I once told a friend (when I was 42 and he was 54) a saying that I had heard:

The 40s is the old age of youth, the 50s is the youth of old age.

He didn't think it was funny.

Now, I'm 51...he's right...it's not funny

My brother once said something like:

In your teens and twenties you worry what other people think about you
In your thirties and forties you stop worrying about what other people think about you
In your fifties and over you realise they were never thinking about you in the first place

tjrogelio - I laughed at your post.

Sadly there was much truth contained therein!

I lost 90 pounds at 40. At 41 in my second softball game in 6 or 7 years I hit two out and a Texas leauger over a poor girls head in right field. The rotator cuff doesn't let me throw like I could, but the attitude seizes upon the strenghts still there.

Regrets are human, but unless acted upon certainly counterproductive.

OMG.....I am over 40 and have never felt better.....you have got to be kidding me....lol....I see some on here that are in their 30's and I think they are over 50.....and some over 50 that I think are in their 30's......just genetics....conditioning....attitude and a good outlook on life.....

Go for the fun and enjoyment....let it happen....no matter your age....

Just my opinion.....

I'm 42 and would never wish to be 22 or 32 or whatever. I love 40! There's truth in that life begins at 40. At 40, you finally get it!

I've got a year till I'm 40! Can't wait!
What's my other option really :) As I am about to turn 39,(less than a month now) it got me thinking about the big 40 and what that meant for my life.
And I realized that meant that I have AT LEAST (crossing my fenders that I am still walking the earth tomorrow) another 40 years left. Holy crap! the things I can do with another 40 years!
My grandmother learned to play the drums at 92. I plan on being just like her!

A good attitude about it will take you a long way.

If life begins at 40, then I had an interesting 39 years before that in the womb :-)

When it is more likely that you are closer to the date of your death, than the date of your birth, you are old.

Oh, thank you very much for bringing someone's wisdom to my attention.
For me, there was only threshold reaching 40. It is definitely more refined era

Well, I must agree, being 40 is superb. I am certainly the happiest and most comfortable in life that I have ever been. Recently, in Costa Rica, I met a couple in their 70s who said even that though they still felt young mentally, their bodies were betraying them phyisically. The told me: "You are in the prime of your life - enjoy it before you get old like us". It made me feel very young.

"YOU ARE IN THE PRIME OF YOUR LIFE

I do believe that is 100% true and because mind is always step ahead of body, to enjoy and make most of every day ~ hour ~ minute, live life to the full...it does make one feel very young.

What a priceless piece of information! My Dad is almost 75. We had a very frank discussion about life recently, and I wanted his advice about an ambitious project that I was considering. His advice was basically "Do it now while you're young. (I'm almost 47) I could have done thus and so when I was in my 40's. I didn't want to take the risk and now I regret it."

So I'll take the old folk's advice. Start enjoying the rest of my life, and taking bigger risks while I'm still "young".

It bothered me turning 40 until I actually did. I'd rather be 45 than 35, I like where I am now!

I would tend to disagree about life coming actually to a halt at 41-42, as being in that bracket of age, its how you take care of yourself, how you present yourself, your as old as you feel, and your outlook on your age is important to how you are percieved by others. If you set your goals as at say 45 your sex life is over it will tend to lack, but if your thoughts are of going strong to say 70 years old, well then 45 years old aint any thought of a problem of lacking in sexual actions. Take care of yourself and look how other cultures look at age and things change. You shouldnt convince yourself its over just by others lack of drive for themselves, let them get old. Actually sex is more intimate after 40. Tormaigh

I can remember that it was much more difficult turning 30 than turning 40.
