| Hello...Idaho Posted: 2/4/2006 4:14:19 PM | Hello Xtm
Idaho is pretty much an outdoors state, meaning skiing snowboarding snowmobiling hunting fishing etc. BUT! Boise has a pretty good night life going and Twin Falls is starting to develop a music scene of it's own. Lots of pretty scenery and some worthwhile tourist attractions. If you should get to South cebtral idaho. give us a shout and we'll be your guide!

| Hello...Idaho Posted: 3/30/2006 7:14:01 PM | I agree. I love Idaho for all the things you can't do elsewhere. Even a lot of states that have mountains and forests, they are all private, or state or national parks. We've got a lot of land that is just public forest land, so you can do most anything there: hike, bike, motorcycle, quads, snowmobile, etc. I didn't realize we had it so good until I went to some other states where you have to drive a couple hours just to pay someone to let you ride your motorcycle on their dirt track! I can ride my dirtbike out of town (without getting a ticket!) and if it's not a farm field, you can ride on it....for free!
And like rockbilly said, the non-outdoor related stuff is starting to pick up. The Boise area is starting to look like a smaller version of any other metropolitan area with the night life to go with it.

| Hello...Idaho Posted: 5/26/2007 7:31:15 AM | my friend asked me to consider moving to idaho with him in a few years. pennsylvania has started to really suck, what with all the construction, overzealous police departments, illiterate rednecks, development and general disregard for environmental issues.
how does idaho compare in these respects? what is the work outlook there? cost of living? culture?
i can't really find anything online besides tourist-y sites.
i'll appreciate any info.

| Hello...Idaho Posted: 12/17/2007 9:20:02 PM | ^^^^^^^
We don't take too kindly to 'tree huggers' coming here since the three biggest industries here are all about the land. "Tree huggers' tend to lock up the land and people end up unable to feed their families. This has happened all too often here. I couldn't count all the timber mills which have had to close thanks to the tree huggers. Nor the mines closing. Nor the farmers being forced to sell out because they can no longer feed their family.
Our police have a "no tolerance" attitude and we like it. The major cites are growing and construction is booming and we like it. Our 'red necks' are actually more educated about what real life is all about than the main line liberal media and we like it. Our farmers have been FORCED to sell their farms to developers because tree huggers have place so many insane restrictions upon them that they have no choice but to seel out to feed their families.
As for work, try the Idaho Employment department web site. You just might find that we have some major world wide high tech corporations who have chosen our state as their head quarters. We have some of the best hospitals in the greater northwest. Our cost of living is still relatively low and our energy costs are among the lowest in the nation. Culture? Ummmm....we got Basque, Latino, European, ...........you mean THAT kind of culture?
Of course....all this is just ONE Idahoan's opinion.

| Hello...Idaho Posted: 12/25/2007 2:45:45 PM | Just another Idahoan's opinion:
Idaho is a great place to live and others are discovering that and moving here. The Treasure Valley (larger Boise metro area) is growing rapidly and becoming more diverse so we are getting more and more culture every day.
My views are a bit different from hersheyboy's but that is just further evidence of our growing diversity. I think that the loss of many of our Timber Mills was more a result of world markets, lack of investment in modernizing mills, and past overharvest of timberlands. I know less about mining but I suspect that factors more powerful than "tree huggers" were greater contributors to mining occuring elsewhere.
I do completely agree with hersheyboy that this is a great place to live if you like skiing, hiking, biking, hunting, fishing, whitewater, etc. All the best, Alan

| Hello...Idaho Posted: 9/27/2008 8:36:03 PM | I'm originally from the North eastern part of the USA. Found Idaho in 1983, fell in love and here I am. Been back east to visit several times. The only other state I would live in is Tennessee.
Idaho has some wonderful things to do. Usually you are only 30 minutes away from any fun you want to have. And if you live in Boise, my goodness there are always things going on wlithin just a few minutes drive from your home.

Oh, about those ridicules tree huggers, who have ruined the farm land, uh, excuse me, its the developers who have ruined the farmland, duh!! A 4th generation liberal tree hugger, environmentalist, feminist - well you get the idea...so much for the red neck view

| Hello...Idaho Posted: 7/21/2009 8:32:17 PM | | So what would you Idahoians say to someone who got a job offer in a small town in your state? | |

| Hello...Idaho Posted: 7/25/2009 10:02:26 PM | I am thinking of travelling to Courd'alene in the near future....being summer will it be super busy? Are there many things down there to do to keep me occupied besides swimming in the lake, hiking, etc etc...? I will be travelling alone if I do come.
Hopefully the US custom agents at the US/Canada will be nice and friendly if I do come down...then again I hope the Canadian agents will be just as friendly coming home.

| Hello...Idaho Posted: 7/27/2009 11:16:41 AM | Well what do you like, this is North Idaho most like it for the lakes, rivers and woods its kind of a quiet place, we do get alot of people in the summer. Spokane is real close for a little bigger city life, it all depends on what you want. I personally don't go to the lake much, I go to the smaller lakes, or float the river, really mellow and peaceful, and less people but its ok at the lake. I haven't been through the bourder in ages so I have no idea what its like now days, let me know lol!!! | |

| Hello...Idaho Posted: 7/27/2009 11:32:08 AM | As for the red neck thing above, not all of us are rednecks, and although I am not a tree huger I happen to like the forest and Idaho's beauty, my cusin is a rich man because he learned how much money you can make going in clear cutting a huge area but relax in about 100 years we can do it again. I have no problems with logging if its done responasibly, a few of my friends are loggers, as for the mines, I was born and raised in a mining town, and they killed the area, it was one of the ugliest area's around the river flowed like mud, and Idaho is to beautiful to do that too, things are just now starting to grow back, and you can see the bottom of the river now. But like the other dude said I don't think thats what killed these industries, I think the world market did that. I personally wish Idaho wasn't growing but it is so I accept that one request I do have for people moving to Idaho to get away from the hustle and bustle of where ever they are from, please don't try and change it to the place you just left. For the most part our rednecks are nice, and this is from a born and raised in Idaho hippie LOL!!! | |
