| teeth whiteners, do they work? Posted: 2/26/2006 8:34:15 AM | | I was just wondering if anyone has ever tried one of those over-the-counter teeth whiteners? I brush my teeth and floss regularly but my teeth just don't seem to get pearly white. I don't smoke but I do drink coffee and I know that doesn't help. Anyone have any suggestions? | |

| teeth whiteners, do they work? Posted: 2/26/2006 9:24:50 AM | | i used the crest strips (i'm a heavy coffee drinker & have good dental habits) and they most definately did work. they have been improved so i'm sure you would be happy with them. you just have to be consistent...actually i put them on before i left for work in am because i had a 25 minute commute to work anyway. however, the night product that you "painted" on was just stupid and didn't work at all. good luck | |

| teeth whiteners, do they work? Posted: 8/27/2006 2:02:41 PM | I've heard great feedback about the Crest Whitestrips and I've begun to use them myself. It's a bit too early to tell how well they work, but one of my friends used then and her teeth are noticeably white. Very nice, in my opinion.

| teeth whiteners, do they work? Posted: 8/27/2006 3:08:56 PM | | The Crest Platinum White Strips work really well. They were recommended by a few top dentists in my area. Teeth discoloration can be caused by a lot of factors (coffee stains, antibiotics, heredity, tooth deterioration, etc.) But, bottom line, when I used them I had instant results. Instant! Be sure to get the strips (Platinum) for maximum whitening. I have heard good things about following it with the Crest whitening rinse from my dentist too! And, my teeth are pearly white! :o) | |

| teeth whiteners, do they work? Posted: 8/28/2006 9:43:17 PM | | 95 percent is hogwash but if there is any you will have to use it the rest of your life just like diet pills and once your off its back to the same. | |

| teeth whiteners, do they work? Posted: 8/29/2006 3:33:09 PM | | I love the crest white strips, they've really brightened up my smile... BUT.. I've found that they don't stay as white as the company has promised. I end up buying them 2 or 3 times a year... Even though I use whitening toothpaste and mouthwash. But it's well worth it, I get lots of compliments on my pearly whites. | |

| teeth whiteners, do they work? Posted: 8/29/2006 3:37:33 PM | | simple whitener, and ohhhh sooo cheap, read the bottle, its safe to gargle and use as mouthwash , just dont swallow, swish in mouth for 10 minutes a day, also helps with canker sores from developing (if prone to them ) hydrogen pyroxide. Just cant be a sissy and spit too soon, lol, | |

| teeth whiteners, do they work? Posted: 2/28/2007 10:32:10 AM | I quit smoking.. and wanted to whiten my teeth. The Crest White Strips do work if you use them twice a day. They work fast as well! However be careful, your teeth will be a little sensitive to hot and cold. | |

| teeth whiteners, do they work? Posted: 1/4/2008 8:49:13 AM | | My son has used the whitening wells. Your teeth set in this for about 20 minutes. It whitened his teeth, but also cause alot of damage. His dentist said the instructions should say to brush and floss really well, before and after using the wells. He didnt, and the solution adhered to plague, and soaked into the enamel. about $2000.00 to repair the damage. | |

| teeth whiteners, do they work? Posted: 1/4/2008 11:11:52 AM | I'm a dentist and here's the lowdown:
Crest Whitestrips are indeed good. It uses carbamide peroxide (which is a slow releaser of Hydrogen Peroxide, the agent that actually does the bleaching).
Carbamide peroxide is good for bleaching natural tooth structure-- It actually penetrates through the enamel and oxidizes stains in the dentin to make the tooth whiter. Because it penetrates into the dentin, it will cause some irritation to the pulp (the nervous tissue) inside your tooth, which is why some people feel sensitivity after using it.
Carbamide peroxide bleaching will NOT work on fillings, crowns, veneers, or teeth with tetracycline (antibiotic) stains, and it is best to make sure you have no active tooth decay (cavities) before you use it. It will NOT work on surface stains either (like from smoking, coffee or tea)-- Those are best removed with a scaler/cavitron during your regular 6-month cleanings.
DO NOT OVERUSE!! If you bleach excessively, the carbamide peroxide will oxidize and destroy the collagen fibers holding your tooth together and cause the enamel to crumble. Follow the frequency instructions on the White Strip package carefully and if you feel bad sensitivity, don't use it as often.
Swishing raw 5% hydrogen peroxide does NOT help. It does not stay on a tooth long enough to penetrate into dentin. That's why a time-release formula like carbamide peroxide is better.
Hope this helps. | |

| teeth whiteners, do they work? Posted: 1/5/2008 8:15:50 PM | The Arm & Hammer whitening toothpaste really made a difference, but they're still not white. I went to see my dentist. She says she can do laser whitening, but that will cost about $1000, and it will come back in 6 months because of my smoking.
I would happily buy the Crest Whitestrips if they would work, but reading the above, I'm not so sure now. What does everyone recommend?

