| Whistler Posted: 2/21/2006 3:48:29 PM | I am a snowboard fanatic and my dream has always been to ride the BC Rockies or Coastal Mountains. I had the opportunity when I found out a new girl I was seing has family in the Vancouver Area...I suddenly got super excited because the prospect of going to Whistler was actually within reach. Unfortunatly since her family live more then 3hrs (far south of Vancouver) from the hills it makes little sence to go for a week and drive 6+ hours everyday.
Basically I am wondering if there is any inexpensive way to go to Whistler? IE stay in a Hostle (if one exists). Basically the reason I can't go is because I am in the middle of getting my university degreee and I can only really afford to fly out there on a seat sale and pay for my food and lift tickets.
Does anyone have any suggestions or other "hidden gem ski resorts" I should look into.

Thanks I will check that out.
I am actually from Ontario Canada, which is fairly flat and i have not ventured more then 8 hours away to snowboard. Vermont and Quebec top my list. Which is why I am dying to get out west.

| Whistler Posted: 7/19/2007 9:47:58 AM | | I went to Whistler a few years ago with high expectations. At the time, I had gone to visit a friend in Vancouver. Luckily, my friend had another close friend who owned a house in Whistler village. Whistler exceeded my expectations! For anyone who loves skiing or snowboarding and have never been to Whistler, go now. | |

| Whistler Posted: 7/23/2007 8:11:06 PM | $75/day...and that was last year.
The problem with huge resorts is the time it takes to figure out the best places to ski/ride. It can take a day or two, easy....and that's without finding the hidden gems. I skied Jasper for many years...thought I knew it inside-out....yet just last year found new lines of fresh pow....and it hadn't snowed in weeks!
Powder King....north of Prince George....small....not too extreme....but the dumps are huge! (1.5 metres in four days once)
Fernie, BC...tons of steep stuff, and the snow to go with it (sometimes literally!)
Red Mountain....Rossland, BC....more tree skiing than cut runs....helmets are very popular there! (5 metre settled snow pack in March the two years I was there)
Sunshine...near Banff, AB....better snow than Lake Louise...
Whitewater...Nelson, BC....WH2O....need I say more?
There are many volunteer operations around....just open on weekends....if your timing's right....the pow can be huge!

Plus it offers a great view of the Georgia Straight.
And it has enough back-country to keep one busy for weeks.
