| England Football Fans - Your starting XI Posted: 12/30/2005 7:26:45 AM | If the World Cup Started tomorrow and assuming all English players are fit what would your starting eleven be? For the record mine is
Robinson G Neville A Cole Woodgate Terry (C) Parker Gerrard Wright-Phillips Downing Rooney Owen
I know, no Beckham and Lampard but I went for width and balance with a holding midfielder and two wingers so no room I am afraid. Gerrad just edged out Lampard. I went 4-4-2 but would be interested to see some new formations

| England Football Fans - Your starting XI Posted: 12/30/2005 10:00:52 AM | this is what me and my friends think the england team should be, which is a (3.5.2 ) but i dont think sven will pick it. ROBINSON KING CAMPBELL TERRY BECKHAM LAMPARD PARKER GERRARD J.COLE ROONY OWEN now thats what you call a team. that's the winner lads | |
|
| England Football Fans - Your starting XI Posted: 12/30/2005 10:58:12 AM | | Great side but no way has Sven got the nuts to play 3 centre backs. I did ask for YOUR XI though and its probably the best so far in all honesty! | |
|
| England Football Fans - Your starting XI Posted: 12/30/2005 11:05:12 AM | thanks alot. I just think king and parker could feed j.cole and gerrard to help use attack more and take the game to the rest of the world | |
|

| England Football Fans - Your starting XI Posted: 12/30/2005 11:59:26 AM | this is my England team
Robinson A.cole Terry(captain) ferdinand neville J.cole gerrard lampard beckham rooney owen
And on the subs bench james, carragher, wrightphillips, defoe, crouch.
|
| England Football Fans - Your starting XI Posted: 12/30/2005 12:03:59 PM | | Thatll probably be the team and I dont think it will win the World Cup. Best players but Gerrard, Lampard, Beckham are getting in each others way. Another central midfielder (Cole) only exaggerates this. Sorry to bang on but I think you need a holding midfielder and a natural left winger/right winger. That means being brave though and leaving either Gerrard or Lampard out and there is no chance of Sven doing that. | |
|
| |
| England Football Fans - Your starting XI Posted: 12/30/2005 12:24:14 PM | | Only thing I disagree with blocko is no natural width on the left - 3 centre backs means playing "wing-backs" wide who can drop in, Who is your left sided wing-back? Joe Cole? Hmm | |
|
| England Football Fans - Your starting XI Posted: 12/30/2005 1:57:13 PM | sorry foggy i didnt read your team before! I think we should go to germany as sven gorans coaches! With regards to the other posts about no width and having wing backs im not in favour of that system at moment. Its been tried a few times and didnt work.A good 4-4-2 formation is the best solution for now.Regarding the holding midfield role im sure gerrard can do it with lampard getting forward to support rooney and owen.On the left side J.cole,on the right side Beckham,With Beckham taking free kicks and putting in good crosses for the strikers. | |
|
| England Football Fans - Your starting XI Posted: 12/30/2005 2:19:13 PM | Has anybody spotted the fact that Beckham (world class player that he is) no longer gets the crosses in he used to because he is trying to do everybody elses job. I seriously think it would be a blessing in disguise if one of the midfielders got an injury and forced Svens hand!, but he would probably just play Hargreaves. I agree by the way Foggy Gerrard and Lamps can both attack and defend at their clubs but I havent seen much evidence of an understanding at international level | |
|
| England Football Fans - Your starting XI Posted: 12/30/2005 2:34:26 PM | I agree with you about Beckham sometimes trying to do everyones job,if he stuck to his own tasks he might have more time to put those crosses in.I hope he wouldnt play hargreeves also if one of the midfielders got injured! what about trying jenas, dyer, carrick,or smith? Whats everyones opinon about our groups opponents paraguay, trinidad&t,and sweden? | |
|
| England Football Fans - Your starting XI Posted: 12/30/2005 2:38:35 PM | | Im a Newcastle fan so Jenas and Dyer out of the question, trust me I've seen enough of them. Carrick is a possibility he would be in my squad. Never quite worked out what Smithys best position is. As for our competition I wouldnt be surprised if the biggest challenge came from Paraguay, Sweden have a mostly older experienced squad thats coming to its final competition. Trinidad will have a go but we should win all three comfortably in all fairness. | |
|
| England Football Fans - Your starting XI Posted: 12/30/2005 3:25:21 PM | Im a West Ham fan and have watched carrick grow into a fine player.I wasnt very happy when he left us for our rivals Tottenham!Smith could play the holding role like he dose for Man utd nowdays.Im not to worried about our first two games,Paraguay who play very defensive football shouldnt be much of a threat, they get scared if they go past the halfway line!Trinidad will try their best but dont have any world class players,I know trinidads team all play in England but they shouldnt cause any trouble.Dont forget England havent Sweden for nearly 40 years now for some reason and their main threat will be the big striker Ibrahimovic (juventus).I dont know if Henrik Larson is playing now? | |
|
| England Football Fans - Your starting XI Posted: 12/30/2005 6:03:24 PM | If a team has 3 defenders like king, terry and campbell and a holding player like parker, then they shouldn't need 'defensive' wing backs. J cole isn't a left sided wing back, but he's not too similar to Gerrard or Lampard either. Beckham has played as a wing back many times, and Cole is a lot quicker than he is, so if he has to track back he can...But anyway, with more creative players England will keep the ball longer, like Brazil.
We always say that we don't have skillfull players but it's just that we never play them because we have to stick to some stiff formation and way of thinking, that has won us nothing since forever. I don't get it.