| teeth whiteners, do they work? Posted: 1/6/2008 4:49:04 AM | they only work on real teeth, not crowns or created teeth. If you have some the whitener will only work on the real teeth, making you have yellow and white teeth and the crowns will look yellow compared to the bleached teeth. Yes, they work. You should get a custom tray made at the dentsits to put the bleachin agent in.. or they will eat away at your gums. My teeth are perfect, straight, and pearly white. I get compliments on them everywhere I go. I drink coffee and smoke an occasional cigar
if your going to bleach, use the real thing, not some whitening toothpaste. go to overstock and buy a kit for 50 bucks... its fast and effective but if you have crowns, you should maybe not do this because the bleach won't work on those teeth and make you look silly to have some yellow and some white teeth

| teeth whiteners, do they work? Posted: 1/6/2008 10:10:37 AM | | ^^^ Thanks. I have all my own teeth. A few fillings, but that's all, and I don't have a problem with them not being affected. My teeth are in very good condition actually. It's just the colour. | |

| teeth whiteners, do they work? Posted: 1/7/2008 8:00:58 AM | Teeth are not naturally white. No ones'. You want to talk about 'ideals' created by the media(probably paid for by dentists or companies manufacturing tooth whiteners), that would be no.1. | |
|
| teeth whiteners, do they work? Posted: 1/13/2008 7:40:34 PM | | I remember using Crest White Strips a long time ago, and I remember them making my teeth super sensitive. I've always been partial to mouth trays and gel. I think oil pulling is more effective in whitening my teeth, but that's neither here nor there. | |

| teeth whiteners, do they work? Posted: 1/13/2008 8:18:19 PM | I found the crest whitestrips very fiddly, hard to keep in place, and only cover the front teeth. I have quite a wide smile and teeth show that the strips dont cover so it makes it more expensive for me since I really have to use two packs to get one treatment's worth. I also didnt notice much difference even after doing the whole course of strips. The only difference in the more expensive strips is the concentration, which the only thing that affects is the number of days it takes.
I just rinse with a water/hydrogen peroxide mixture after brushing and this keeps them white all over, not just the front ones.

| teeth whiteners, do they work? Posted: 5/25/2008 7:38:54 PM | Crest white strips rock!! I highly recommend them... just don't over do it. You don't want your teeth to glow. :) Besides, I think having white teeth just brings attention to your smile. I use Crest white strips maybe once every 18 months and they do wonders.
PS. I don't smoke or drink coffee or tea -- but I am a huge fan of Coke.

| teeth whiteners, do they work? Posted: 5/26/2008 10:33:53 PM | A true microbe killer (as opposed to perfumed mouthwash) is H2O2, hydrogen peroxide.
After mechanical cleaning, rinse two minutes with a capful or two of H2O2.
Not only wipes out the microbes, also contributes to whitening with the same oxidation/bleaching as expensive whiteners. H2O2 is very cheap in grocery stores.
Don't worry if you swallow a couple drops. It releases the extra O to become ... water.

| teeth whiteners, do they work? Posted: 10/26/2008 4:32:57 PM | | I think most of the whiteners work to a point, but I prefer the trays and gel. I eventually decided to have trays made by a dentist that actually fit my teeth, and they work even better. It doesn't cost that much, and for me it was well worth the investment. I said up front, "if you are going to tell me to stop drinking coffee and soda, forget it." The over the counter products are not as strong as what you get from the dentist, but basically the same ingredients. . . .so my dentist says. I do believe that those who already have sensitive teeth have trouble bleaching, but that is not my case. Once I got past the initial bleaching, I do not have to bleach often. . . .maybe once or twice a month. I've made no adjustments to what I eat and drink, so I feel the effort is minimal. I have something that I've never had before. . . . a beautiful smile. | |

| teeth whiteners, do they work? Posted: 10/30/2008 6:25:03 PM | I had my teeth professionally whitened. The dentist makes a mold of your teeth and from that he's able to create trays that fit your teeth perfectly. You just put the bleach in the trays and pop them in your mouth. I had to sleep with the trays in overnight for two weeks and I experienced pretty good results. Now for maintenance I just have to put the trays w/bleach in for one hour a month.
They can also use a laser to whiten you teeth. I'm not sure what the process is but it probably can't hurt to look into it if you're serious about whitening your teeth.
The problem with the Crest strips is that they only whiten the front of your teeth. Your teeth are slightly translucent so any stains on the back of your teeth will still show through to the front.
