| Bob Dylan... Posted: 2/24/2006 8:06:06 PM | I am proud to consider myself a huge Bob Dylan fan, I believe he is one of the greats, I believe he is the greatest artist. I have searched for and downloaded every single Dylan song, among my favirotes you have Mississippi , Shelter From The Storm, Visions of Joanna, who am I kidding I love every Dylan song.
Some people criticize him and I just dont get it, I would say his music speaks to me, speaks to everyone. I was just looking for some feedback, maybe get a real good Bob Dylan convo going on.

| Bob Dylan... Posted: 2/25/2006 11:35:44 AM | | Love Dylan myself....took me years to realize this , but when I did, I really did and it hasn't gone away. The funny thing with Dylan is how people say he totally can't sing...but it truly is part of the charm he has. It's not how he says it, it's what he says...and also, at the same time, ...it's not what he says, it's how he says it! As for albums, I like the Freewheelin' album right now, but that changes regularly! | |
|
| Bob Dylan... Posted: 2/25/2006 12:28:30 PM | he is an incredible songwriter. I have to admit that I seem to prefer his songs when other people cover them though, but he is still one of my favs. Seen him live 5 times, and hope to see him many more.
Actually as I type this I have Tangled up In Blue on in the disc player
|
| Bob Dylan... Posted: 2/25/2006 5:31:16 PM | Dylan just has a way about him. I also agree totally that is not just what he says but how he says it. I have always been a huge fan but the last few years I have really been crazy about it. I have now every song and every duet he has ever done, live and recorded.
He is The great.

| Bob Dylan... Posted: 2/25/2006 6:45:24 PM | Robert Zimmerman is one of the pioneers from the 60s. I tend to like his 60s rep a lot more then his 70s. He seemed to get caught up started to experiment and "all great musicians do" well it just did not do it for me.
Bowie on the other hand seemed to be able to change and evolve with more flow. He knew when NOT to put out an album for the sake of a label

| Bob Dylan... Posted: 2/26/2006 7:53:02 AM | Zimmerman / Dylan will be at the New Orleans Jazz Festival this April. It should be a pretty phenomenal event. I especially hope to be there when Fats Domino first manipulates the keys. It will be joyously emotional.
But back to Dylan. I used to like him in the 60's. Then I got cool on him. But when I saw the PBS documentary on him a few months ago, I realized what a cool guy he is. He steadfastly refuses to be defined into the definitions of those who want to "force" him to be in their camp. And he steadfastly finds it entertaining that people put him on a pedestal. Like he said, with a laugh " I just always wanted to be a song and dance man." He has levity.

| Bob Dylan... Posted: 2/27/2006 6:52:22 PM | Tangled up in blue is a great song.
Its the rare ones, the ones that were never too famous that are really, really great. "Bob Dylan's Dream" is a great one, "Born in time" is another. The list just goes on and on. I mean when he was in "The Band" , Oh My God, talk about goosebumps.

| Bob Dylan... Posted: 2/28/2006 4:59:01 PM | Speaking of "Tangled up in Blue": in that song, Dylan says something about "Delacroix", I think in relation to New Orleans. Well, the town/village of Delacroix probably WAS about 20 miles SE of NOLA. I have not heard specifically, but I imagine it was all but wiped out. | |
|
| Bob Dylan... Posted: 2/28/2006 7:33:02 PM | The verse is...
I had a job in the great north woods Working as a cook for a spell But I never did like it all that much And one day the ax just fell. So I drifted down to New Orleans Where I happened to be employed Workin' for a while on a fishin' boat Right outside of Delacroix. But all the while I was alone The past was close behind, I seen a lot of women But she never escaped my mind, and I just grew Tangled up in blue.
Thought you'd like to see it.

| Bob Dylan... Posted: 2/28/2006 8:31:39 PM | Had a guy a few years back who would only play Bobby's songs. I always had a thing for that cute little jewish boy...and I loved his songs. I've got two fun stories connected to him I thought you'd appreiciate. The guy I used to be with took that song "Tangled up in Blue" and changed the lyrics to "Tangled up in You". He only shared the lyrics with his best friend (he had a shy side) but he did share one with me...had something to do " and when she got outta my bed she had her bra wrapped around my shoe"
When he got the grammy, my guy and I didn't have good reception for our tv (to far into the hills of Oregon) but I had a job in town and one of my coworkers recorded the show for me to gift him with. I was a nurse on the evening shift and one of my older pts put on her light and asked for her nurse to come in and do a very private proceedure...she called me in so I could watch Bob get his grammy...(Who Was That Weirdo???) My guy asked what the girls at work had to say about Bob. I told him one CNA asked me if he still had it. I said, yeah that sassy little wiggle in his butt was still there. My guy thought that was terrible to talk about his hero that way. I told him not to worry, I was sure Bobby wouldn't mind:
So, that was then and this is now...I managed to leave still loving Dylans music and I left the tape of the grammy's with the ex.

