| Guess who's back... Posted: 1/25/2006 10:34:17 PM | The Conservatives will actually form the government in Ottawa. A Canadian city. Conservatives with Jason Kenney. In our capitol. In Canada. I did not make this up.
-----
In truth, these Conservatives aren't the Conservatives of old... I think I'd have to undergo a complete frontal lobatomy before I'd vote for any party that Joe Clark supports. Though, I have to give kudos to the Mulrooney Conservatives for taking the neccesary steps (ie. GST, free trade) to eliminate our deficit and even give a nod to Kim Campbell for cutting the Trudeau-esque cabinet composing nearly a full 1/3 of all the MPs in parliament down to a couple dozen - too bad for them that public opinion of those PCs dropped like a rock and our inane electoral system only magnified the situation (remember? the seperatists became the official opposition)
So, Harper was first a liberal; left them because of NEP. Then was an aide to a Mulrooney cabinet minister... bailed on that because of unsound economic policies... lobbied for mroe transparency in political donations... wrote much of the Reform party platform, won a seat for them... left THEM because he disagreed with their leader... then comes on as leader of the second incarnation of Reform after Stockwell Day paraded around too much in wetsuits one summer... convinces the remaining members of the 'other' right-wing party to join up (except for the Liberals masquerading as PCs)... defends his leadership against an eventual Benedict Arnold and her unfornate boyfriend... loses an election... takes down a government... takes down a government a second time because the first time didn't count on a technicality and our governor general was hurridly spending our taxdollars before being traded out with another patronage/francophone appointtee... finally, he gets himself a minority government.
Hmmm.... a good question is whether this new government can get anything done?
And...
- did Matty lose his job yet?
- where are the soldiers with guns in my city? The Liberals promised me soldiers. With guns...
- new Liberal leader: McKenna or Stronach? Wow...
Frank - patronage appointment before the election Paul Martin won to keep the political hotshot from usurping Martin's influence in the party (ie. McKenna CAN be bought) - McKenna went to the States AIMING to piss them off. Expect more anti-Americanism.
Belinda - Daddy built a company... and she managed to not run it into the ground! What an amazing accomplishment! I'd rather Frank than this opportunistic politico! At least he managed to do some useful things with NB's transfer payments before going back to practicing law.
Hmmm.... very political post.... but, my ban was untimely... I'm off a trolling! | |

| Guess who's back... Posted: 1/26/2006 7:13:30 AM | ^^^AND GET HANGED FOR TREASON!!!
the future looks safe for me for now, thank goodness for minority governments...
I haven't been keeping up, who are the tories going to form the government with? Has it been announced?
If it's the NDP, i don't think that Layton will get any repeat voters next election.. who knows, maybe the green party will get their votes... I would vote for Harper next time if he legislated a bill banning separatist activities, (ahem: Bloc Quebecois) And hang those treasonous dogs too. And maybe if he relaxed on the whole "religious agenda." I have my doubts...
How long do you think it'll take for Quebec to have another referendumb?
Shoulda voted for the Marijuana party... | |

| Guess who's back... Posted: 1/26/2006 9:54:59 AM | Harper could practically do no wrong during this last elections campaign. Heck he merely had to stick to his agenda and let Martin systematically shoot off his own toes, one by one, with a big ol' hole shot into each foot, followed by a double-insertion of feet into his pie-hole as a finale. Out west, I think that was outstanding entertainment.
Personally I expect some interesting changes now. It's no fluke that Harper's the new man in charge. Layton has already said that, though he doesn't currently think he supports any of policies that the Conservatives laid out, but he will cooperate with them anyway. Who knows what the Bloq will do.. I think they're a bit confused over how many seats the Conservatives actually won in PQ/Ont. | |

| Guess who's back... Posted: 1/26/2006 10:01:20 AM | | Free Trade cost many many jobs. It was a terrible thing. Ontario never has recovered from it to this day. yep, I agree with above comment - all separists should be hung for treason, or maybe shot with a handgun because it would give them a practical use! | |

| Guess who's back... Posted: 1/26/2006 2:05:44 PM | Matty: 1. I never swore allegiance to Canada's sovereign, the Queen. 2. Look up the word treason ;)
Referendum could come in 2 years in Quebec, depending how the provincial Liberals fare in the next provincial election... seeing as the PQ Liberals seemed to make the appearance of supporting Harper, the actions of the feds over the coming months will play a big role in how the provincial election turns out.
Reading some recent Duceppe quotes, one can see that he's backing down from his typically more aggressive stance in order that the BQ maintains it's appeal with the moderate seperatists.
tcpl: An astute assesment of the situation which I agree with. :)
arnoldlayne: Free trade cost a lot of overpaid, unionized jobs when products that could be made more efficiently became available to the market - anyone who doesn't like free trade SHOULD be wholly supportive of ideas like seperatist movements and firewalls. Why? The legislated retention of wealth.
You don't like free trade because it cost jobs. I don't like Alberta being part of Canada because it costs jobs.
But really, was free trade so bad? The mean cost to purchase many, many items went down - adding some substantial value to our dollar - in effect, giving everyone in Canada a veritable raise! Alberta recovered from NEP so it's a somewhat sad that over a decade of free trade Ontario hasn't been able to adapt (too heavy reliance on the manufacturing industry?) | |

welcome back.
i've got a noose with your name on it, come on up traitor!
LOL | |

| Guess who's back... Posted: 1/27/2006 12:44:55 AM | Hey MO!!!!
Good to see you back...
Looking forward to many more antics
P.S. I think you should actually run for the separatist party...I'd vote for ya for sure | |
|
| Guess who's back... Posted: 1/27/2006 1:15:11 AM | I was thinking about it...
But first... I hear Myron Thompson in Wild Rose has run his last election... I wonder...?!
Naw... I'm not political enough to challenge the seriously determined wannabe politicians who'll line up to take Myron's very safe Conservative riding over. I just think about MP Brian Storseth (Westlock-St Paul), who I grew up with, and KNOW I'm not as politically minded as him... we used to play Shogun against eachother as kids and my superior military and tactical strategy was all too often trumped by his ability to get other players to ally with him!
But then, Anders and Kenney both seem to get re-elected... LOL - Anders is a real mystery to me...
Running as a separatist... hrmmm - it's a few years to the next provincial election so I best get on that post haste to make a good showing! | |
|
| Guess who's back... Posted: 1/27/2006 7:56:55 AM | I live in Myron Thompson's riding....and have not heard any such rumor ^^^. He does say that he will run again for Parliament if the gov't falls before the end of 2006.
Ya, so thats that, and thats all I'm gonna say in regard to politics. | |
