Hey guys, I'm just out here to see if anyone has any interesting and inventive kraft dinner recipes. Personally I like to add some steak sauce to the mix. it adds a really nice spice to it. I also like to fry up some chicken, and boil some peas with it.

Just thought I'd see what's out there.

NOTE: This does not mean that the only thing I can cook is kraft dinner, I actually think I'm quite a good cook, I just thought it would be fun to see if there's a gourmet type meal out there that you can cook up using KD.

I like mine runny with lots of pepper, the rest of my household likes it sticky and cheesy. I add more milk to mine at the end.... Because they like it cheesy, I add more cheese. yum

Steal the sauce packet from another box and make it double cheesy.

Pitch the sauce packet, and give the elbows to your kids to make necklaces out of. Recycle the box, and then make your own with the following this recipe:

5 cups cooked pasta (shells, elbow or spiral)
4 tablespoons butter
4 tablespoons flour
1/4 teaspoon salt
1/8 pepper, or to taste
2 cups milk
3/4 cup shredded sharp Cheddar or Jack cheese
paprika and nutmeg optional

In saucepan melt butter over medium-low heat. Stir flour into the butter until smooth and bubbly. Stir in salt. Gradually add milk stirring constantly. Continue to cook, stirring until thickened.

Add cheese and continue to cook and stir until melted. In an 8x10-inch baking dish, alternate layers of macaroni and cheese sauce. Sprinkle with paprika and nutmeg if desired. Bake in a preheated 350° oven for 20 minutes, or until hot and gooey

You could do a breadcrumb thing if you wish. Nice touch.

This may be the only way I can ever use this stuff, make a great necklace. You can color it and glitter it if you like!

posts like this and the throw up post and the pregnant post have been started for people to participate in threads in this forum. Most of these people have no real cooking or recipes to share , but they want to be able to participate in cooking threads. I wish we shared more cooking recipes and boxes aren't cooking.

We desparately need new food topics. Ones that haven't been done before, no one searches anymore, they would rather start a thread.

kraft dinner, FUN?

um, i will only here admit to liking trader joe's white cheddar n mac.
but, it's still a frikken box.
i add salsa to it, sometimes ground turkey, but that was a looong time ago.
i think it's just as quick to actually cook with real food, and i feel better about what im ingesting.
even IF i haven't been cooking lately...

but people will post and many eat from boxes n cans.
they too have a place to expand their creativity and learn new ways to make food.
it just MAY start some cooking, az, ya never know...
OP states he can indeed cook, too, i didn't check any of his other posts.

*edit* ok, i peeked, he is young and seems new, (BUT ISN'T) so let him KD for all he is worth,
he just MAY cook for a young one he meets here, at least he is trying, and he seems open to learning about new ways around his kitchenette?
personally i can't see much "fun" from a box of KD with faux cheese, but to each their own...
dallas, good post.

I do mine baked in the oven with Velveeta, milk, flour, and cooked elbows. Especially yummy with chopped onions tossed in ... although meatlovers prefer leftover cooked chopped ham.

Velveeta

So, you don't use the box stuff at all? Why not real cheese? Sounds like you are using a variation of Steve's but without real cheese.

faux cheese rears it's fake head yet again.
az, some folks just like the convenience of fake i guess.

anyone tried to make mac n cheese with an unusual REAL cheese?
oh the possibilities...

my beloved manchego is too strong i fear.
but i'm gonna try something unusual after thinkin about it.
no faux cheese for softEDGE...

I make mac n' cheese from scratch occasionally, and I also eat KD. I love them both. Maybe it's because I associate it with my childhood - making a box and watching late saturday morning cartoons, eating it right out of the pot - I just like it now and then.

Everybody has their guilty pleasures....have to say I don't understand the subtle snobbery at work by those who look down their nose at people who eat KD - but it's true that making any food from scratch does provide a unique satisfaction that you can't get by cracking open a box.

And for the record, I am a KD purist - it's yummy all by itself. No spices, no salsa, no meat, no veggies, and most of all NO KETCHUP !!

have to say I don't understand the subtle snobbery at work by those who look down their nose at people who eat KD
because it's CHEMICALLY FAKE CHEESE is why i "look down my nose" at it, not the person eating it per se, but most surely at the faux cheese itself...

made from scratch is simple, takes hardly any more time, and is soo much better freshly baked, all hot n cheesy fresh from the oven with a nice crispy top.

sorry penguin, not meaning to stomp all over your thread, there are some regular snobs like myself that are just against the fake or velveeta. they can speak for themselves.

and pasta is so quick and so there are infinite possibilities for thinking/whipping up quick n easy ways to prepare a variety of sauces or toppings, i just cannot be convinced that a box is in any way better than a steaming plate of pasta with fresh herbs, garlic, butter, and olive oil, with grated fresh REAL cheese and fresh ground black pepper.

i dont have anything against anyone that eats KD's.... i personally dont like it... as when i have tired it.. it didnt seem to be cooked all the way thru... but maybe that is the way it was cooked i dont know.... my brother in-law loves it... but i dont hold that against him...

EDIT: however... i am a continental packet whore....lol... but i only use them for the savoury rices or my potato bake and beef strog of devilled snags when i dont have the time to cook and simmer them for 2-3 hours...lol... instead they are ready in 10mins -30mins
