I don't know how many people here are big into the modified car world or racing but I found out something tonight that has me rather pissed off... I don't street race personaly, I keep my foot to the floor at the track so hold back on the flaming here.. Cops are using hear say evidence and getting plate numbers for people who are suspected for street racing.. I have a couple of friends now who have been hassled a number of times for no apperent reason because of this... I know the guys very well and I know they don't street race or even drive agressive around town... Both of them found out tonight after speeking with an officer that they have both been reported as suspected street racers at one point in time.. What gives the police the right to do this kind of stuff?? This is starting push the limits of a persons freedom... Indirectly these days through sheer hassle we are no long able to freely express our selves by modifieing our cars... its BULL SHIT! and really pissing me off....

It's not like the old days where we used to have set places to drag. We kept things to ourselves and it was a pretty tight knit group of racers.
Now a days the younger crowd doesn't give a shit, they race down the middle of town and have no respect for anyone. People get killed and you guys walk away with nothing.
Glad to hear that you keep your personal racing off the streets.

A lot of it is complaints from other drivers.

True, not all modified cars street race but here again is a case of everyone getting painted with the same brush.

IF you were to, unknowingly, cut off another driver, OR it may have made the other driver THINK you cut them off they might have reported you for aggressive or dangerous driving. The driver might have even reported your friend's plate as a possible drunk driver
SO
now your friends plate and vehicle are flagged and watched for.

Again, not fair but some people go by looks... happens with cars and it happens with fashion...
see a young guy, hat on sideways and baggies down low on the hips and to some that means one thing... to someone else it means something else... to the guy with the hat and pants it's how he likes to dress and nothing else.

It 's unfortunate but some people take what they see as fact and don't give anyone a chance...

Street Racing was big 2001, 2002, 2003 in Langley... But as usual the police get eveything mixed up they grouped midnight drag racers with daytime point to point racers... The midnight drag racers were midnight till 3AM deserted roads small groups on roads with no traffic in Langley... Point to point racers were for money and it was a race from this location to that location first one there wins during rush hour on busy streets with pedastrians... Thus th police generalized racing as one group and the midnight racers were targeted as they gathered... Just my $0.02 as I am an ex street racer...

I under stand how it happens and why it happens.. but since when did we loose the right to be inocent untill proven guilty and since when is hear say evidence hard enough evidence to be proven guilty...

Reality sucks... don't it...

It doesn't prove any one guilty but does make someone suspicious.
Guess they'd be happy if we all drove old pick ups and rusted out imports.

Work with the cops, turn it in to a positive thing. Invite them to a club meeting, let them see what you do. Trust me on this it works! We did it when we were dragging and the cops respected us for what we were all about.

Haha that reminds me the funniest shit a cop ever told me when he pulled me over was "I don't give a rats ass if the racers smash there cars and kill themselfs were are just here to protect the bystanders" aka 70% were under age drunk teenagers, hell us racers didn't want them there in the first place

Hear hear Biz...

If the car owners get their backs up and say "screw you... we're innocent" nobody wins...
show them you are just great people who love great cars...

I used to tour a customized show van and drove to truck shows across Canada and the western States... know how many local cops pulled me over... and it wasn't to admire the handiwork. They figured I had to up to something or have drugs or young women stowed in the back... well... um...

BUT the point is, I gave 'em a tour and left them with a colour promo photo and they waved me on my way.

Innocent... until proven guilty
but if I had acted guilty or argued the point things might have been different.
That was almost 30 years ago now...
and we thought times had changed...

As a racer myself, in both SCCA and HSR I do not have a problem with people being "flagged". If you are doing nothing wrong what are you worried about?
How many innocent people have been killed by street racing?
If you "street race" you are an idiot and a moron, you deserve the worst punishment you can get! Why because driving a car down public streets at high speed is as smart as shooting a gun down the same street.
And don't give me any of this "we are great drivers" crap, if you were you would be on the race track proving yourselves.
I have my "super liscence" do any of you street racers?
If you do, I hope its revoked for street racing, its irresponsible and dangerous.

Sorry about the friends, but if they don't do anything wrong, why are they worried?

The cops showed up at my door 3 months ago because my psycho ex had reported me for being a street racer on a certain Fri night. Turns out the joke was on him since my car had been in the shop for the past week waiting on a part to be fixed, and I had the autobody receipt to prove when I dropped off the car. I got a great apology from the cops and the promise that they'd be visiting the ex to discuss "filing a false police report" and ""mischief". She who laughs last laughs best, you doofus

As stated already, try turning it into a positive. Cops do take notes so once their convinced they wont waste time on innocent people. Just try and be patient and remember how serious a problem street racing is and because how it does affect innocent people it may even effect you or I someday. They have to look somewhere to find the real street racers before these races happen. My point is don't take it personally its just part of a necessary effort.

