Oh I absolutely hate it. The smell, the look, the spitting, the coughing. I've dated a lot of smokers and it's unpleasant. It's an absolute turn-off for me. But that's just me.

I dated a smoker once. At first he was very considerate, didn't smoke in the house, the car when I was with him, etc. As he got more comfortable in the relationship those manners starting slipping. Next thing I knew he was puffing in bed and expecting to have sex right afterwards! Would I date a smoker again - NO!

With all do respect, i think thats kinda shallow that all of u are judging someone based on a habit. Smoking is bad, dont get me wrong. But it dosen't make one a bad person, why dont u give that person a chance, open ur minds more.. ya know. More to life than just a perfect person

I've dated a few smokers in the past. I don't like the smell of smoke. Can't stand it one bit, and I actually get sick from it. So it is a turn off.... but if they dont' smell like it or taste like it when I kiss them, that's fine.

It has to be. I am on the reverse side of the coin once. I used to socially smoke. I didnt smoke all the time, sometimes weeks without even one but when out I would have one with a drink. Went on a date over a year ago with a guy who really liked me, I didnt smoke at all. didnt for a whole week then he was meeting me and I was already out with friends and had one, count it, 1 cigarette, before he even arrived. He didnt want to date me after that. Even though I told him I had one, only like every couple of weeks if that.

Ok that was a bit extreme, but I do understand his position and even back then I didnt like dating smokers at all. However since I never had another cigarette around him I would have thought he might have given the dating another go. I didnt lose sleep over it, but I was surprised that someone could be that 'die hard' about. I have always stopped smoking when with partners. But yes it definitely happens. I dont smoke now .... had to accept it ruins dating chances.... [amongst other things]

So answer is yes , people do.

This is the very first thing I check for when contacted or thinking of initiating something with an available women---it's my deal killer I guess. Crystalise's point above is somewhat remineniscent of many many people who smoke--no matter the frequency. (I'm NOT bashing her---just using her comments for illustration!!)

Smokers seem to forget the time when they didn't which I think is one problem. The way they taste when kissing, the foul air they produce all contribute to a non-smokers dislike of them. For now we'll bypass "smokers rights" since (thank god) we're not on that---just yet!! Despite the myriad health risks and what they claim is an unbeatable addiction most persist and never quit--most wil admit they don't want to. That's fine---I left-handily admire them for at least sticking with something!!

As a non-smoking male I've always view women who smoke as people who are defiling a great work of art. When I see a woman who is attrative TO ME light one up or I get a whiff of that oder they carry on them it's one of the biggest let downs ever!

The other down side to dating one of "them" is that horrendous morning breath. What they inhale collects in their lungs and no amount of mouth wash or tooth brushing can ever stop that smell from leaking out even though they're not smoking at the time. For the most part the act itself is no where nearly as bad as that after effect.

Crystalise brings up something interesting though---that to some it should be or is about the frequency and not the fact it's a habit. Many many times I've been contacted by smokers and when I politely tell them why I'm not interested I've been blasted for over looking what a wonderful person they are. I had never insulted them, their personalities or anything else about them other than this single fact---but that was lost. The post about her mate that was courteous at the beginning but soon relaxed that is also typical---and one reason why I avoid those who have an answer other that "No" for this question.

I don't think we're bashing smokers in this thread---but those who don't smoke tend to not want to date someone who does. In general, not everyone is the same and it's different for each---my point being some don't!!

Now where's that Gold Digger and her "men should pay" thread.....................???? LOL

as a smoker hun I can tell u there is nothing seductive/sexy about smoking and those who think that there is something that attractive about it are stuck back in the 20's when it was deemed sultry. At the end of the day it is just another addiction.

It's funny really I seem to date ppl who don't smoke and I don't like kissing them if I've just had a cig. In restaurants I sit in non smoking areas, I smoke outside at home and change my clothes/wash my hair everyday so I don't smell of stale fags.

Occasional...that's Ok with me. I have an occasional cigar myself, but I don't smoke cigarettes. Anything can be overdone. That's when it's bad.

