Who should govern? I am reffering to new laws protecting music. many music sites that upload individuals renditions of artist's written music are now being threatened with jail time.

| internet law Posted: 1/19/2006 8:39:46 PM | | If I were an artist and had a copyrighted song, I would probably want to be paid for its use because I am greedy and want to make money. So I would sue all violators and wish them all jail time or, at least, reimbursement. Since I am not, I want to be able to download everything for free because I want to keep what little money I have and not be penalized for anything. Such a delemna.... | |

Google is fighting it...but under court order they DO have to give up ISP adresses of certain people who research certain things. Probably anyone punching in , say, child porn, get checked immediately. I am sure they use the "keyword" option to make up lists of suspected criminals from the research people do.
Freedom of speech means just that. BUT...it does not mean that your words won't come back to haunt you....
Oh...the Canadian gov't has a tax on blank tapes and videos, etc which is to be used to pay artists for people making copies of their work...but you have to apply for it. I have no clue how it works from there.

We are losing our rights and privacy slowly and surely, until one day we will wake up to find they are gone.
It is a paradox that if you are a musician, you want to get paid. But musicians are getting a bigger chunk of change by touring. Ticket prices are outrageous.
Nearly 20 bucks for a CD that costs a buck to make is outrageous too. But it's becoming a moot point because each year the music industry dwindles down another 5 percent.
The Top Twenty Billboard charts reflects how crappy music has gotten.
The times are a changin.

hey bob dyan wants his cut for using his line
lol
hey people used to record of the radio maybe they should charge a fee for blank media who knows but hey the more people that hear their music (paid for or not) the more people that will want to go to their shows --- but why should someone have to pay the fee for their backing up of computer files (someone always loses so lets let the people with the money get a say 10% tax break for lost revenue -- consider it a charitable contribution +
it is not like they are not getting nothing ---- they are getting advertising
