| Musicmatch Jokebox issues Posted: 2/20/2006 4:14:43 PM | i am a computer illiterate. I was deleting some unwanted programs in my computer and ever since i did that, each time i go into musicmatch jukebox and try to play a song, up comes this window that says: The specified format is not supported or cannot be translated. Use the capabilities function to determine the supported formats. As far as i know i didn't delete anything to do with musicmatch, so i can't figure out what the problem is. Anyone have an idea as to what the problem may be besides me? | |

| Musicmatch Jokebox issues Posted: 2/20/2006 4:28:11 PM | | well this is definately an option, but would rather figure out what the problem is, and see if this can be rectified without having to re-install. | |
|
| Musicmatch Jokebox issues Posted: 2/20/2006 4:31:08 PM | ok, what I think happened was that one or more of the programs you deleted shared some files with music match. When you deleted them it prevents music match from functioning. I really think that you will have to reinstall, sorry.

|
| Musicmatch Jokebox issues Posted: 2/20/2006 6:50:32 PM | i was asking what the problem may be, as well as wanting to know what i could do about it. I am looking for ideas/suggestions. I have no idea where your head is at. I explained to the previous poster that i already know that re-installing musicmatch is an option, and if all else fails, then naturally i will have to do just that.

| Musicmatch Jokebox issues Posted: 2/20/2006 7:53:45 PM | | all I meant to say is that you can spend 3 days and still not figure out what went wrong whereas you can fix the problem by re-installing the program in 5 mn. so who cares about what really went wrong if you can get back on your feet in 5 mn. | |
|
| Musicmatch Jokebox issues Posted: 2/21/2006 7:11:55 AM | | ok i re-installed the software but now i am getting something that pops up stating that another application is outputting audio.Stop using this other application and then try play again. 4 | |

| Musicmatch Jokebox issues Posted: 2/21/2006 7:44:30 AM | if you have xp just do a system restore to a few days before you deleted those files go to, start..all programs..accessories..system tools..system restore..dates in bold can be restored to.. | |
|
| Musicmatch Jokebox issues Posted: 2/21/2006 12:12:24 PM | | yes i do have XP... if i do restore everything, don't you think this might corrupt anything in my computer? I just took out alot of junk that was taking up most of my hard drive, mainly so that i could download the software required for my digital camera. I didn't seem to have enough space left in my hard drive to do this without removing some programs. I don't know if restoring everything would be such a wise thing to do at this point in time. Is there any other way i can fix this problem? | |

| Musicmatch Jokebox issues Posted: 2/21/2006 12:20:32 PM | Ok I don't use music match. But I have in the past. One sugestion is have you gone in to the preference/option and check what files are set up for MM to read? also right click any of those music file MM could read at one time. Has it changed? is it still mp3 or is it now a wma or other? | |
|
| Musicmatch Jokebox issues Posted: 2/21/2006 12:28:08 PM | | restoreing will not corrupt anything i would restore to the point where everything worked, then i would take out things one at a time, making sure if it said a shared file when i clicked uninstall i would leave the shared file in, you can also restore forward again if you need to | |

| Musicmatch Jokebox issues Posted: 2/21/2006 12:33:32 PM | | if you have registry mechanic, you can run it. it may fix the problem for you. even if you have the trial version, it still helps. | |
|
| Musicmatch Jokebox issues Posted: 2/21/2006 12:35:14 PM | also have you emptied your temp folders and temperary internet folders recent folders , prefetch folder? if not these can be taking up a lot of room, if you are not comfortable doing this manually a good little program to do this is ccleaner, free and has no spyware, you can download it on line | |

| Musicmatch Jokebox issues Posted: 2/21/2006 12:40:02 PM | | another thought, do you have any chat programs running in the background,,msn? yahoo?look down by the clock see if they are there if so they may be grabing the sound card, try closing them (right click them by clock and close or exit) then try musicmatch again | |
|
| Musicmatch Jokebox issues Posted: 2/21/2006 12:40:15 PM | thank you for the suggestions people
i really do appreciate your input...

| Musicmatch Jokebox issues Posted: 2/21/2006 12:47:12 PM | | if some of your problems are with the opperating system, and you have your xp disk, go to start, run, type in sfc /scannow, this will check your windows files against your xp disk and if any are damaged it will fix them | |

| Musicmatch Jokebox issues Posted: 2/23/2006 12:58:10 PM | | i have just ran my registry repair pro in it's showing at least 500 problems with my computer, but this only repairs 15 problems out of the 500.. I am now upgrading to see if this might help. | |

| Musicmatch Jokebox issues Posted: 2/23/2006 11:41:37 PM | ok, so here's the situation....i upgraded my registry repair pro, ran a check and fixed all the registry problems in my computer but this didn't help. I am finding now that it's not just my music match that won't play, but i am also not getting any sound at all from my computer. I went into control panel, then into Sounds and Audio Devices properties, and it says at the top that there is no Audio device...i think that i may have uninstalled something important from my computer which is now preventing me from getting any sound at all. I was told that if i restore my system, this may cause more harm than good especially since i have just ran my registry repair. Does anyone here know what i should do now? Would really appreciate any input as i am getting a little frustrated here..lol

| Musicmatch Jokebox issues Posted: 2/23/2006 11:44:33 PM | | at this point in time it's not so much about a preference, although i will admit that i do like musicmatch and have been using it for several years but never came across a problem like this. | |
|
| Musicmatch Jokebox issues Posted: 2/24/2006 2:14:55 AM | The specified format is not supported or cannot be translated. Use the capabilities function to determine the supported formats. You are likely ...
1. Playing a format that Jukebox cannot render 2. Missing or corrupt Codec 3. Codec anti-piracy built-in Protections. 4. The Audio File itself is corrupt.
For instance, 'Musicmatch Jukebox' uses the licensed 'Fraunhofer IIS MPEG Layer-3 Codec (Pro)' and your Build may reject the GNU Licensed LAME MP3 from playing.
Locate the exact file that MMJ doesn't play. Then use MS Media Player or WinAMP and see how these do. If all is fine, then the problem lies with Codec rendering/limitations of MMJ.
Like many others here, I also suggest to stay clear of MMJ for Media Play. Its a gross System Resource Hog, the Graphic Interface requiring major CPU Juice.
The only Reason I ever use MMJ is for DivX MP3 Audio Track encoding, as many playback Systems such as WMP & PowerDVD have issues with the LAME MP3 codec and DivX 3/4/5x executed in unison. | |