| Bob Dylan... Posted: 3/1/2006 3:24:25 PM | YES!
This my thread. I knew I'd find one at some point.
Anyway my favorite Album has to be Highway 61.
And favorite tune at the mo has to be: Tombstone Blues. I just love it.
I never used to like Bob Dylan but the stuff just grew on me and now I have ten albums and growing slowly. The only people in my collection who come near ten CD's are public enemy with 7.
There are some tunes I don't like though. Blonde on Blonde has to be a pretty poor album apart from the standouts.
Im suprised Bob Dylan is still alive. He was in the UK not too long ago but it was about £125 a ticket!

| Bob Dylan... Posted: 3/4/2006 4:31:19 PM | Mississippi was released in 2001 and I think it is a great song, here it is...
Mississippi - Bob Dylan
Every step of the way we walk the line Your days are numbered, so are mine Time is pilin' up, we struggle and we scrape We're all boxed in, nowhere to escape
City's just a jungle, more games to play Trapped in the heart of it, trying to get away I was raised in the country, I been workin' in the town I been in trouble ever since I set my suitcase down
Got nothing for you, I had nothing before Don't even have anything for myself anymore Sky full of fire, pain pourin' down Nothing you can sell me, I'll see you around
All my powers of expression and thoughts so sublime Could never do you justice in reason or rhyme Only one thing I did wrong Stayed in Mississippi a day too long
Well, the devil's in the alley, mule's in the stall Say anything you wanna, I have heard it all I was thinkin' about the things that Rosie said I was dreaming I was sleeping in Rosie's bed
Walking through the leaves, falling from the trees Feeling like a stranger nobody sees So many things that we never will undo I know you're sorry, I'm sorry too
Some people will offer you their hand and some won't Last night I knew you, tonight I don't I need somethin' strong to distract my mind I'm gonna look at you 'til my eyes go blind
Well I got here following the southern star I crossed that river just to be where you are Only one thing I did wrong Stayed in Mississippi a day too long
Well my ship's been split to splinters and it's sinking fast I'm drownin' in the poison, got no future, got no past But my heart is not weary, it's light and it's free I've got nothin' but affection for all those who've sailed with me
Everybody movin' if they ain't already there Everybody got to move somewhere Stick with me baby, stick with me anyhow Things should start to get interesting right about now
My clothes are wet, tight on my skin Not as tight as the corner that I painted myself in I know that fortune is waitin' to be kind So give me your hand and say you'll be mine
Well, the emptiness is endless, cold as the clay You can always come back, but you can't come back all the way Only one thing I did wrong Stayed in Mississippi a day too long

| Bob Dylan... Posted: 3/4/2006 5:00:11 PM | I too am a big Dylan fan. Although, I've always prefered "Simple Twist Of Fate" from "Blood On The Tracks" to "Tangled Up In Blue". But, that's just me. And I concur Bob, "Highway 61"-"Tombstone Blues", awesome! How about, "It Takes A Lot To Laugh, It Takes A Train To Cry"? Great tunes indeed. For those that haven't seen them, there are some incredible visual documentaries about Dylan in the 60's. "Don't Look Back" - from the 1965 tour of the UK, the last acoustic tour he did. It's an official release and an essential for all Dylanites. "Eat The Document" - from the 1966 Dylan goes electric tour of the UK, follow up to Don't Look Back. Never actually officially released, but available on Ebay for a song. This is the greatest rock doc I've ever seen (and I've seen alot). Dylan himself actually edited it. it's a little tough to follow, if you don't know the circumstances surrounding the tour. But if you do, it's priceless. "No Direction Home" - the new Martin Scorcese directed bio-pic which runs over 3 hours. It chronicles his career from beginning up to the 66 tour. Amazingly, very little footage from the other 2 I mentioned is shown in this one. It's amazing how much footage there is and it's simply incredible! For the record, y'all should stop downloading and go get the actual albums (CD's, whatever) To just listen to Dylan is one thing. But to read the liner notes and hear the tracks in their proper order and check out the cool pics and all that, it can't be beat. Not to mention the quality. Like, listening to, "Bring It On Home" from start to finish is a just a great experience. I think I'm gonna go do that now actually. | |

| Bob Dylan... Posted: 3/19/2006 6:49:35 PM | Highway 61 for sure the whole freaking Album / CD
"the sun's not yellow its chicken".......funny just flat out funny!
The only thing is I'm sure I don't understand what the genious is saying for at least a quarter of it!
Nashville Skylines is pretty funky as well with the voice change but definately not his best..except for girl from the north country (?).

| Bob Dylan... Posted: 3/22/2006 6:40:26 PM | | Bob Dylan was asked what he thought of Jimi Hendrix covering his songs and he said it came as no surprize to him "because they were all his." | |
|
| Bob Dylan... Posted: 3/23/2006 8:27:32 AM | | He was also once asked why he only plays Jimi's version of "Watchtower" live. And he simple said, it was because it's better than his. | |