| England Football Fans - Your starting XI Posted: 12/31/2005 11:25:49 AM | Breaking news guys....Owen has broken his foot today and could be out for a few months. Were going to have to find a replacement for our England teams i think! Im going to bring in Defoe off the bench and call up Andy Johnson!! | |

| England Football Fans - Your starting XI Posted: 1/3/2006 5:43:54 AM | | Coles not in mine dude. Parker because he is the best (i.e. only decent) "holding" midfielder in the country. I'm a Newcastle fan and can testify that he is playing well in a poor side. I know Lampard, Becham et al are better players but too similiar, they all want to bomb forward. I picked Downing from Middlesbrough on the left - young, talented and left-footed! | |

| England Football Fans - Your starting XI Posted: 1/3/2006 11:03:00 AM | 12c4yself I understand what you mean about Parker,he is a good player but he has only just come back from injury and needs more experience before taking that holding midfield role. I agree with the previous posts about king, when he has played for England he's done a good job in the holding role and dispite him playing for Tottenham(i support west ham) he would get in the squad before Parker in my opinion. | |

| England Football Fans - Your starting XI Posted: 1/3/2006 11:27:21 AM | I think at the moment Edgar Davids the Dutch player is doing that job,but King dose play there when asked to.Normaly he plays at center back. Im off in a minute to Watch a***nal v Man utd on TV!!! I hope theres no ugly incidents in the tunnel again!! | |
|
| England Football Fans - Your starting XI Posted: 1/4/2006 6:14:29 AM | Breaking new again for you Scot Parker fans out there,He has had a operation today and will be out for some time.Poor old Graham Souness he's not having much luck!! | |
|
| England Football Fans - Your starting XI Posted: 1/5/2006 12:19:08 PM | glad this forum got going here are mine, pretty much all the same, sorry for the repeat:
goal: robinson
d: young - terry - king - cole
mid: beckham - lampard - gerrard - cole
strikers: rooney - owen
young rather than neville, though neville will get the start if you've been on the WC forum, you've heard my problems with neville...bloody goon king over ferdinand and campbell, because he can sit in front of the d in that holding role better than either, if england want to push an extra midfielder forward (which they should) i like joe cole wide on the left, though he can go anywhere really. leaving him off isn't really an option, i don't think, considering his current club form rooney can play a little behind owen, with lampard and gerrard overlapping
parker, campbell, crouch, smith and andy johnson on the bench (and green over james as the goal sub)
