| Erin Brockovich Posted: 1/21/2006 10:38:22 PM | I just saw the movie for the 2nd time, and I think she's awesome. She had no experience in the legal field whatsoever, yet she helped the law firm she worked for((although she did all the work)) win THE largest cash settlement in California history. And against PG&E ((that's like fighting city hall))>... I admire her tenacity and cojones~~~~ She never gave up and didn't let anybody give her any crap She got what she deserved in the end though, which was even more cool~~~ | |

| Erin Brockovich Posted: 1/22/2006 3:56:32 AM | yes i agree; the movie was very inspirational. Alot of what she had going for her was her drive and determination, and very much to be respected at that. very good movie. | |

Something tells me that this was probably exaggerated a little bit by the director, but what do I know. It was a decent movie and I respect The lady a lot for what she was able to do.
I would like to point out two situations that revolved around this movie that I found disturbing.
One is that while Julia Roberts was giving her acceptance speech for the award she received for playing Erin's character, she spent ample time thanking numerous people, and yet she somehow overlooked Erin Brockovich herself. What kind of mindless moron would you have to be to not thank the person whom which your character is portraying? If it weren't for Erin, Julia never would have been in that movie and gotten the award, even with the help of everyone else that she named off on the list. I will never watch another movie with Julia Roberts in it again.
Second is the fact that after the movie was released, Erin Brockovich was awarded an honorary PhD in Law by Yale University. Although I happen to think that handing out PhD's to most people (like actors and whatnot) is just ludicrous, I could see why Erin would have probably come closer two earning hers than most recipients. The problem that I have with this is that she was not awarded this degree until after the movie was released, some 15 years or so after the incident if my memory serves me. Why did they wait so long. It's not like no one knew who she was until the movie came out. And by the time the movie came out, she a long since passed her bar exam and become a lawyer, so it's not even as if she needed the degree.

| Erin Brockovich Posted: 1/22/2006 11:49:23 AM | I didn't see the speech Julia Roberts gave when she recieved the award, but it's hard to believe she didn't thank Erin herself. Was she in the audience>? That's too bad..
You know, regarding your comment about her receiving her PhD>? Life aint always fair is what I found out. I guess you gotta have your 15 minutes of fame in order to be recognized sometimes.
I know it was a movie "based on", but I also read that she played a big part in the making of the movie, as far as accuracy. I know, the Hollywood drama is always added. I also know what it's like to be a single parent and have to sometimes "fight" for whatever you think is right or for what you know you deserve. I admire the fact that she was so compassionate with all of the people involved and got so many of them to open up--even a couple of them who didn't want to at first. Tenacity---It will "sometimes" get you everywhere~~~

| Erin Brockovich Posted: 1/22/2006 12:18:51 PM | | a side note to the movie...the scene toward the beginning when she takes the kids out to eat, and the boy orders a cheeseburger...the waitress talking the order was the real Erin Brochovich | |

That's like fighting 478 city halls...or more. (please don't sell this short; that win was huge)
the waitress talking the order was the real Erin Brochovich
"humble" to her deepest core.
*sigh* What a woman.......what a heart.

| Erin Brockovich Posted: 1/23/2006 4:17:46 PM | Thanks dog_mommy, I didn't know that...I'll have to pay attention when I see it again.
I agree ffrosty, "humble"... She did something more than amazing and I'm going to buy that movie this week. It's a great reminder, I think, that we can do whatever we put our heart and soul into, whatever we're passionate about~

| Erin Brockovich Posted: 1/23/2006 5:49:28 PM | I liked the movie quite a bit. It's nice to know that there are real people that just care about helping, not making the buck.
I like that Julia got to pretend to be smart, too! Julia the mean girl lol!

I was a legal secretary for 3 years. You'd be suprised at the amount of work we do. From interviewing clients to one day I got to go undercover as a bride to be to investigate whether a hotel was selling off its equipment in the rooms.
There are things lawyers can get us to do because if they were to do it, it would be a conflict of interest or might get them disbarred.
I always received extra money for doing this type of stuff though. Basically, we just can't give any type of legal advice at all. But investigations etc. is something legal assistants often help out in.
