Many of the Canadian people I have met in Florida, are older and they spend there winters here. They have said in casual conversation that they would not live here full time, because they would not give up there health insurance, but they were older and retired,Do younger people in your Country feel that would be a deciding factor. To me the biggest thing would have to be the difference in the weather. What would be your fear in making the move?

But its the fact that there are differences, we have more tollerance here for some things. That being said, if I found a man that I fell in love with from anyother country, I would not let those things keep me from him. And well Canada's not all that bad....winters are cold yes but think of all the snuggling...and dispite some peoples thoughts it doesn't last all year round...we have spring/fall/and summer here too.

Posted: 12/22/2005 6:39:01 AM | I've already done it and needless to say, I kissed the ground I was walking on when I got back to the Canadian border. People in the States think they have the best country but that isn't what I saw...I can't say as I cared much for the people like I do back here at home...of course it's home...so who's to say what that is based in?
If a man really wants to consider a life with me so badly that it hurts, he'll have to make the move to me...not the other way around...Why? Because I have children who don't need to be uprooted and have their lives thrown into chaos for someone I love.
I wouldn't even contemplate having an LD relationship unless he lived here in Canada and we were able to have easy access to each other.
Alas, it was a pipe dream...but hey, it was an adventure nonetheless.
God I love this country.

And would only stay as long as i could with out giving up my citizenship. So, every 6 - 9 mos. i would be taking a break and going home. I would not give up being CANADIAN for anything.
I love to travel, and as one woman mentioned, Europe would be a better choice. Portugal, Italy, Germany even. I love skiing in the Winter time so wouldnt mind Northern Italy or Germany. Can always head south in the winter, and be somewhere else in a couple hours.

Posted: 12/22/2005 8:15:14 AM | Speaking as someone who lived in Canada for 14 years, I'd move back in a second for the right woman. The country is fine, and, while the taxes may be higher, they go to finance thigs like socialized medicine and other useful programs. The American system for taking care of it's citizens is best summed up by the phrase "Tough it out." One that I have found considerable disgusting over the years.

Right now I'm in the middle of figuring out where I want to be and making that move happen. It isn't the US. One thing I learned while making all these decisions is that I am a Canadian and it's where I'm going to live.
Then again, I wouldn't move inside Canada for someone either. It's too much pressure and if things don't work out where does that leave you?

Posted: 12/22/2005 10:07:32 AM | | I have a friend that moved back from Florida to Canada (he was born up there) and he works in the same profession that I do. When he moved up, his NET salary went from $80k in Florida to $35k in Canada... He's living paycheck to paycheck up there and used to have a great life in Florida.. He did it for love because his wife wanted to take care of her elderly parents back in Canada, so they moved back up north..

Everytime I was asked, "where are you from", and I responded with "Edmonton, Canada"...I always got the same response..."Ohhh, that's by Toronto". People in the US tend to think Toronto IS Canada. I had fun with it though. I was there in July and I kept getting the "oh, you must be happy to be here, and leaving that snow back in Canada". My response..."hope my igloo doesn't melt while I'm gone." But yah, I'd move...just to educate them...lol.
