know how come?

I met him and his good looks faded quickly.
He was whiney... he did not have good communication skills..... he was moody
he was also shorter than he said he was... and his picture must have been at least 5 years
old or more. He was much larger in person and I don't know how he could say he was fit or athletic... he was just large and round...
and went from a 10 on his personal ad profile to a 1 in real life.
I only give him a 1 because he had pretty eyes. His attitude and personality were "dark"
and he just wasn't right.
He reeked of mental illness and beer.... he just reeked of darkness in his soul.
oh well. Anyone else have this experience of meeting someone ? | |

Posted: 2/19/2006 8:08:12 AM | Umm, it seems to be a part of this online dating thing.. Always be ready for the "unexpected". It's happened to me more times than I care to say. Which is why I always drive myself somewhere and only meet in a public place (easier to bow out gracefully that way)... It's frustrating, I know. But--I have to say that I've also met quite a few guys who are NOT like that and who actually look like their pictures. Don't give up just yet~ | |

Posted: 2/19/2006 8:19:40 AM | Umm1 ... I had almost the EXACT experience (except for the reeking of mental illness and beer).
I had chatted briefly with someone I thought looked very sexy in his pic. He was very nice to chat with and we decided to meet after only a few chats. He looked very strong and athletic in his pic.
When we met ... he was anything but. He was over 300 lbs. and did not look as handsome in real life as his pic. I'm thinking now that his pic must also have been several years old.
However, we did have a good date in that we talked well and had similar views on things.
In fact, we dated for several weeks after. It didn't work out in the end ... but it wasn't because of his looks or his misrepresentation of his body type.
Overall, I find most people look better in real person than their pic. This was the only instance I've had yet of it being the opposite.
So don't be discouraged ... you'll probably have more positive dates than negative ones. At least, that's been my experience. | |

I was in short term relationships with 2 of them, and although it didn't work out for one reason or another, I'm still friends with all of them......there really are some amazing people out there, don't lose hope! | |

Posted: 2/19/2006 8:20:49 AM |  Yea Ive met a few men like that as well. unbelieveable how they can be so different in person then they actually are in their profiles or portray them selves to be. its a shame. Why lie about what you look like or how your built , your likes dislikes etc... I guess that after they do their best to convince us that they are this terrific, sexy, careing, good personallity man etc.. that it wont matter once they finially meet us in person. its Sad, and such a waste of time.
But in all fairness I have men a few men who also are every bit of the person they portray on their profiles and and there were a couple who were actually better then their profile. so it works both ways. it may be shallow to most but I ask now " do you have a cam" that way there is no wondering.

Posted: 2/19/2006 8:21:49 AM | OH BIG TIME..He was hot and ready online..but when I met him????uh uh..not going to happen..he spent 3 YES 3 hours talking about himself and the people he met online...GOD>>>like a script he memorized...some of it may be real but some I think was faked....even when I met him..he looked good but..yes...this one was athletic, cute but when he went into his "SCRIPT"..I saw this glaze in his eyes...and the words spitting as fast as he can get them out...afterwards..I realize I was just practice..like a teacher going over his essay..he asked me how he did?..I just said...ok..and went to my car..
Too bad he could not be a real Ken..just playing..

Posted: 2/19/2006 9:13:24 AM | I had one guy who told me on the phone that he was 6'4" and 230 lbs and "carried it well". He turned out to be about 5'10" and over 300 lbs.
He actually waddled down my driveway when he came to pick me up......and to add insult to injury the first thing he did was try to stick his tongue in my ear!! I slapped his face, we continued the date, and had a very nice time. LOL. | |

Posted: 2/19/2006 9:13:44 AM | Happened to me too...I even questioned the guys pic cause the girl in it, well her hair looked kind of outdated...and he vehemently told me his pic was recent, only four months old. He said the only thing that was different was he had put on about 10lbs of 'holiday' weight, and wore a 'beard' cause it was winter and cold AND his 'tan' was now 'faded'....well OMG! Mr. "Most Eligible Bachelor of the Year" as he told me he was voted in Philadelphia mag, was overweight, graying, and completely NOTHING like his pic..I would have pegged the pic for being 10 yrs old, at least...Really pissed me off...make a long story short...after I politely emailed him to tell him (at his request) that I didn't feel the chemistry, the man sent me multiple, nasty emails calling me a shallow biitcch, self absorbed, conceited, blah, blah...almost started email stalking me!!!
Another time a 29 yr old lawyer (I should have known...lol...he was a lawyer) put a pic up of himself when he was 19..omg I was drooling over a 19 yr old, it almost felt like I was a child molester!! He admitted that to me when we actually met when I didnt' recognize him at the bar..I thought some stranger was hitting on me..I wasn't expecting someone in glasses!!
He wasn't ugly, fat, or anything, other than looked MUCH older..needless to say, we never went out again...
This is why I, put pics up that are recent...no greater than 3-4 months. I don't think it's fair to do that to people. (and in case anyone's is wondering..my pics are NOT professional shots, in the one, I just whited out the background cause my office was a mess) I have no problem with someone who chooses to put up their best picture, why would we put up our worst??? BUT to be blatantly dishonest, well that's just wrong...I don't like someone yanking my chain, or thinking ...."If I just get to meet her, I'll impress her with my great personality!!"
For those of us who play fair, and actually LOOK like our pics, it's deceitful, imho...and it's a deal breaker, even if you're not ugly, you essentially lie about yourself when you do that s**t!! | |

I think most of the men and women on here can hold there hands up to having had that sort of date and if they have not had one, all I can say is lucky lucky you!
False advertising seems to prevail on here but it's like a jumble sale you just have to keep on digging through the ones that are cast offs for a reason to find something you like! | |

There was one girl whom I am SURE wasn't even in the picture she had online - the difference was that striking. I've met women who listed 'average' on their profiles and were clearly overweight... women who have pictures posted that are 5 years old or more... This is what happens on the internet.
Out here in the cyberdesert - people think they can get away with whatever image they want you to have because they believe first impressions last. First impressions only really happen IRL... At least for me, anyway. | |