^^^ louis cyfer... You would have to live in BC to understand we have 2 Drag strips and 0 tracks/road courses both of the strips are a fair distance away so either you have to use 1/2 a tank of gas to drive to them or 1/2 a tank of gas for the tow vehicle... You don't require a "super liscence" to street race myself I have taken and advanced driviers class as well as a road racing class... You have already done the same as the police mixing the point to point racers with the drag racers... That's nice that you are in SCCA and HSR but HELLO this is BC we have 2 that right 2 liscenced Drag Strips in the whole province you cannot compare Ontatio to BC or and other province... I would like to point out that my Grandfather and my Father have street raced in there youth it has been around since the 30's... Hell they street race right infront ot the govenment buildings in Russia for christ sake... Also I don't race or even drive hard in the middle of the afternoon in traffic with the public most street racing is done by moonlight on empty roads in the rural areas the only "public" there is are the spectators which are behind the cars... Sorry for the rant but it irks me how narrow minded some can be...

I have had my share of 'street racing' and loved it. But it was always done with a sense to safety.

I mean certain stop-lite to stop-lite challenges or quarter mile on a quiet highway, out in the boonies

And nothing annoys me more than getting a ticket for 20 mph over the limit on a Sunday morning, no one on the highway and it is a long boring road.

Common sense prevails.

but today, some HOTDOG in a BMW raced up the right merging lane to overcome five vehicles, then pulled in and slammed on the brakes to meld. Passing on the right is AGAINST the law moron.

street racers should instantly have their cars confiscated, and face long jail times.

sure...i used to race a little at night...but after that guy got mowed down on Granville, never again.

sorry...but it seems to be people with more money than brains are the ones modding their cars for the purpose of street racing...and those people shouldn't have a license anyway.

Dr Stang............... Washington state has more than 5 race tracks, they are not that far away!
Also try renting an airstrip like chilliwacks, they do rent them you know, and organize races there.
If its done by moonlite on empty roads, how come INNOCENT people have been killed???there

is are the spectators which are behind the cars

so you dont mind killing a spectator?
Im sure you are all great drivers, and NEVER have accidents or lose control of your cars.....you must be better than Shumacher or Gordon or Andretti...as they do lose control and crash....but then again you know everything and I am "narrow minded"...
As for a "super liscence" if you even knew what it was, is about responsibility, something it appears you do not understand!
I lived in BC by the way, and raced in Washington State...

Wanna street race fine! But who is the narrow minded one?

ya the times have changed
Personally i ahve always fealt this was due to a change in attitude and increase in population density

there used to be places (back in kelowna-sunripe strip) where you could do a lil road racing with minimal risk but the combination of more people and worse drivers who don't know their cars has made it so the only place to race is the track, there are alotof them around and people gotta learn where to run em. Populations have went up and there are more peopel driving around at even the most obscure times.

I think all of us rodders agree that it has become excedingly difficult to really race anymore. the new cars are so complicated that modifying them requires specialised tools and upgrades. a microchip can add 80 hp...

So we have alot of guys who have never turned a wrench who jump in their 80k car that the folks bought them this week and go out to race.

The modern cars have great power numbers and improved safety, however, people tend to have this faith that the technology will save them and others...well it won't.

A microchip can not replace common sense and a respect of the vehicle. When you work ona car alot you really think twice before doign something stupid cause you know how much work it is to fix it and how much you have invested in it.

Yes Washington state does have many but unless you are an Amateur Racer or do it for a Pro you are not going to spend 1/2 a day (6 hours there 6 hours back) driving to the track nor get your super liscence... I have participated and attended thousands of events 0 Deaths 0 Injuries if the spectators become to many or they are drunk, high, or under age the serious racers move on to a new more secluded location... There is a difference between responsible street racers and those watching that are drunk or high then hop into there parents car and blindly race through a crowded street... what I ment by narrow minded as those that do not understand street racing just see it as what they see on TV and most of that is a skewed version of it all I am saying... As for fines etc. there is already heft fines and suspensions or termanations/bans from driving and I do believe one should be responsible for those they kill or injure while driving but it is not just the street racers that kill the public while driving there is drunk drivers and those who talk on cell phones or watch a DVD while driving... When I drive I focus on driving if I am in a conversation I don't care how rude it may seem I will not look at them and what they are saying is a 2nd thought to the main task that is driving a motor vehicle... The point is you have to awake and alert not tired, drunk, or high to operate a motor vehilce wether is be driving to the corner store to get a laof of bread or drag racing down a deserted moonlit road of doing 300+ KM/H like Shumacher or Gordon or Andretti you must focus... That is just my $0.02 and last scomment on this subject...

This topic wasn't created to pinpoint anyone for street racing or state that people who do should face harsh fines... Thats not what I was trying to get at... If you read what I had to say you'd understand that a LOT of people these days are getting tagged for street racing just for having a modified car... I have watching police take down licence plate numbers of cars as they have left from mission raceway after the street leagle races... This is what I find to be bull shit! When you get that tag on your record cops are using it as away to pull you over with very vaige reason just to hassle and check up on the person.. A lot of people are getting hassled for vaige reasons... Cops need to educate them selves... I had a friend get a ticket for not having a rear bumper skin on his car because he was doing work on it.. If you look up the motor vehical act there is no law against driving around with no bumber skin, so long as the main bumper support that is bolted to the body of the car is still present and intact...
