| Politically correctness Posted: 2/10/2006 12:30:13 PM | | just a quick question people. in this PC world we now live in. Do you think that a show like All in the Family would last on t.v. if it were to actually come out today. I know the reruns are still on but thats totally different .would they even think of making a show like that today, after how racist Archie Bunker was. Or do you think there would be protesting, after all like i said it is a PC world now. | |
|
| Politically correctness Posted: 2/10/2006 12:36:04 PM | Well, if All in the Family is still in reruns, how can you say it's a pc world?
Fox might protest it because it casts Archie Bunker in a bad light... but who else would say "boo"?

Hard to take when you can't just have only the news you want to hear isn't it. Having real news isn't any fun. Does anyone even watch or read that CNN/Ny Times type news anymore?...FOX ROX's. Unless of course truth isn't important. It's a wonder the stockholders of CNN and the so called old media put up with lagging viewership. I think they are victims of a major "swirly".

"news" is the plural of "new". .... what are you getting at, exactly? yes... people watch CNN and the NYT is still the world's biggest selling paper. Do you live in some world where they don't and it's not? I don't watch fox. yes, the truth is important.

I don't even know anyone who watches fox...
here's a website that offers a "foxblocker" in fact..

What the hell are you talking about? Or did you post into the wrong thread by mistake? Just a hint: It's always a good idea for your post to have something to do with the thread you're posting on.
As for the ACTUAL topic, seeing as how Archie Bunker is essentially a caricature, I find if hard to believe that anyone would take him seriously enough to actually protest his being on TV. If anyone were to protest, it would most likely be people who are pretty much like his character, rather than the NAACP or any other such group.

I wholeheartedly concur... I think rdb was just looking for something to flame about... and couldn't find anything good. He does have limited resources (Fox) apparently.

LoL...not every thread is a Bush bash thread...but that doesn't stop you and world
But just so you and world can finally win one....ohhhh.you got me...I'm sooo embarrassed. You guys are too sharp for me. Is that better, carry on with the hand wringing....Have you looked under the front porch?...George W. Bush is under there...he's gonna get ya!
|
| Politically correctness Posted: 2/10/2006 3:09:08 PM | Huh? Where's the Bush bash? Considering that you're accusing others of being off topic, you might check dictionary dot com and look up irony.
On topic: Eric Cartman on South Park says stuff that would never fly in the '70s and it's going into its 9th or 10 th season I think.

Kindly point out where Bush was mentioned...other than in your post. Talk about clutching at straws.
"You guys are too sharp for me." That's painfully obvious.
Oh yes, just to reiterate: It's always a good idea for your post to have something to do with the thread you're posting on.

You have to realize...most of the angry hateful stuff on here is coming from those that used to get beat up in school all the time...Used to save their bu tts all the time...they needed someone to look after them or Darwins theory would have come into play...you know the stronger thrives the weaker get eaten. Society protects the weak...so as punishment...we have to listen to them...be a good sport...next time offer them some cheese with their whine.

| Politically correctness Posted: 2/13/2006 7:43:55 PM | The character "Archie Bunker" was written and portrayed (meaningfully so) as an ignorant moron. That was the comedic genious of the whole show. No one really took him seriously (other than Meat-Lid). But, I could not ever foresee it being re-made in this day and age.
But hey, you never know????

| Politically correctness Posted: 2/13/2006 8:49:17 PM | I do not see any difference between All in the Family and the Family Guy...
I see no problem with it being on tv in today's society, censorship should be done at home, by parents, not by lobbists and goverment people...

| Politically correctness Posted: 2/13/2006 10:25:35 PM | | Political correctness is not only about TV, It`s an attack on the right thinking people of the world, granted you will get your racist, sexist, ageist or whatever `ist` you want in every society and country in the world. I personally don`t need some do-gooder telling me what i should say or think or that racism is wrong or that sexism is not allowed etc.. I watched on the news at Christmas, where some city council in the UK refused to call the Cities christmas lights , Christmas lights, but instead opted for ` Winter lights`so not offend the cities Muslim citizens. And then there is story on the news that a candlelit parade from a church through the town centre at Christmas was banned for 2 reasons, one reason was the same as the above story and the second reason was because the council didn`t want candlewax dripping onto the streets of that town. In the Uk with the influx of immigrants and asylum seekers these days, the moment you want to address that you are automatically branded a racist or a xenophobic and in some cases both. PC has gone absolutely mad, and i do wish some people would really get their head out of their asses. Me personally i call a spade a spade ( and no that`s not a racist comment). | |
|
| Politically correctness Posted: 2/13/2006 10:33:54 PM | I cannot help but love political correctness.
If these self-appointed "saviors" of our society are going to use public funding for their parades, I say they should dam well have to call it a "winter" celebration rather than "christmas", which is not even really a religious occasion as much as it is just an economic stimulus to increase consumer spending at the end of the year.
I don't like religion in places where it shouldn't be allowed, like government buildings and so forth...
I'm just a type of guy who likes calling a spade a spade, yaknow?

| Politically correctness Posted: 2/15/2006 6:26:33 AM | "All in the Family" would never get off the ground today. Neither would "Blazing Saddles" , or Don Rickles.
I think we are less because of that, as a society. Humour, done with the right intention, makes us more human.
My next door neighbour is an older black woman, and she and I both love Blazing Saddles to death. It's probably the best anti-racist film ever made, where EVERYONE looks stupid.
I just wish we could see that in real life sometimes.

Worried about homos hiding under your bed just waiting for you to sleep on your stomach? There's lots of tasteless, funny humour out there that pokes fun at race in ways that Archie Bunker could never have gotten away with. From South Park I've learned that all black people have a bass guitar in the basement and can play it without a lesson, that jews all have a bag of gold around their necks, that the Japanese are secretly plotting to take over the US through brainwashing kids, that Queer Eye is a plot to take over by crab people. That's just one show, Family Guy also goes places All In The Family couldn't.

| Politically correctness Posted: 2/15/2006 8:27:27 PM | Archie Bunker was, as grog said, essentially a caricature, but resembled a lot of real people. My own father was a an unapologetic bigot, a harsher form of 'Archie' with a lot more IQ points, but no common sense. 'All in the Family' and its spinoff series 'The Jeffersons' were more than simply hilarious and politically incorrect sitcoms. I consider them to have been blessings to society.

My Dad was almost the same! (but not quite as harsh as Archie; and WITH common sense!) In fact, my brothers-in-law and I used to jokingly call him "Archie." I really wish I still had my "Archie Bunker for President" t-shirt! (circa 1972)
