I am aware that most whites and other non-blacks get highly defensive when it comes to light that the one known as "Jesus" was a black man. They refuse to see one of the greatest spiritual teachers of all time coming from a race that they deem to be inferior! It is also apparent that most people do not even realize that most of the characters in the Bible in the Old Testament were of black African descent. This is because society has been raised to believe that anything of value has to come from whiteness, or if not white, certainly not from anyone black!

There are alot of sources that prove that the original biblical doctrines had come from black African people (the original hebrews). But the people have a hatred for black people that goes beyond human comprehension. So let me ask you "christian" people one honest question.... if you KNEW, 100% that the one you know of as "Jesus Christ" was a black man and that the Israelites whom he descended from were a black African people, would that affect your religious beliefs enough to make you change them? Yes or no?

While I'm not here to answer your question, I am here to say that, as far as I see, Jesus was born from parents who were arabic and thus had to have been of the same skin color as everyone else in the reigon. Though it's impossible to say for certain what his actual skin color is, I'll ask the question with sparda... does it matter?

Thank you Al Sharpton.

While I disagree with your assertion that Jesus was an African, It would not matter at all to me if he was Black/African. Would not change my faith a bit.

Since I'm pagan, not a bit.

And even if I was Christian it wouldn't bother me. I would like to see some of the sites with proof of the color of his skin.

If anyone is a racist, it would be you. You just painted everyone with the same brush...except the black race. Please enlighten me with where you get your facts.

Like everyone else here has said, race is totally irrelevant. And no, I don't think Christ was black. But if he was, that would be just fine with me. Sparda, I'm not sure you'll agree with me here, but we humans were all created equal, regardless of race. My background is primarily white anglo saxon, with a little bit of native Canadian. That's quite different than Christ's bloodline. So what? That doesn't make him any less God, or me any less a child of God.

Also, Sparda, let me ask you this. Jesus was born and raised Jewish. How much of a problem is that for you?

To blueberry and others... you don't seriously think the color of Jesus's skin was the same as say... an english man's do you? Please tell me no. At the very least his skin color was that of the people he gew up with. (ie current day israel.)

Lord Dave I think you are inferring something that no one here has implied. Who said Jesius looked like a northern European?

Since Jesus was a Jewish carpenter, I always assumed that he physically looked like a Jewish guy who did carpentry.

When the hell are we all going to get over petty differences like race, religion, hair colour whatever and get to what really matters, the stuff inside all of us...hearts, souls, minds...

Oh I was only pointing out that Jesus is, traditionally, depicted as someone of european decent. Atleast that's what it seems to me. But what do I know?

Dave, you are correct that many westerners have depicted Christ as being "white", and very European looking, which is obviously inaccurate. I think the fairest assumption, based on his family lineage is that he had a distinctly Middle Eastern look. And chances are his skin was quite dark since he spent nearly all of his time outside, and they didn't have sunblock in those days!

But again, all of us, other than Sparda seem to be in agreement that we could care less what his race was. And if somehow some researcher was able to prove that he was indeed black, that would not make the slightest difference.

I heard a German painter was commissioned by a pope in the 13th century to paint Christ. Not having a model he just used his own face - so now Jesus looks like a blond German guy with long hair and a beard.

Yes, there is anti-black racism in religion. There is also anti-white bigotry in religion (perhaps as a reaction to the anti-black racism). And anti-Jew bigotry in religion. All which supports what I concluded long ago: mankind is prone to bigotry, period. What's new?

As for Jesus, He seems to be many things to many people. He seems to take on our nature more often than the other way around. We amplify the characteristics and teachings that we relate to the most. He is a conservative to the conservatives, a progressive to the progressives, a socialist to the socialists, a racist to the racists, and so down the line. As for appearance, I recall a news magazine that showed about 20 or so completely different portraits of Jesus, depending on who painted His face.

We don't know what Jesus looked like any more than we know what Moses looked like. In support of Sparda's point though, I will point out that in the movie "The Passion of the Christ", Jesus was the least semitic looking of all the Jews in that movie.

Cheers!

(my Jesus wouldn't have turned down a beer at the end of the day)

personally i hate religion with all its bureaucracy and dogma. i love pure, simple faith, and as far as i can tell, faith has no color. the biological jesus of the christians was a man of color. other prophets of other faiths were other colors. it makes no difference who they were. what they did was teach a moral code to the people of their day. i have faith. i have faith that there is a plan. i have faith that we as a species are evolving. so the various stupid ways that we discriminate against each other will fall behind us.

