do you take it as a traditional force of habit every sunday thing or like myself cant be rsed to cook something that takes hours 2 cook and 10mins to eat and mountains of washing up afterwards . is it the norm or is it a dying trend like fish and chips every friday nite ??

I think the deteriation in family values and the change in demographics re families means like most things of tradition in this fair isle of ours is sadly dying .

Quite happy for traditions to die off...about time we started living the life we wanted rather than the ones our ancestors did...as you say who wants to spend 2 hours cooking for 10 minutes eating and 30 minutes washing up...got better things to do with my time..like...umm posting on here

well it does seem pointless cooking for 1 perhaps some nice gal will invite me round to hers as long as its not to meet future in-laws :

I like the traditions, but don't think you should feel as if you have to cook a roast dinner on a sunday, just because it's the done thing to do.

If you want to cook great, if you don't that's fine too. There are too many people who do things to keep up appearances, than because they want to do them.

I don't think anyone who lives alone is in a good position to answer this really. Maybe thats why the Sunday dinner is going out of fashion, because more and more people are living alone and as you all say, it's pretty pointless going to all that trouble for one person. Can't beat mashed potatoes with meat and gravy though, followed by apple pie and custard, but I just made do with a bannana. Mine wasn't dancing though

Thesunday dinner still probably is one of the best balanced meals around.

i dont hld with the notion its time consuming at all, takes only 10 mins to whack up the yoikshire pudding batter, and boil a kettlke and peel the onions for the gravy/

doing the vegetables takes no longer than it would anyhow

ias for taking 2 hours to cook - so what, you dont stare at the oven all the time, go and do some ironing, watch some tv, or have sex while you're waiting11

washing up, a doddle, couple of pans, or if you are really lazy use the dishwasher

Why wait til Sunday...Yum love a roast...No it doesn't have to take ages either...I like to start early prepare all my veg and most of it I steam so can do alot of it together...a chicken doesn't take too long to cook and neither do the roast spuds/parsnips and cauliflower cheese...I stick my timer on just so I don't forget to check it if I'm watching something on the telly and have myself a nice glass of wine or a cold beer....and I clean up as I go so there's never that much left to wash up anyway...

I dont just cook what we class as a Sunday lunch only on Sundays, I sometimes do one during the week also..

Sometimes its just as easy doing a roast during the week as it is cooking something else...

There's only me & my lad so we don't do Sunday dinner. Occasionally I do invite my mum round, then it's roast chicken & the works!

I hadn't bothered doing a proper sunday lunch for ages with there only being me and my son but had my mate and her daughter over last week for my sons birthday and decided to do a proper sunday lunch it was sooooo yummy I made one again this week and will probably do it again next week. It is worth the effort.

I make a fantastic roast dinner but don't bother because it's often just me on a Sunday.
