If you supposedly sent him some Money first to "Cover Expenses", then he'll transfer Millions of Dollars to your Banking Co-ordinates and splits it with you.
After you wire off your $ 150 or so, you'll never hear from him again.
And old Hoax, 10 years later and still going strong, so it must still work the Miracles of Fraud.

Posted: 1/7/2006 3:22:22 AM | There are certain words that will 'Red Flag' a Profile.
If you stay away from Key-Words often used by Scammers such as "Send Money", "Account", "wire" and "transfer" there is nothing to worry about.
Same goes with a Number of Countries where such Spam originates from, or is the focus of the Scam.
If all this Info was made Public, Mr. Scammer would scheme up other means to circumvent the Triggers, but as it is now, he doesn't know, but for some reason "unbeknowest" to him his profile ends being deleted.
Don't forget, these Filters are not here to harrass abiding POF members, but to protect them from being frauded over. Some accidents happen, but then nothing is absolutely Foolproof.
Even those that come in here crying and whining about their Profiles having been deleted by "Evil" Administration swearing on their Mothers Grave they followed all the rules, often had Spam, indecent Images, Multiple Profiles or something else they ought not be doing, but emphatically profess innocence.
Some of these lame Folks paint a bad Picture of Administration simply because they themselves do not want to, or are not following the Rules. |

Its tough for us average folks to know that stuff you just mentioned. I had no idea about that stuff in those nations. Those places may come up in the news or something and the person will get deleted without knowing why or about anything you mentioned.
And that word "a----nt" is fairly common to use without referring to banks (could be referring to email or part of regular speech "Bush won the election on a----ct of the electoral vote." Tough for us to know what we might get deleted for outside of whats mentioned in the rules.
Spammers are terrible and sneaky people.
If the average person gets deleted, can we simply petition to get it undeleted in case what I mentioned happens?

The term "Account" by itself will not cause an Account to be deleted, but when picked-up with another word(s) to form a specific combination, it points toward Spam/Scam.
If 25 Profiles get deleted to prevent even 1 POF Member from getting taken for some
$ 2,000 Fraud-Hoax Ride, then those accidental Account Deletions would be fully justified, and the Filters would have well served their Purposes.
Nothing is perfect, it will never be, but the Admin continuously makes adjustments and fine-tunes these Filters to minimize inadvertant Profile Deletions without compromising being effective and tough on Spammers/Scammers.
Its a 'Give & Take' Situation.
If the average person gets deleted, can we simply petition to get it undeleted in case what I mentioned happens?
For that, its best to E-Mail the Admin ---> bigfish

Posted: 2/26/2006 9:36:01 PM | have you put the exact same profile back on here again? if so then it may be that there are some numbers separated with "-" (your height) in your profile that will trigger the auto delete....erring on the side of caution, the program will take any series of numbers separated by a dash and assume it's either personal contact numbers or even some kind of bank numbers...change your height to "whooping 5'7 to 5'8 tall" and it may stop the trigger....
and if that's not the problem, then i'm out of ideas....good luck... | |

If I sent a message 2 days after that, will that person receive a notice that someone has attempted to contact them via a response to a message originally sent, or what is the best way to establish that contact?
Message sent on 25th, User Deleted on 24th, I would say no. If you had replied to an existing email and they were deleted, you would get an empty To: field, had you inserted the deleted user's name in the blank field, the system would reply with sent, however, checking the messages sent would show no message to that user. / Moderator

I SENT HIM A CARE PACKAGE THAT COST ME OVER 90.00 OR A LITTLE MORE,I SENT HIM ADULT ITEMS HE IS SECURING OUR COUNTRY AND DONT KNOW WHEN OR IF HE IS COMING HOME THE SAME OR NOT RETURN AT ALL. SO I SPOILED HIM HINT LADIES THATS PART OF HIS NAME.
WELL I LOST 900.00 OF MY INCOME FOR ONE MONTH AND I ASKED HIM TO HELP ME IF POSSIBLE SO I COULD HAVE MONEY TO BUY GAS AND PAY CELL PHONE ALL MY BILLS OF IMPORTANCE IS PAID MY HOUSE NOTE IS 1400 A MONTH.PAID CARNOTE PAID.CONSUMERS WATER ETC PAID. These filters delete profiles that "look" like they are, spammers or scammers.
END OF STORY
At over a million profiles, this is a necessity, as this site is free because it's created, monitored, and maintained by one guy.
Note; pay sites are run by 200+ people, and more often than not, the pay site is the biggest scammer of them all, see: Class action against Yahoo Personals and Match.com for fraud
This is a free site, no revenue is generated by member interaction, hence ....no site fraud.
However, this is the internet, as you have free access to this site, so do the spammers/scammers.
Remember, this site is free because the administration of it is, .......... one guy.
Not 200, 300, 400, etc. people dragging a paycheck from users talking to eachother.
Off-site scams and spam are avoided via the use of auto-filters, sooooo...
If you have contact info in your profile, ie: msn, yahoo, URLs, emaill addies, etc.?
.........buh bye.
If you send bulk mail through POF mail? ..........filtered and capped, .....and noticed BTW.
If you mention Ghana, Nigeria, known spam/scam URLs, etc. in POD mail, ...... buh bye.

...........I doubt it, .....while mistakes happen, the % of deletions that aren't due to auto-filters related to profile text/images and rule violations related to them, or text/images that "look" like a rule violation?

If this is the correct user name other than the one you stated above it looks like the profile was purged for inactivity. I found the aforementioned information under a user search.

Posted: 10/24/2006 12:16:04 PM | If you're going to make it that easy to trip filters, it would be nice if you could at least have some kind of account retrieval process. As it is, I spent time creating my profile, looking around, contacted a few people... all down the drain two days later because one of my emails had a joke in it in which one of the words apparently tripped a filter. No account suspension, no chance to say "hey, I'm real, didn't know about that one, sorry" and have it reactivated. Just poof, gone. Including, I assume, the messages I had sent to people.
I'd try to remember everything I've done, but I don't like the idea of my account vanishing out of the blue again somewhere down the line when there's more at stake, with no chance of recovery. | |
