yeh....Dukes of Stratosphere very way out.....i mean tracks like "Ballad of Peter Pumkinhead", "Knights in Shining Karma" or "Holly Up On Poppy" are great for the titles alone!!!
|
| are XTC still around Posted: 1/7/2006 1:33:21 AM | I STILL have that song "Complicated" with the long fade-out ringing in my ears.
"A compa, a compa, a complicated....."
A great band, haven't heard from them in awhile.
I know Partridge was doing collaborations with Harold Budd a few years ago, but that was about it.

XTC's last album was Wasp Star recorded in the late 90s which has the great track "Im the Man Who Murdered Love"...they gave up touring in the early 80's due to Andy Partridge's terrible stage fright, and indeed has worked with Harold Budd, Thomas Dolby, Joan Armatrading and Terry Hall

| are XTC still around Posted: 4/22/2006 6:16:30 PM | | Loves XTC. Wished more people did. Although one band from Canada, the Crash Test Dummies, did cover "The Ballad of Peter Pumkinhead" for a movie, can't remember which one, but I think it had something to do with Jim Carrey. | |
|
| are XTC still around Posted: 4/22/2006 11:50:39 PM | | Well XTC is quite an excellent band but they are working on a CD right now and I think they are starting a tour sometime this year. Also why didn't anyone just google the name and check out their site, or did I miss that post? | |

| are XTC still around Posted: 11/2/2007 5:14:50 PM | They have some of the catchiest tunes ever recorded.
Senses Working Overtime, a classic.
They did the original Peter Pumpkinhead which is a much better version than the one recorded by that Winnipeg band.

| are XTC still around Posted: 11/3/2007 1:06:14 PM | | good band, liked them alright-- remember seeing their videos on MTV's 120 Minutes a lot back in the mid/late 80's :) | |
|
| are XTC still around Posted: 11/4/2007 9:27:35 AM | | Yes they are still around. Some of the members have been working with the band Pugwash from Dublin Ireland, I HIGHLY recommend their stuff, so do an internet search and listen to some soundclips! Search for [ Pugwash "Thomas Walsh" ] because he's the mastermind behind the band and a really great bloke in general! | |
|
| are XTC still around Posted: 11/5/2007 8:48:09 AM | I'll have to check out Pugwash!
Apparently Andy Partridge and Robyn Hitchcock have been writing songs together recently as well. I'm a long time fan of both, so I'll be very happy if/when this collaboration leads to a release.
The last XTC release I know of was Partridge's "Fuzzy Warbles" box set in which years and years of outtakes and b-sides were collected on nine discs. There are some really good tunes on these discs, but (and I HATE saying this as a die-hard fan) there are good reasons a lot of the others didn't make it onto XTC albums. I recommend it for XTC fanatics, but really no one else.
|
| are XTC still around Posted: 11/6/2007 10:58:38 AM | Gawd...what a great band!
And Sgt. Rock (Is Going to Help Me) or Living Through Another Cuba. I remember when I would specifically look at who produced, if I saw Steve Lillywhite as the producer I knew it was going to be solid.
|
| are XTC still around Posted: 11/21/2008 7:56:22 PM | The answer is no. Colin Moulding left the band in 2006 and Andy Partridge didn't want to continue without his collaboration. Moulding for reasons only known to him, isn't interested in working with XTC.

| are XTC still around Posted: 11/22/2008 4:41:01 AM | Ahhhh, good times, good times!! One of the first 'non-mainstream' bands I ever saw back in the 80's......(just as well if they aren't still together -- ever see a band 20 years after their hey-day just to experience a serious lunch-bag letdown?). I prefer to remember them as they 'were'...... | |
