Posted: 2/16/2006 1:32:40 PM | Hey, I recently met somone over the internet, now im a young guy in a new place with not alot of young ppl running around town very often. I consider my self average size, i don't want to be fat and stinky. This 20yr old girl, I met recently from a neighboring community really embellished about her figure, she said athletic - she was 6'1 and 300 pounds, and stunk hadcore like body odour. It was gross, she was gross, and her pic on this plentyoffish here, was atleast 5 yrs old, it was horrible, i ditched out, but the smell alot still haunts my dreams. Why can't ppl just be honest and straight foreward????? I have a beer belly, im not gonna hide that from anybody, although i'd have to lift my shirt for u to see it, have you ever had one of these scary encounters....................holy, im just grossed right out.  | |

gross and nasty not only physically but in every other way too.
best I can tell you is on the dating sites......
think of them as going to a bar... looking at a profile= 10 beers because that is how clear the correct impression or reality of it would be, like you just had 10 beers... in a row.
As I see it, the internet dating sites are a haven for those who are undateable... where they can come and be anyone they want.
it kinda sucks
no more meeting people from the internet for me.... but I do like the POF forums... it is nice because you sometimes find cool people to discuss things with that bring you insight.
POF forums are great. Many other sites have now copied the forum idea. | |

Meeting someone who says, and photo shows, that they are 5ft 5 and slim and curvy. who then turns out to be 4ft 5 and 300 pounds and has warts is everyones fear about the whole internet dating thing.

getting lied to about looks is shitty yes, I would assume. I've never been in that situation. WEBCAMS ARE GREAT! Granted they do not give 100% accurate projection of the person, but at least you can tell that the person in the photo is the actual person.
Getting lied to about interests would also suck. People often lie about their interests to seem/appear more interesting. But the charade ends when you meet the person and they discover the real, boring you. Not only does the charade end, so does contact between the two parties.
I just do not see a point in lying on these sites. For the most part, people join these sites to meet other people, so why would you want to lie about yourself in order to meet people? It just does not make sense to me at all. | |

Posted: 2/25/2006 12:45:24 AM | I don't know what's up with liars of this type. If you lie in the internet to live a fantasy, then you don't meet in real life. What's the point of saying your are 'gorgeous' when you know that the minute the person sees you, all will be revealed?
I had my little share of experience with guys I met on line. Either they had photos in their profiles, or they emailed me privately. I don't know. Something must have happened to this guys in the couple of weeks before we actually met, because they looked 10 years older than the pictures they had sent me a couple of weeks before. And they did sound sincere when describing their fitness programs... Oh well, if one can fake sincerity, one can fake anything (House episode).
Have fun, but be ready for surprises

Be careful of things that seem too good to be true...
Be careful of someone who won't webcam with you..
Be careful of what they say their bodytype is... as it is their perception.... not yours...
Be sure that the reason you want to meet someone is not based solely on the pics...
Be sure that there is more to someone that what you read in the profile...
Never assume that everyones motivations are pure...
Take time to know someone and see what their feelings are on their looks... ask how prior meetings went... if the still communicate with the others...
if there haven't been prior meetings be leary as they may be internet chatters but not meeters... | |

In this day and age it shouldn't be too difficult to come up with a decent picture and representaion of what you look like. I've been divorced for 6 years, have tried this online dating off and on since and still see some profiles with the exact same pictures from 6 years ago, some obvious scans of their drivers license.
I'm not the best looking guy in the world and have been told many times I look better in person, and sometimes not, LOL. But I put up a new picture every couple of months regardless, it's only fair.
I dated a woman a couple years ago, it didn't work obviously and she was better looking in person than the pic she had on her profile. But I ran across her not too long ago online and she still had the same pic in her profile. I actually e-mailed her and told her she was better looking in person but also told her to get a new pic. I'm sure she read my message but 6 months later the same pic is still there, and it's at laeast 2 years old if not older. | |

Posted: 6/24/2007 5:48:08 PM | Gotta love the internet. Where a guy puts "athletic" and he's actually got a beer gut and is clearly overweight. Where "average" actually means obese... Where a "recent" picture is 6 years old... Yep, liars are abound.
Do your due diligence to weed them out: ask for lots of pictures-- make sure at least one of them is a recent full length shot with nothing obsuring their stomach. Be weary of profiles with only one picture or no pictures. Ask them to take a new picture with a time/date stamp. Ask to see them on a webcam. That's about all you can do to see if they're overweight/lying about their weight/looks.
If they hesitate, can't produce more pics, can't produce recent pics or can't get on a webcam then I highly suggest you think twice about meeting them. | |