First, I don't believe Jesus was a member of any race we know on this earth. He was the supernaturally created son of God Almighty. He was born of a woman, but he was the son of God, created like Adam without a mother. He was created an embryo and placed in Mary's womb to grow.
Second, as far as his color goes, who cares? Jesus Christ died for my sins whether he was black, white, red, brown or yellow and that is all that matters. His blood was the very blood of God, because God dwelt in him. The point is moot, but if Jesus was black in color, it wouldn't make any difference to me.
Not to change the subject, but why do colors matter so much to some people? I know there are people who look down on other Christians because of the color of their skin and its one of the stupidest things I've ever heard of! I've been in churches where most of the congregation was white, others where most of it was black, others where it was about evenly mixed and still others where it was literally all one or the other. All of them good Christians. All loving each other and God. So what's the big deal?

You guys have to realize that Sparda sees racism in everything. Go look at his posts elsewhere. If he gets turned down by a white woman it's racism. People think Jesus was Semitic and it's racism. Separate your laundry into whites and darks and it's racism.

Just cuz negroes were slaves doesn't mean they are inferior, look around and u will find the most indolent,blood-sucking, grossly inferior people on this earth eating away on others' toils who happen to be from any race, not necessarily black or white or yellow for that matter.
I think 50% of what you become depends on upbringing, 25% on education and the remeining 25% on your experiences in life. Sparda, take a positive outlook on your experiences, you might as well want to change a little bit of what u said.
I know it doesnt quite make sense nor is it related to this forum, but just so u know.
just my humble opinion...................anyone who disagrees if free to shout

Let's see.... Jerusalem....Arab society....hmmm....thinking....yep, Jesus was an Arab Jew. That said, why would it matter? I am agnostic, but I have studied religion extensively to find this out. However, I do believe that Jesus was a real man, who was not the 'son of god' but had a vision greater than the chaos of his time. He did what he did in the name of something greater then he, and to promote something that we have all lost touch with: love. Sappy yes, but the man did that, and there has been great cover ups to keep the truth to keep the 'peace,' so to speak. If you didn't have doubts about heaven, hell, god, etc., then what would be the purpose in being civil? If everyone believed as I, do you think people with feeble minds would hesitate to murder, rape, pillage, etc.? The man made a wonderful sacrifice, and all this came from an Arab Jew. Get over the race issue and see the meaning behind the act. Stop taking things at face value.

Racism, huh? HAHAHAHAHAHA!!!! Okay, somebody woke the Beast, right? Woe and despair to all and sundry, for Feral rears its ugly head:

I am aware that most whites and other non-blacks get highly defensive when it comes to light that the one known as "Jesus" was a black man.

For my part, I'm aware that there's enough bickering in religious circles before anyone throws out the race card. Beyond that, I don't know of any people, of any color, that get defensive about Jesus' race (come to think of it, I don't know many who even think about it).

They refuse to see one of the greatest spiritual teachers of all time coming from a race that they deem to be inferior!

Here's an interesting question: Who is it that's bringing superiority/inferiority into it? Complex, anyone?

It is also apparent that most people do not even realize that most of the characters in the Bible in the Old Testament were of black African descent.

I like this one. I really like this one. In my understanding, ultimately, the human race is of African descent. Need any more be said? No. Oh, but I will.

This is because society has been raised to believe that anything of value has to come from whiteness, or if not white, certainly not from anyone black!

Spoken like a true follower of Elijah Muhammad. See, the problem with this is, you made the one simple mistake of walking in and spouting reverse-racist rhetoric in a location known to be frequented by intelligent, educated human beings. Sorry, no dice.

But the people have a hatred for black people that goes beyond human comprehension.

Which people? Come on, we gotta know who to take to task for this. Give 'em a taste of their own medicine and all that.

So let me ask you "christian" people one honest question....

Oops, this was addressed to the Christians. Oh, well. I'll ask an honest question... What would you do, seriously now, if Jesus came back (you know, the whole "second coming" thing) as a white man?

Jesus was a Nazarite: a vow of Nazarites was to never cut his hair but “let the locks of the hair of his head grow.” Woolly nappy hair, if simply washed & dried but never combed or brushed, will naturally entwine into long locks as it grows!

Like Jesus, Mary and Joseph, the lineage of Ethiopian Emperor, Haile Selassie also goes back to Judah -through Solomon/Queen of Sheba and King David. Roman historian Tacitus wrote that many of his time believed that the Jews "were a race of Ethiopian origin."

The Bible classifies the Ethiopians & Jews together, "Are ye not as children of the Ethiopians unto me, “O children of Israel? Saith the Lord."

To those people that believe that just because that part of the world TODAY is inhabited by those mixed up arab people (mixed up as in racial ethnicities...) that it means those same people inhabited that part of the world centuries ago, get real! That is like looking at the USA today and saying that the native Americans must have been white folks!

And to the guy that asked me, what if 'Jesus' came back as a white man, I wouldn't care as long as he had love for me. Besides, blacks have been force-fed the image of a white jesus for centuries anyway. But it seems to me that most people can accept an arab (white-like) Jesus as opposed to the image of a strong, black, man. This is because the people have a desperate need to see black people as leaches on world society and not huge contributors. Not in giving spiritual knowledge or otherwise.
