| Aussie - Vegimite Posted: 3/2/2006 7:00:52 PM | In Uk it is known as Marmite..and it is available in Canada under that name
*grins* and my kids thought it looked like a chocolate spread the first time I bought some, sure gave them a shock when they tasted it...and they have refused to touch it ever since...LOL!

| Aussie - Vegimite Posted: 3/3/2006 5:50:17 AM | | Maybe it"s an uniquely Australian taste? | |
|
| Aussie - Vegimite Posted: 3/3/2006 8:16:35 AM | Marmite is wayyyyy yummier than Vegemite ( but probably depends on what one you started out on, Brit vs Aussie)
My faves...
- hot buttered toast and marmite - cheddar cheese and marmite sarnies - boiled egg and marmite soldiers

You guys go ahead, but I'll sit that one out. Certain things like that I can't imagine. I never knew what vegemite was, I thought it was part of the song, "He just smiled and gave me a vegemite sandwich, and he said, 'I come from the land down under'".
Anyway, there are some pretty nasty spreads here, too. Potted meat I can think of off the top of my head.

| Aussie - Vegimite Posted: 8/24/2007 6:28:31 AM | | No we get vegimite here across the Tasman too. Can't say I enjoy it as much as marmite but I'll spread it on my toast if there's no marmite on offer, speaking of which has anyone else noticed the difference between Aussie/Kiwi marmite and English marmite? to my taste buds at least the English stuff is way stronger! | |

| Aussie - Vegimite Posted: 8/24/2007 6:37:10 AM | We're happy little vegimites as bright as bright can be we all enjoy our vegimite for breakfast lunch and tea
It puts a rose in every cheek.....
It's a yeast extract and most people I have met that don't live in Australia think is is worse than eating worms....
It tastes nothing like marmite.....
But Tim Tams on the other hand.....

| Aussie - Vegemite Posted: 8/24/2007 4:22:17 PM | My daughter brought back a coffee cup, a T-shirt, and some vegimite for me. I still drink from the cup, still wear the shirt. As for the vegimite, I threw it out one day, and the next day there were three dead buzzards next to it. | |

| Aussie - Vegemite Posted: 8/24/2007 5:11:15 PM | | I guess it's like peanut butter is to Americans. Some people won't eat Spam, but other people almost live on it. I don't think I'd like Vegemite, just from what it's made of, kind of turns my stomach to even think about it. Like my daddy used to say "to each his own". | |
