or moving away !!!!!
so if you think people are slow because of where they live, you must be a racist also
or you just like to prejudge people
being quick isn't so good.....or that's what your g/f said

| North East florida...ie jacksonville,.... Posted: 2/14/2006 10:24:54 PM | Excuse me... I was born and raised here in North Florida and I'm not at all "slow" and if people thing us "natives" are and they don't like it.. then hey... hit the road... doesn't bother us one little bit. That type comments will be you in trouble. I hate that people from all over especially the "north" cut the southern people down but as soon as they retire or can afford it they run their butts down here so they can ENJOY THE SLOW LAID BACK LIFESTYLE... please.. give me a break.. go home to the snow... yuk... | |

Now, they consider all us Cajun's dumb too. The people are not dumb in the South. We just have different ways of doing things and different priorities. Wanting to have fun in the sunshine and doing every sporting event we can instead of watching TV and dining out every night might seem strange. Give me a backyard BBQ to fine dining anyday. A southern lady sees a mouse or a roach and they get out the trap and spray. A northern lady yells and screams and calls us savages for living here. They move down and want to apply their way of thinking to us and their way of life, but, we refuse. We're happy with our way of life and for that, we're considered not too bright. BTW, are there any down home country girls out there around my age that would like to meet a down home country guy that is happy with what life has to offer and can be happy with being alive and enjoying lifes small pleasures? This does not require a response as to the intelligence of the person. In fact, it would show great intelligence. Be happy with what you have and not dwell on what you don't have.

I know what you mean, we're just different.. I like to be laid back... I like floating on a nice river on a sunny day, sitting around a camp fire or bon fire on a stary night... listening to the frogs and crickets... watching a hawk dine on mice and field critters... Thank goodness tonight is my last night at work until next week. I'm having my annual birthday bash this weekend, lots of friends, family, food, drink, horses and just a dang good time from tomorrow until Monday!!! Yiippeee!!!

| North East florida...ie jacksonville,.... Posted: 12/21/2008 7:51:19 AM | Ok I was born and raised here and am NOT slow. However, I also felt as though I never fit in, especially since I lived on the westside. I don't live there anymore, but work there and little has changed since I did.
But maybe he means the nightlife and the activities available for going out and doing things. I guess if you really try you can find things to do. There are a lot of clubs and lots of restaurants and movie theaters. But not a whole lot of other stuff. The Art Walk is proving to be a huge hit because it's one of the few culturally rich activities we have to offer.
And as far as racism goes here, it reeks. It's underlying, but it's here. Being a white person I hear lots of it because they assume I must believe like them. And my friend belongs to a blog for the local paper and she said it's full of racist people just letting loose on the people of color in our city.
As I said not much has changed since I was growing up here.

| North East florida...ie jacksonville,.... Posted: 1/11/2009 8:40:09 AM | I personally dislike the southern accents some people have down here.
As far as racism goes, I see a lot of black people acting racist towards whites too. It's a 2 lane road. You can't be allowed to call us 'cracker' and talk about woe is my family blah blah blah, I'm on WIC with my 10 kids. Not every black person is bad, but they certainly don't act like they want to be treated with respect.
That's just my 2 cents. | |
|
| North East florida...ie jacksonville,.... Posted: 1/11/2009 3:53:39 PM | Guess since I hang around educated black people I don't see that. Unfortunately educated white people are not always racism free.
But then again I used to teach in one of the ''urban'' schools and never faced any racism whatsoever in that area of town. When people go in making assumptions about any racial group, whether voiced out loud or just thought of in their minds...they can appear nervous, and non truthful with their demeanor and their talk.
I talk to every person I meet the same way. I don't care what color they are. And I'm open and honest, and I can have dialogue with all my black coworkers and friends about racism issues. Most white people don't even try that...they're so afraid of offending. If you approach people with honesty and some degree of intelligence, then they'll treat you the same. Go in with preconceived notions and they'll pick up on that.
