| A Bird? Posted: 12/19/2005 3:15:15 PM | I will admit that I am not all convinced of the Holy Trinity concept, but if it is true and all three persons are one, why is the Holy Spirit depicted as a bird? I can relent to the depiction of the Spirit as a small ball of fire, but if anyone has any idea why it is shown as a bird, I would love to hear the reasoning. I may have missed it somewhere in the readings. | |

| A Bird? Posted: 12/19/2005 3:29:52 PM | Matthew 3:16 And Jesus, when he was baptized, went up straightway out of the water: and, lo, the heavens were opened unto him, and he saw the Spirit of God descending like a dove, and lighting upon him:
The verse says like a dove. Could mean gracefull or flying. I dont think the wrighter was saying the spirit of God is a bird.

But all I know about the dove is the it sees only one thing at a time? Pure vision . I could be wrong never having had doves but someone told me that once.

The bird as a sign of a coventant/promise fulfilled?
The bird as a sign of peace between God and man?
The bird as a sign of man's ability to transcend between earth and heaven?
The bird as a messanger?

| A Bird? Posted: 12/19/2005 11:12:16 PM | simple, the Holy Spirit being God, doesn't force or control, because He is love, The Holy Spirit is dove like, I had a dove appear to me once. A supernatural dove that flew faster than my race car, and pulled up along side of me and looked me right in the eye at hight speed. God won't force salvation on anyone, He is gentle as a dove, that is one reason most Christians won't receive the Holy Spirit and speak in tongues and do miracles and heal etc... Because they feel the presence of the Holy Spirit but don't allow Him into their hearts. The name Jonah means dove, that is why the Ninivites repented, because the mercy of God poured out of Jonah, even though he fought against it. He knew from the begining that the true nature of GOD was mercy and kindness, and that Ninivah would repent and God would relent and spare the city even though God did destroy spiritual Ninivah. have a great repentant day, Jimmy
: {speak in tongues} The Holy Spirit decended on the Apostles at pentecost in the form of tongues of fire and wrote the law on the hearts of those that would receive him!!! love:

| A Bird? Posted: 4/4/2008 1:12:10 AM | The symbolism is derived from the story of Noah and the Flood.
When God saw the wickedness that prevailed in the world (Gen. 6:5), He told Noah of His intention to destroy the ancient world by a universal flood. God instructed Noah to build an ark (a large barge) in which he and his family would survive the universal deluge. Noah believed God and "according to all that God commanded him, so he did" (Gen. 6:22).
Symbolically meaningful event IT WAS FOR NOAH WHEN THE dove returned to the ARK with an olive branch in its mouth to signal the end of the flood and the arrival of a new harmony between God and people a olive branch in a dove's beak signaled that the ark's passengers could safely disembark.

| A Bird? Posted: 4/4/2008 7:02:45 AM | i heard from matthew chaper 12 paragraph 3.
'oh how beautiful this lady is that mesmorises my eyes and brings me joyous and lengthy sleeps, the foxy bird i met the other day matthew. if only you were there to see for yourself she was a beauty alright.' says Jesus
'im sure she is a right geezer bird if you liked her jesus.' matthew replies thumping jesus' back in celebration.
So aye the bird is actually a woman and an easy mistake to make through history.

| A Bird? Posted: 4/4/2008 8:55:57 AM | | The Holy Spirit is the bird that made its nest in Christ's crown of thorns during the crucifixion. This is an admittedly liberal interpretation of some obscure passage I may not have actually read. | |

Spirit of God descending like a dove, and lighting upon him
What would that FEEL like? Imagine…
Not, what do you THINK it would feel like.
Ignore for the moment what any chapter or verse would say about it…
But look and feel inward.. What would this FEEL like. See if you can actually feel it..
Just for fun..
