| Egyptian tomb Uncovered Posted: 2/11/2006 4:57:21 AM | The first tomb in the Valley of the Kings (Egypt) since Carter's King Tut has been uncovered. Why is this such a big discovery? It's the first one since 1922, in an area Egyptologists were convinced was fully mapped out and apprently it belongs to royalty. Weird thing is, it was but a mere 5km from King Tut's. Should we keep digging or should we leave the mysteries of the past buried? | |

| Egyptian tomb Uncovered Posted: 2/11/2006 5:39:47 AM | well it's all over the major newspapers..but i prefer the cbs article... link below
http://www.cbsnews.com/stories/2006/02/10/ap/world/mainD8FLV6V81.shtml
The strange thing is I've found different numbers of the corpses being stated. Some say five, others six, and NBC said seven. What remains constant is the five sarcophagi. Also, I say, dig!! There's just so much we haven't learned yet.

| Egyptian tomb Uncovered Posted: 2/12/2006 3:51:21 PM | | Keep digging but treat the dead with respect. We have enough mummie salready but more information on the way they lived the art and objects they made the tools they used etc are good things. | |

| Egyptian tomb Uncovered Posted: 2/12/2006 10:35:19 PM | | Where do you think the artifacts should remain? In Egypt, where they originated or should they be taken overseas with the team that uncovered them? | |
|
| Egyptian tomb Uncovered Posted: 2/12/2006 10:40:18 PM | I'd have to say right there in Egypt, in their homes. In all cultures burial is a serious issue, planned and intentional. Leave the dead where they lie. Hopefully everyone will be able to rest where they chose to be laid in burial. It's a matter of respect. Good topic, mony-penny | |

| Egyptian tomb Uncovered Posted: 2/13/2006 2:35:32 PM | hmmm..they used to use mummies for several things. Fuel for steam engines, they took the wrappings and recycled them for making paper. They ground them up for fertilizer. Mummies are not rare things. think about cremations here....where do the ashes wind up? Often they are dumped out to be "scattered on the winds"...or...in other words...used as fertilizer.
This tomb? I am not saying use the mummies...but sure...excavate and learn what we can. Why should we not? Also, the tourism industry can use a bit of a boost...all in all...go for it!

| Egyptian tomb Uncovered Posted: 2/13/2006 10:43:10 PM | | of course we should try and find out how our ancestors lived, after all history is the key to the future, without history we`d never learn from our mistakes. not that humans are very adept at learning from our mistakes, but you gotta try | |

it's like a hunting when you are not hungry. Cairo museum is full of undocumented and unstudied antiquities. But nobody study it. They just continue to dig.
P.S. Suck that we cannot make pictures in Cairo museum Egyptians do not deserve to have all this great antiquity.

excuse me! it's their history and noone is more deserving to its access than them. not sure if you remember how the us military let the baghdad museum be looted. something that would never have happened if it weren't for the occupation.

I don't think your constant infatuation with the US is healthy....maybe you should get a hobby or a pet to occupy your mind....

I was in Cairo month ago. 1. Close to the pyramid entrance between ancient blocks, was somebody’s toilet (pee and shit). 2. Street salesmen are extremely naughty, rude and dishonest. 3. It was not Arabic who build these pyramids. It was another civilization. Look all these pharaoh faces. They don't look Arabic. So inheritance is questionable. 4. They hate tourists, because we are richer, look different and non-Muslims. 5. Economics is bad, corruption level is very high, long list of crap.
In general: pyramids are great, Cairo museum resources are amazing, but people who own it are junk. They don’t deserve it (in my personal opinion).

| Egyptian tomb Uncovered Posted: 3/7/2006 3:23:40 PM | I believe the current day Egyptians carry the same ethnic strain as the ancient Egyptians. Granted there has been much intermingling of the Egyptians with the Nubians, Greeks, and other African/Arab/European groups.
I think it's awesome they found another tomb. It will allow us to enjoy their craftwork, iconography, as they meant it to be.

can you post your DNA and other scientific analysis to back your claim that modern egyptians have nothing to do with the ancient ones? you are confusing too many things here. egyptians are egyptians.

| Egyptian tomb Uncovered Posted: 3/7/2006 4:06:55 PM | I dont understand why we should put blame on a country inwhich people have very little. How would it feel if at one point your civilization and culture was thriving and the next it is struggling to survive.. We can not blame the egyptians for not welcoming the western world after all we have done nothing to help them in any way.. They were once a proud and honerable race.. they should not be treated with such discrimination.. I to have been to egypt and I found that they were very friendly and did nothing to anger or diswade tourists.. they thrive on tourism.. there are many poor families who beg or sell home-made crafts to tourists inorder to make some money. granted there may be a few who may hate tourists but who doesnt at times... If you looked beyond what you know, there is great beauty in the cities and people. I also believe that the continual study of the artifacts should precede but also we should respect the culture and community it is coming from. Also the relics should stay where they are found.. why should they lose their past inorder for others to see them.. in todays modern age you can view many artifacts without leaving home.
just may two cents in the matter.

They pretend to be friendly but actually not. This is old middle eastern trick. They say, "i love you" to all women and try to touch. They are trying to touch little girls too.
However they understand that this is prohibited. When i sad "Don't touch her", i immediately get angry-scared green "No, no! She is my sister!".. When you ride the taxi and agreed about price, they always try to cheat like “but I sad 10 dolla, not 2 dolla!” This is disgusting.
Also you are Canadian. If you are from the US then they don't like you. All Americans B.S. Egyptians like "I’m from England or Canadia or etc..."

| Egyptian tomb Uncovered Posted: 3/9/2006 9:15:46 AM | jmix, you can say anything you want but the pyramids were not built by your ancestors
I suggest you stop travelling to foreign countries. you have too much hatred and ignorance in you to see what others contributed to human civilization.

| Egyptian tomb Uncovered Posted: 3/9/2006 9:22:21 AM | Ownership is usually left with whatever gov't controls the lands at the time. Not always...but in most cases. So...the Egyptians DO have the rights to it. This is NOT supported in North America. So...the current "Egyptians" are the ones who will deal with this discovery. Doesn't matter what their ancestry is.
I wonder what they will be finding? I once got to hold a mummified hand in the Toronto museum once. Kind of felt like a stick of wood. But to think that the hand once was attached to a living breathing human being, who used that hand in everyday life....amazing. It crossed hundreds of years...if only it could talk, huh?
Anyways....It seems to me it doesn't matter where you go in the world, we seem to think the "locals" are the ignorant ones, when usually it is the tourists. They disregard local customs and laws then scream "foul" when they get caught out on it. some go so far as to perform acts which may be illegal in their own country, but legal there (or at least not prosecuted), and expect to be thanked for it, or allowed to do it anyways! (A prime example is the "sex tours" in certain areas. Anything goes...for a price.) In Canada, this is being fought through the courts. If they break their home countries laws, they can be prosecuted for it at home. An example is sex with minors. Some places, it isn't considered a crime, and some tour organizations profit from making up these excursions for their specialized cliental list. Canada is attempting to put a stop to this, but I cannot actually see it happening. Violating your own countries laws outside of the country is NOT violating said law. It would basically make each individual "property of the state", or "a part OF the state"...which is NOT a good thing.
