| Picture size Posted: 12/29/2005 2:58:42 PM | | What's the recommended size for posting a picture in your profile? | |
|
| Picture size Posted: 12/29/2005 3:03:20 PM | Not sure about this site but most sites go either 80x80 or 120x120
If I had to guess I'd say 120x120 here.

| Picture size Posted: 12/30/2005 3:17:28 PM | | I thought it resized the image when you upload it to a certain extent.... | |
|
| Picture size Posted: 12/31/2005 2:30:34 AM | | Minimally 200 Pixels at least on one Side to prevent any Upload Issues. |

| Picture size Posted: 11/10/2007 10:59:13 AM | | What about the size as far as memory. Is 4k too large. I've searched for a topic about this but this thread is the closest I've found. | |

| Picture size Posted: 11/10/2007 11:44:01 AM | What about the size as far as memory. Is 4k too large. I've searched for a topic about this but this thread is the closest I've found. Due to different Image Compression Levels, its not really possible to precisely nail down File Size.
A very large but heavily compressed JPG Image around 40 KBs might work, but due to the Site's Recompression Schemes when uploading your Pic, it would likely end up rendered excessively degraded.
| For the usual 'Run of the Mill' compressed JPGs you'll be uploading I wouldn't go much below 50 KBs. For BMPs stay above 120 KBs. |
As a Rule of Thumb do not upload any Images which are less than 100 Pixels on any Side. This is one of the common Reasons User Pics are deleted, when the same Image previously uploaded successfully. To be sure no Pic-Size Issues get into the Way, make sure they are at least 200 Pixels on any Side.
You may also have Problems uploading if ...
| 1. | Your Image is much larger than 3,500 Pixels on any Side. |
| 3. | Your Image exceeds more than 10 Megapixel.

| Picture size Posted: 2/14/2008 12:42:52 PM | I have been trying to upload my pics and it just won't work. What can I do about this and who can I talk to in order to get this done? First of all, make sure the Images you submit meet upload Requirements:
Also, make sure what you upload qualifies as Images:

| Picture size Posted: 4/22/2008 2:27:37 AM | Many people are unsure about preparing their photos. Happily it’s actually an easy process without any real mystery :)
Naturally, if the digital copy of you photo is of poor quality in the first place there's little you can do to improve it (without actual graphics skills).
If you have not one already, get a fully featured image editor. I recommend The GIMP as it is free but has comparable features to professional software like Photoshop. Links for downloading this software can be found at: http://www.gimp.org/
Here is a step-by-step guide for The GIMP (other’s editor have equivalent features and the process will be similar):
To make square selections: 1. Click on the "Rectangle Select Tool" (the first tool on the top left in version 2.4.2) 2. Ensure the "Fixed:" checkbox is checked. 3. Ensure none of the other checkboxes are checked. 4. Ensure Aspect Ratio is selected in the drop down list beside the "Fixed:" checkbox 5. In the input field below the checkbox value should be "1:1"; if not type in 1:1
When happy with the selected area: Select "Image -> Crop to Selection" from the image's menu options.
To scale the image select "Image -> Scale Image" from the image's menu options. In the Scale Image dialog: 1. Ensure "pixels" is select in the first drop down list. 2. Change the value in the "Width:" field to your desired width. If the value in the "Height" field has not changed to match your "Width" value either click on the icon to the right (looks like a chain) or manually edit the "Height" field to match the "Width". 3. In the "Quality" drop down list ensure "Cubic" is selected. 4. Click ok.
To save the image in an appropriate format: I recommend JPEG as it's particular suitable for photos and supported by all image rendering browsers I'm aware of. 1. In the "Name" field type a file name followed by ".jpg", e.g. "myprofilepic.jpg" 2. In the Save as JPEG dialog ensure that the "Quality" slider and ensure the slider is turned up to 100 (unless your image is huge there is no need to apply any compression. JPEG uses a lossy compression scheme, which essential means it throws away data. The more you compress your JPEG the lower the quality of your image). 3. Click save.
