Why do people need to debate in forums? Why don't they just shut up and do something?

I see this question being asked in the forums lately.

I have my reasons; mostly having to do with reconciling my own thoughts about the way things should be to reality and the way others feel about them and testing my own and others sense of rationality and perspective.

Of course, many others think I'm full of myself and disagree deeply with what I'm putting out there. I guess it's my own sense of pride to some extent that wants to make sure my views are connected to others in some way and that they can withstand an assault by others who think differently...

What are your reasons for debating current events?

a) I try to practise my English. I have learnt a lot of new words! (Like "faggot", "hatemonger"... or whatever the last one was - near enough, anyway...)

b) I like to hear other people's reasoning.

c) I am claryfying my own thinking via b)...

(d) I need exuces to avoid household tasks :p)

We live in the global village, and the voices of all need to be heard. Unfortunately, not all voices are heard. Those of us on the net, for example, have an advantage over a whole lot of humans, in that we can make our presence known.

A truly wise man once said this: "The shining spark of truth only comes forth after the clashing of differing opinions."

We may not necessarily be right in our views, but our collective views do matter, and collective views are made up of individual viewpoints. I see humanity as being one family.
I like to think that occasionally I get to remind that family of its oneness.

Igotoosu :) But people are repeating them so often so they must be a sort of standard language. There is some thing wrong with our school system, you know, they teach us some kind of formal English, and then we have huge problems in understanding when people are trying to communicate with us :( Another nice word, just lately launched is bushsh*t :)

Igotoosu, I think I have seen those as well :p Need to write them up!

You see why these forums are good!!! People learn to communicate with one another :D

- Seriously, I am pretty sure that everybody, even those who are swimming very hard against the stream, will get some new perpectives reading the conversations. It does not mean we need to change our opinions about the issues but maybe we learn to give our reasons for our opinions in better way.

Yes I have disagreed with you elwood but you have every right to say how ya feel and post on the forums. Last I checked thats what its for specially under the current events section.
Those who complain about debates probably feel left out since they have nothing to contribute. Or maybe thats how they want to spend there time on the forums, complaining lol.

I like to let people know that I'm extremely pissed with the Federal Liberal Party of Canada, (unfortunately our government at the moment ) flushing my money down the toilet dollars on degenerate policies to buy votes.I also want people to know what is going on in the middle-east so they will support the imposition of democratic governments with a multiparty system and a free press, because the leftist surrender monkey solution seems to be to kiss their asses until the Islamonazi lunatics waste us with a nuke.

I take action on my beliefs...
Posted: 12/31/2004 7:02:46 AM
My posts on forums like this are not just the rantings of an arm chair critic. They are based on my personal values and experiences and I strongly believe in them. I stand behind every word I write and my actions offline support any convictions I post on a forum.

I have traveled to foreign countries to help with relief efforts. I have worked with inner-city children as a big brother and headed up more programs than I can count to help provide kids like this with food, clothes, a happy Christmas and address other areas. I've served my Country for 6 years in the Marines and have a deep love for America and all we stand for.

While some people prefer to just spew rants and blindly attack, I prefer to live my life by the same convictions that I write about here and on other message boards/forums by taking direct action and being personally involved with the issues I am passionate about.

Some of your beliefs are good to take action on watchman; but that doesn't change the fact that Bush is an incompetent fool, he's gotten us into a war we may not win; that we didn't even have to be involved in and he's stealing money from US taxpayers. he's also ruining the nation's social security program, health care and educations systems.

I take action on my beliefs also: I protest the war, I support troops by contributing to organizations. I also oppose torture, rape and murder of prisoners of war. I also oppose 300 billion dollar weapons programs that don't work and robbing workers pensions to throw money away to wealthy people.

We have every reason to oppose the Bush administration.

HA! Foolish citizens....the first rule of keeping POWER is to allow a certain amount of steam to escape from the pressure cooker...in this case the government has allowed YOU..the users to have a forum to air your views in a relatively harmless manner. IT WORKS! It also allows the gov't to monitor the citizens "moods" and temperment on direct and precise topics....they ARE monitored and some folks who may go a bit TOO FAR often receive unwanted attention from the federalies. So.....yak all you want.....say what you wish, and enjoy the "freedom" of it all!
Happy New year!

The united states is already awash in way too many prescription pharmaceuticals, Don't you think you would serve your country better by enlisting and going to Iraq to shoot anti-democratic insurgents? ( just asking ).

Pharmacist is the number one most understaffed job position in america for 15 years in a row now. the proportion of elderly and sick in the world increase on a daily basis.
I will do my part to cut back overprescription of drugs when i get there.
I was not born to protect my country like a army ant or a worker bee, i am here to live my life to the fullest. I wish to take care of my family and my community how i see fit and i think that an iq of 146 will do alot more good inventing medication and watching over the health of the lady down the street than absorbing shrapnell from an improvised bomb.

I will serve the country, but i will do it on my terms, not those dictated by causes i do not support.

in short, no sir, i do not think i would serve my country better as a soldier in iraq. rather, i will take action on my beliefs.

On Canadian Election Day, I will shut up and do something, go out and vote the Shitberals out of office. Canada will be liberated if everyone else votes the same way.