I tried dating a smoker lasted a whole week always had a sore throat hated it. Most everyone in my family smokes but me and my father. My father smoked cigars till i was born and quit. Your lug capacity increases 11 percent after the first month of a person that quits. I think it is funny when a smoker quits and then they have to smell their house meaning there old clothes their drapes. Even have to repaint the white drywall ceiling and wash the windows. There can be worse things in life in another person. And no the people that smoke are not bad people but who wants to deal with it. Its by everyones own personal choice. And it is just a nasty habit. A dumb pathetic addiction. Who wants to smoke rat poision and it is more toxic to second hand smokers than the person smoking. I swear if everyone out there quit the states out there would go bankrupt look at how many taxes come from it. It really is quite astonishing. Even John Wayne said on his death bed to everyone on tv to never start.

I won't kiss a smoker, but I am amazed at how many pics chicks post with a cigarette in their mouth! That is so ugly! She can be beautiful but when you see that cig, yuck.

well being an off again and on again smoker myself I will say this

I don't get turned off my smoking but if I'm dating someone that says hey butt out or I leave I'd say there's the door don't let it hit you on the way out..

Why? you may ask...is smoking worth more to me then a realationship with someone? the answer being no. but who ever I was dating would know first off that I smoked and I refuse to go into realationship where a person trys to change me. Quitting smoking isn't easy for everyone its like any other addiction if your turned off by it hey thats your perogitive but don't be judgemental about it. My moto is until you lived it, you don't know the half of it.

Not a fan at all.

The ocassional cig while out socially drinking doesn't bother me that much, actually I think a woman smoking a Cigar once in a while is HOT!

However a regular smoker is not cool, I can't see myself getting with someone who is slowly killing themselves.

I find smokers disgusting. I'd personally never date a chick that smoked, it's just not for me. Then again, I wouldn't date a girl that drinks all the time either.

I'd rather not kiss an ashtray. Though, I suppose it would be better than not kissing anyone at all, as I have been doing for the past 17 odd years.

I am a smoker and I find smoke discusting..but it's an addiction and I can't quit, I've tried many times over. It has never affected my dating however, I was in long term relationships with non smokers, it didn't seem to bother them much. Besides it's better for mankind if I don't quit, I turn into a raging ****...well a bigger raging ****..

ah, this is such an ISSUE! really.
i have been smoking since 12yrs old-and, no...not the occasional
'sneaky one'-a full on pack a day, since 12.
i have quit for years at a time-didnt smoke when pregnant or nursing, etc.
i KNOW what a ridiculous, FILTHY habit it is, am so disappointed with my
failures to KICK.
I even smoke zee SKINNIEST cig available cuz it creates the smallest lil stream of smoke
(no 'billowing')
HOWEVER, if i havent quit for the sake of my children? well, DATING isnt gonna influence
moi. if/when i 'kick'...twill be for ME.
i COMPLETELY understand one NOT wanting to be around the nasty stuff-i sure wouldnt.
if yer a NONsmoker-it is ABSOLUTELY logicle, not at ALL 'picky' to forego dating a SMOKER

So by that logic I guess I should give a crack addict or and alcoholic a fair shake too right? I mean, nobody's perfect right?

There's no such thing as a perfect person, smoking or not smoking doesn't make a difference in that regard, we all have our faults... However we already have enough without voluntarily adding on others (at least I know I do... ).

Every addiction begins with a choice at some point: maybe when you were young and reckless (i.e. a teenager like most smokers start out), but a choice was still made between living clean and willingly enslaving yourself to a carginogenic substance. It is that choice that speaks to me most when I am considering a potential date.

Do I cry when I see a beautiful woman smoking? Of course, I think to myself "what a waste"... Will it stop me from dating her? Only in the long term - I'll gladly date a hot woman that smokes in the short term (provided I have plenty of mints available ), have some fun, but she was automatically downgraded from potential life partner to short-term fling the second I saw her light up.

The reason why is I have dedicated my life to physical fitness, which is all about attaining harmony with one's body. Self-destructive vices like alcoholism, smoking and drugs are the antithesis of that ideal and I could never marry someone like that. I want a woman that can maintain her health so we can both be healthy together as long as possible.
