i'm under the impression that average build for a woman means: height and weight proportionate, example: ( 5'-4" woman should weight about 115 to 125 lbs.) , military standards, etc... it seems that woman in america think overweight means average build(5'-4" equals 160 lbs).

any comments?

its been warped and forced into our heads by the media, how we SHOULD look
its all proportianate
I'm 5"10", 240lbs
I'm rather muscular, but by no means "buff", so I just put "average"

You know I always wonder what guys are expecting when you put in average build....that is such a good topic!!!!
I always think...Hmmmm....I have friends bigger than me ...I have friends smaller than me...I must be average...LOL.. It's all relative!!
But seriously...just avoid the whole mystery of what people think and post a pic...preferably an up to date one...then you know..."what you see is what you get!!!"

Hmm, how about a head full of hair; semi hairy; or totally bald??? What's lurking under these caps gentleman? Any comments for hair standards here?

We can set up all sorts of standards (Health insurance charts; fashion industry chart; or even your local moving company if you need a large scale) for weight. You can't lump people into one category. It's insane to judge a person, totally by their weight. Their height; bone structure; age;, etc. all come into play.

Now, you can see someone who looks "fashionably" thin and they may be so totally unhealthy (high blood pressure; high cholesterol) or someone who is 30 pounds overweight (by Health insurance standards), and they are in all sorts of marathons, healthy BP, etc.. There are times I do get a little envious of skinny/thin women, but way too many of the "fashionably" thin women I know have grief with arthritis, high cholesterol, etc.. Here I am a little chunky butt, and my joints don't squeak, I climb stairs without the huffing and puffing; and ride my bike 20+ miles in one day! Oh, and for hiking, let's do the Grand Canyon, I do prefer the south rim. That's hiking down and hiking back up in no less than a day & half...

Can't judge a book by its cover.

I agree with you, zdive65, but we're at the point, in the US at least, where being overweight IS the average!

You know we all are not miss canada or mr universe in builds'' lol.But there are ranges for weights and heights that each one varies,as each persons body wt and bone structure.
Myself im 5 4'' and goe between 136-142 lbs,i say im average i guess'',but according to what you said im overweight by 10-12 lbs??? It is no wonder we have people freaked about their body image. It depends i guess to what you are looking for?????.

I put "average" because the selection for "curvaceous bombshell" doesn't appear to be working.

Medium build, I don't blow away in the wind but I never had trouble with an airplane seat belt. I exercise in moderation, but I love cheese.

See? Average.

Well, let's see I'm 5' 8 1/2" and 212 Lbs.
To many, I might be considered average.
I would consider myself to have a few extra pounds.
Comes down to opinion I guess.

Well theres no selection for "stud muffin" so I guess I just have to go with athletic

Most of my pals describe me as muscular...but they havent seen the inside of a gym in the last decade....so I'll just go with athletic...

can't say for the women but I know growing up docs. would say for my height based on the chart I should be about 180 lbs. yeah okay.. they don't take frame size and such into account.

Hrm, I think it depends. I put average build, but genetically I'm all T&A. The descriptions are limited. While I do work out 5 times a week, I don't think I'm primarily athletic, but on the other hand, I don't consider myself overweight at all either, so I settled for "average".

I wouldn't go by the medical standards either...they are under arguement right now and are being changed. Take the standard and add 20 pounds and you are still (now) considered to be healthy and attractive.

I don't know, maybe if you have to shop in a plus-sized store, you should say you are overweight, but average encompasses a lot.

What you are seeing there is the elite of our society in respect to being fit etc - Australia is second in the world in obesity rates only to America also you are talking about Australia 16 years ago

Now ponder this we are second in obesity with a population of only 20 million where as USA is first with a population of what 400 million --- do the numbers and see aparantly 2.2 out of 3 people in Australia is obese.

There are many sports centres and gyms where i live - in fact in my city is the Australian Institute of Sport - the training facilty for our olympians - but thats a tiny ammount the rest are way obese and many of them are under 30 , objectively its younger women who are getting larger - they have very sedantry lifestyles that revolve around drinking partying and eating bad food hence they become obese wear tight clothes and the fat rolls spill out everywhere.

The males are becomming the same - Australia used to be a country where kids were sports mad - winter and summer school/after school - since about 1995 with the use of home computers etc and playstation etc - kids dont play sport anymore here rather they sit in front of a monitor playing ea sports on Playstation

Australia is going through a crisis now with obesity rates.

So what's the best description? A swim suit photo in every listing?
I agree that the term "a few exrta pounds" should mean less than 10, not multiples of ten!

I weigh in at 174 lbs on a 5' 10" frame, hit the gym regularly and in my mind I could lose "a few extra",
like about 5.....
And if you want a real shock, we could try being scientific and use a Body Mass Index ( BMI ) ; the flaw with this objective way of determining whether of not you are fat is that if you are medium to well developed or better in terms of muscles...the reading scale will list you as "obese".
Those BMI indexes are designed for unmuscular people.
So, maybe the real guide for these descriptions should be based on bathing suit appearance scale
1) looks great
2) passable
3) non-bikini / thong material
4) one piece only

I was going to add "whale on the beach" but I don't want to offend any ceteceans

Geo....gimme a break, only a man would think of that
k, so does that mean men will have the preferance of

1) boxers
2) briefs
3) speedos
4)beer belly overhang

Consider myself average at 5'7" and 135 lbs on a not too tiny frame but not quite medium either?? and that's after having 9 kids. recently been told I'm too skinny lol it all depends on ones personal opinion.

9 kids..........wow...........
no matter what anybody comes up with; it won't work for everybody;especially when people have a different perception of what they look like........a guy that most people think is muscular; might himself think he's only athletic. example??? buff. I've met more than one guy who list themselmes as muscular.........???? but then; i've been in sports most of my life; so my perception is different i guess.

I picked average because there was no "shaped like a bowling pin" option. No boobs all butt and very tall, so what should I have put?
