False Promise?

Jashua said:

"For the Son of Man is going to come in the glory of His Father with His angels; and will then recompense every man according to his deeds. Truly I say to you, there are some of those who are standing here who shall not taste death until they see the Son of Man coming in His kingdom "(Matthew 16:27-28).

The question should arise from reading this verse - Was this promise fulfilled? We read here that Yahshua declared to His disciples that some of THOSE STANDING THERE with Him when He made this statement WOULD NOT DIE before they saw Him return to this earth to rule and reign in His kingdom, returning to this earth in the glory of His Father with His angels to recompense every man according to his deeds. Did this happen? The obvious answer is - No. All of the disciples but John died prematurely. So, was Yahshua’s promise a false claim? On the surface, it certainly appeared to be. He did not set up His kingdom as expected; He did not return in the glory of His Father and recompense every man according to his deeds. So, what is the outcome? What went wrong? Why didn’t the kingdom come as Yahshua declared?

This verse is thought by some to be a reference to the Transfiguration which happened soon after this statement was made. Aside from that, Jesus said alot of things that were hard to understand.

You actually added your own intrepretation when you mentioned reign in His kingdom and returning with angels. The verse does not say that. The fact is anyone who was there at the Resurrection saw Jesus coming in His kingdom. The fulfillment of all the promises had not and have not come to pass, but Jesus' kingdom is not of this earth, so you cannot say the verse was not true.

RDToo; Jeshua's reign is not until the end days. That is when he will return. Jesus (Jashua) was telling his disciples that there would be some who would not die and would live to see him coming back for his reign....he was even very specific about it stating that it would be some who were standing right there, at the time he was saying this! So now a couple thousand years has passed...where are these people? They must be still walking the earth as an immortal, because Jeshua has not returned yet.

This reminds me of a movie I saw a long time ago and for the life of me I cannot remember what it was called or even what it was about...but in the movie there was a man who did live until the coming of Christ. He never "tasted death".

There are a couple of instances of people in the Bible not "tasteing death". Elijah was one of them and he was also present at the Transfiguration that I mentioned earlier. This could have applied to him as scholars seem to think. On the other hand, we have no record of John's demise. Maybe he did not taste death and was taken out of this world like Elijah. There is no way of knowing.

Who saw this resurrection? Mary and company showed up after the resurrection and they were the first on the scene.

Also note that Jesus said they would see him coming in his kingdom. If Jesus is talking about the resurrection or transfiguraion then the people would see him going to the kingdom not coming in the kingdom.

I was actually referring to those who saw Jesus after He had been resurrected. There were many of them. Sorry for the confusion.

Well that is certainly a possibility RDToo. Jesus doesn't say that they will still be on earth, I was just assuming that I guess. He does say there is more than one though. He uses the term SOME. Which I take to be at least quite a few people.

There is another possibility. Jesus also referred to a dead person as "sleeping", I think more than once. The tasting death could be referring to eternal seperation from God, which would leave one to conclude that maybe not all present there were right with God. This is only speculation.

It could possibly mean that John saw the kingdom come in his lifetime when he experienced Revelations. He was there for a time, in the time of the kingdom. However that was..

John only saw reveleations in dream state. That was a vision, not a prelude to death.
Jesus is talking about when he physically returns with his kingdom , some men will still be alive until that time. At least that is how i am reading it...they will walk the earth for more than 2,000 years. Because 0ver 2,000 years has passed now, and he still hasn't come back.

Could it be “The Seventh Sign” with Demi Moore?
