A little snow (scoff)Page 1 of 1
There is currently a snow storm in my area. It seems to have shut down the entire town. Indeed, for just the second time since I started my current job a couple of years back, they are shutting down for the day.

And yet, when I look out the front window, I can see almost all the way across the road. I think I'll go outside and frolic in the street, just to show them what wusses they are.

I wonder if it is a part of the blizzard we are in the middle of. I'm in northern NS. I still had work if I could have gotten to town this morning. I was without power for about 5 hours. It was useless to shovel too.

We got a foot of snow dumped on us about a week and a half ago. Then again, I live in a place that is renowned for this stuff so it's no surprise nothing changed because of some snow. However, if you want the definition of "weather wusses" check out Toronto a few years back. They called in the army to help them clear the snow.

It's been about 15 years since my city had such a heavy snowfall that it shut us down, but we get a good share every year, it seems. This year we're far below average.

What amuses me regarding Gotapulse's "weather wusses" remark is when places like Northern Florida or Georgia get half an inch of snow, and people are panicking, multiple car accidents are occuring, and it gets Network News coverage. I just watch those stories and snicker quietly to myself.

^lol...I know...I inwardly snicker about it as well. On reflection though I have to give them some credit here. Those places don't tend to have any snow clearing equipment, few people have any experience in winter driving, and essentially they are completely unprepared for it because of all the things they have to worry about, snow doesn't tend to be one of them. Sure, I kinda get smug about it anyway but in truth if you took away the things we use to deal with it I'm not sure we'd still be light years ahead of them in terms of the ability to deal with this sort of thing. I cited Toronto because if anybody should be able to deal with a little snow, it's Toronto.
Now, when it comes to just plain old cold weather, that's one I don't give the benefit of the doubt for. My uncle lives in Houston and tells me that when it goes below zero degrees (sorry, that's celsius, the point where water becomes ice) the place pretty much shuts down. I would think that a couple of sweaters would do the trick since I'm pretty sure they sell those in Houston as well.
