latest cookbook you bought?

last week mine was a steal at 1$ for
the french culinary institute's salute to healthy cooking.
what a nice find! the recipes appear sumptious despite their healthy inclinations...
the photography is stunning, it is a joy to hold, peruse and read.

i walked away with several bags of new and first edition books
and even a few old 1930's cookbook pamphlets.
but it IS a sickness of mine; considering i don't have enough bookcases NOW at 7 and i'm having to move yet again after renting this place last september as it went condo conversion.
i have too many books and kitchen acroutrements as it is now,
but does that deter me? no, not in the least, it is a sickness i tell you.
but at least i get ideas from them and i love that.
my library is mostly nonfiction and i have hundreds of cookbooks.

so, what cookbook was your latest acquisition?
what'd you like best about it?

I buy cook books like a mad man. I go to this wonderful chain here called Half Price Books and they are literally every where. I make the rounds as often as possible. Some books are newly printed, others are antiquities that are extremely interesting but not practical. I like the old ones due to my curiosity of culinary history. I often buy duplicates by mistake.

My latest buy is Everyday Italian by Giada de Laurentiis. I enjoy her ease of presentation, unique fusion of some Italian to American dishes, and the dead on classics (the most). Lovely woman. Looks curiously like the one I am dating.

I wish I could remember. I stopped buying around 200. It was a bit much. All one needs is Rachel Rays books, what else is there?

the other day I was wandering around chapters and they had a sale on and I picked up this little book called.."how to cook absolutely everything" by anne willan. It goes through every type of ingredient and cooking method and with pics examines it to show then its overdone or underdone etc...sort of like a forensic examination. It was cheap too.

and I don't own a rachel ray book but you know now that ablueskies said that's ALL I need then I have to get one!

I subscribe to the Rachel Ray website, the magazine, have all her books (signed of course), have plans to stalk her in the near future, and wish to propagate with her (possibly gaining access to her DNA and cloning her, as to create more programming on each network).

I would also super enhance her hump for greater affect, and dumb down her cooking skills to appeal to a greater audience.

This one is for steve. Didn't you mention you were looking for a girl with a jokers smile?

http://www.slate.com/id/2122085 and this "defense" is funny also.

But she deserves our respect. She understands how Americans really cook, and she's an exceptional entertainer.

hehe and azblueskies and dallasguy.....you are both americans I believe? LOL

I am not advocating another hate Rachel Ray thread, but damn. Those thighs of hers are HUGE, and the Joker smile would make babies cry. I can see her hoarding tons of that bad food she concocts into that over-sized mouth of hers to feed her hunchback hump.

OK, its out of my system... and Squirrly my friend, I will wait in the shadows to engage my revenge for that! j/k of course... not! lol

I was talking to my gf last night and mentioned this thread. I told her my reference to her and my last book purchase. So for her and anyone else interested, this is what Giada looks like, and the new Dallasguy girl is eerily similar (only cuter)... http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Giada_De_Laurentiis

HOT SOUR SALTY SWEET a culinary journey through southeast asia, by Jeffrey Alford and Naomi Duguid....very nice.....about 5 years ago!..It is based on their trip all over that area, eating tradition foods in villages, and small towns, and learning the techniques, which they share, along with stunning photography!!

I buy cookbooks weekly. . Estate sales.. garage sales.. . got a little collection of those church and neighborhood cookbooks. .. some old Bettry Crockers etc.. and I normally pick up the cookbooks on clearance at Barnes and Nobles..

Just wish I could spend more time in the kitchen. . Try to do a new recipe every week..

I'm addicted to cooking shows and cook books as long as the book has beautiful color pics I'm good. The last one I bought was Donna Hay I also enjoy the Best of Bridge series too even though they don't have a lot of pictures the recipes are very good and easy.

My favorite recipes come from The Bride & Groom First and Forever Cookbook . The recipes are simple and tasty and many come with directions for 2. I'm dying to get the cookbook BAKED, was hoping to get a copy for the holidays, but looks like I"ll have to get it for a gift to myself!
