
Since the late 1800's, records have been kept of death rates per 100,000 by months. In that over 100 years death rates have varied by the month. The flu season is usually considered as from about Nov to about April. The only thing that has caused a great increase in deaths for a given month is a severe flu epidemic. Yes, flu often kills the very old, the very young and those in poor health when they contract the flu. The flu of 1918 killed millions world wide and the Hong Kong flu some 20 to 30 years ago was the same or nearly identical strain as the 1918 flu virus.
Avian flu is already a killer of people with advanced HIV-AIDS and perhaps some with compromised immune systems from some other reason. There was a TV program that showed that some people developed or had immunity from the black death that killed nearly 1/3 fthe population of Europe. This immunity seems to make people immune to AIDS. Perhaps some people will be immune to this new avian flu even if a pandemic occurs. Time will tell.
Peace,
Mack | |

Not true the Pandemic of 1918-19 killed upto 100 million peoiple in 18 months and targeted mostly those in the prime of life 20-40 years old. That flue can neve rever hit again, We all carry an imunity to it pased down from our great and great-great grandmothers.
