Well every year they have a contender and every year they disappoint. This year will be no different but a third place finish in the NL East is where I think they will wind up. I would be surprise if they even take second, but that whole division is good. Every single team finished at 500 or better.

Apparently the Mets didn't learn from the Yankees' mistakes last year.

It's not who you have, it's how they fit in together.

And what in the world are they doing trading Benson? Are they trying to screw this up?

Mets finish 2nd behind you know who this year.

Ya I think they will be exciting... especially if Delgado and Beltran have good years. Who knows how Pedro will be...but if he's on who knows what will happen.

Love to be optimistic and put them in first especially with Wagner closing..but those damn you-know-whos always seem to find a way.

so sad about Florida's fire sale #2

I can't go against Atlanta until someone actually puts them out.

The Braves still have the deeper rotation with Smoltz/Hudson/Sosa as the top 3. Mazzone or not, these guys lived his philosophy last year, and I think McDowell's arrival won't hurt.

The offenses are about the same. You have Lo Duca/Delgado/Beltran while the Braves have C. Jones/A. Jones/Francoeur.

New York has the better bullpen, no doubt. Atlanta flubbed on the closer's role this offseason, and will probably put Reitsma or Devine out there (both unproven at that position).

When it's all said and done, it's about the health...... Well, Atlanta was the unhealthiest of all last year in the N.L. East, but the rookies came in and bailed them out big time. It's about who stays healthy and who is deeper.

Right now, here's how I pick it:

1. Atlanta
2. New York
3. Philadelphia
4. Washington
5. Florida (surprised? haha).

One thing that I think about is that the Braves had such a long consecutive division winning streak that it is almost mind boggling.

To think that I was in grade 5, and things were so different then, and now I'm 25 and it's just amazing if you think about it.

Many of the people that now are in their 40's were in the late 20's or mid 20's and in just graduating from college and so forth when the Braves STARTED this streak. I think " New kids of the Block" were still a popular band then in 1991, and just if you think about how so many thing were different back then compared to now and to think that FINALLY THISYEAR was the year that the Braves were kicked out of the post season and being division champions, not just getting to the post season but being DIVISION CHAMPS THE WHOLE TIME, it is amazing what they accomplished and I do feel bad for them that for all of that they only had one world series championship to show for it.

What is even more ironic is that the team they beat in the world series in 1995, was the heavy favourite to beat the Braves. Remember the Cleveland Indians that year seemed unstoppable and guys like Albert Belle, Eddy Murray, Kenny Loften, Jim Thome, Carlos Bierga Omar Vizquel and on fire that year, and they were the big favourites to win, but the Braves won against them. But most of the teams that the Braves lost to , it was the BRAVES that were the heavy favourite to win and yet they didn't.

Baseball is a weird game.

Ratero, I live in NE Ohio, so I still feel the pain of that World Series loss, however the 97' Series was a tougher one to take....and the reason the Braves won in 95', they had that crazy pitching staff of Maddux, Smoltz, Glavine, Avery, Wohlers in the bully, just sick! While we had Charles Nagy, Dennis Martinez who was older than dirt at the time, Orel Hershisher who was past his prime. They had the much better pitching. That always seems to be the case, the team with the better pitching beats the team with the better hitting. It still holds true today, with the Tigers pitching staff shutting down the Yankees lineup. It is all about pitching, pitching, pitching!
