Posted: 1/15/2006 4:07:20 PM | Anyone care to step out on a slippery rock, (so to speak) and explain here in what words you are comfortable with; exactly what "Reality" is in your opinion???
No preaching, no "Witnessing", no argumentation,..only civil statements and polite questions....
I will of course stay out of it ....... I might ask a poster to be civil...or for clarification of a point...other than that I promise to remain silent...

Reality is filtered through the minds constructs. There is only subjective reality available to a human being, the essence of consciousness cannot be used to assess the things it constructs. We create the world we see as a bubble of awareness, the bubble reflects what we project on the bubble and it reinforces itself. This can be readily experienced through the use of LSD and amphetamine sulphate together...I recommended anybody that doubts the chemical nature of awareness to try this out.. Reality is that we have and continue to evolve from a primordial life form. Reality is that the circumstances of our evolution brought on the development of intellectual facilities that we now use to wonder what reality is. Reality is chopping wood and carrying water. Reality is all that we know (not all that we BELIEVE). Reality is the feel of a warm woodstove on a cold winter day. Reality is that we are a product of the living earth, children of the Great Mother. Reality is the steady acceleration of global warming. Reality is that we have only one earth on which to make our lives. Reality is that we are interdependent creatures living in isolation, believing that we are independent because our food comes from Safeway, and our water comes from a tap or a bottle. It's because Life really IS a dream. This is only a school so to speak where we are right now, and we think it's reality, but it really isn't. Reality is when we leave this coccoon (our bodies) and our souls are free on the otherside. | |

Posted: 1/15/2006 7:29:46 PM | An interesting question. BUT not a complete one. Do you mean reality as a whole, outside of us, or reality relative to us?
See, there's the perception of reality, which is what our minds see, and then there's the actual reality. Douglas Adams, in his book "Mostly Harmless" created a character which was nothing more then a computerized guide book(version 2). This guide has no perception filters. Everything else does. We as humans can only percieve sound in a very small frequency range, only percieve a small bit of the EM spectrum, we can't percieve more then one instant of time, ect... That is our perception of reality. But if we had no filters. If we could "see" everything and anything then what we would expereince would be reality as it truely is. But as a human that is not possible. So to humans, what we see, hear, taste, touch, and smell is our reality. Everything else is either a transformation TO what we can percieve or something ouside of our reality that exists in the true reality, which is relative to the perception of the universe. | |

Mind and matter cannot be separated, that is, there exists only a "mind-matter" analogous to the space-time of the relativists. All internal link evolution or cosmogenesis is the history of the increasing complexity of matter, from elementary particles to human society. At each level of complexity the "inside of things" is revealed in properties that we call life and (later on) reflective consciousness. Each stage sees the mind liberating itself from matter. Pushed to its logical limits, the law of complexity consciousness (the more complex a system, the more conscious it is) leads to the integration of all consciousnesses in a single God, the point of convergence of all evolution. There's a third world, a world of objective contents and thoughts. | |

Real is determined by verification, or, being able to sense the thing again. In this way to ask whether something is real is to ask whether it can be sensed. Then you can have a personal reality or a shared one, depending on if others can sense the thing, too. Reality is the condition of being thought of as existing beyond one's imagination. | |
