My profile has evolved some in the time that I've been here, and I was wondering if I'm really off base with my profile.

"Who do you love" is from a Bo Diddley song (one of my favorites) and will probably be changed very soon.

the only off base thing that I noticed about your profile is your describing yourself as a BBW

maybe I'm wrong, but I always thought that meant "Big Beautiful Woman"

I see nothing wrong with it. I feel you gave a good description of yourself.

You're right about BBW, but I'm using the "Big & Tall" part, a common description for big guys.

Thanks for the replies.

Bump. As you can see, it's been awhile since I"ve had a review. I'm back after not participating on this forum for awhile.

I recently updated my profile, and I kinda like it. But, I'd appreciate some new reviews.

Thanks in advance!

For follwing POF rules and bumping your thread instead of strarting a new one, I give you kudos and a bump!

You look perhaps a few extra pounds at most...But, are you really 31??!! Your pictures do not reflect that, at all!

Yes, I'm really 31. I'll be 32 in less than 3 months, if that makes a difference.

No girl that looks at your profile is honestly going to think you are 31. They are going to think you are a 50+ year old married man who is trying to have an affair. That stupid black and white makes you look 80. That one for sure goes, unless you are trying to hit the grandaddy fetish appeal.

Oh my gosh, yeah. You look like Richard Attenborough from "Jurassic Park."

I have a somewhat strange/retro sense of style.

Yeah, no kidding. Well, you have very light blonde hair and a penchant for wearing old-fashioned clothes and hats. It's not doing you any favors. I'm going to advise you to consider getting a friend or female relative to take you out shopping to find more age-appropriate clothes, because the previous poster was right; I thought you were a 50-something guy. So avoid grandpa hats and bulky, shapeless clothes.

These days guys are experimenting with bleaching their hair blonde; for you, I'd say try something like making your hair a darker, golden blonde. It might take years off your look.

Your profile is somewhat dry. You speak of things you like and things you like to *do,* but risk nothing of yourself in telling us who you *are.* Describe yourself. You're the kind of guy who....does what?

And even a "long-term" profile needs a first date section -- use some creativity in coming up with an interesting scenario.

Could you explain this a little more? "I'm the kind of guy who: likes to have long conversations... listens to lots of music, likes to work on old houses,..." etc.?

BTW, I deleted the B/W picture. But, it was my rating picture, and was "playing well" with women in my age group.

I see you've gotten rid of the b&w 'grandpa' photo. The other 'hat' photo doesn't do much for you either. The general advice in the profile review section is to avoid baseball hat photos, but in your case such a photo may help present a bit more youthful image. Or perhaps even something like an Aussie-style bush hat might work nicely. Beyond that, you could try to make some consciously and deliberately radial or hip fashion choices (dressing as Neo or Morpheus would certainly help ;-).

Your profile might benefit from a bit more depth. You could add a bit more about who you are looking for. You've touched on a couple of community improvement activities; perhaps some more details there would help (for either 'about you' or 'about her' sections).

Did you deliberately remove the 'First Date' section?

Yes!! I could not think of who he reminded me of!

The body shot makes you look like a man in your fifties or sixties. I would remove that one. You look the youngest in the hard hat picture (maybe because of no facial hair)

You're not seeing anything in the first date area? I added a little blurb there. I figured it was better than nothing until I thought of something better.

I appreciate the advice everyone, but could always use more. I'm trying to portray myself as realistically as possible in my profile so there are no surprises in real life. Unless it's obvious I'm at a costume party, I don't want to dress up too much because that wouldn't be realistic. The full-body picture is what I'd look like on any fall or spring weekend. That is as "youthful" as I get.

I flip-flop on keeping the facial hair. It's hiding a faint double-chin.

Well, I'd still try a fashion makeover to get you into some younger looking togs. Maybe even experiement with some hair color.

As far as describing oneself, I always like to see examples that reveal something significant about the person, that give you an insight into their personality. Rather than reading, "I am warm, funny, down to earth, easy-going," etc., I prefer to see those "I'm the kind of guy who..." statements. It's a good place to start.

For instance; "I'm the kind of woman who doesn't dress up special to go to the supermarket. I'm the kind of woman who doesn't like to talk during films, because it interferes with submerging myself in the characters and plot. I'm the kind of woman who believes in the "commando" style of shopping -- get in, get out, and nobody gets hurt."

For me, those kinds of statements tell you far more about my personality than any list of adjectives, anything my friends might have said about me, or telling you that I like water polo, kayaking and checkers. See what I mean?

westsider, Wilford Brimley has called and he really wants his profile back.

A style update is in order. Listen to Ursula, she knows whereof she speaks.

OK, I get it. If I want to find true love, I can't wear an unusual hat.

I do appreciate some of the advice above, and will modify my profile text sometime in the near future.

Ursula, I tried coloring my hair about 12 years ago, and it didn't work. I went for a medium sandy-blonde kind of color, but my hair only looked dirty for a couple weeks.

i am not sure what advice to give you jon considering i spend my time pulling women in an elderly home, i managed to get a job there as a cleaner and if one of the ladies starts getting lonely I am always there for them and let me say, they think the service is pretty good.

Maybe you should do the same and then work your way down in ages until you find your happy medium.

Either or, good luck man

Sweetie, hair color has changed a LOT in the past decade or so. Be open to possibilities or change can never take place.

Or consider following the previous poster's advice and take a job in a nursing home. bring your own Pine-Sol.

OK, I updated my profile text and rearranged the pictures a little.

I've decided I'm not going to color my hair. While I'm not defined solely by the color of my hair, it is still one of my defining features. IMO, to try to color it is dishonest. If anyone isn't interested in me because of my hair color, then I wouldn't be interested in that person anyway.

If I get better pictures, I might lose the last hat picture. But that doesn't mean I'm going to stop wearing them in real life.

Fire away...

i think what people are trying to say in a nice way is that you look old in your pictures. The last picture is pretty good in the sense that you look like Simon Peg (an english comedian) though older looking and the others make you look like the age of 60.

It is not you, it is your pictures and how they are defined. you dont need to start wearing lip gloss or anything just pictures of you looking natural and relaxed and happy.

To want something you need to change something and better to do it now than a year down the line dis-heartened but i understand your point defo.

people will like you for you and how you look but first impressions are first impressions you need to get that connection in the first place to build on it and with so many fake men on pof you will probably just look like another fake statistic.

you are not ugly mate just the pics and age you say you are give off two different contrasts and will make a lot of women suss.

good luck anyway man i hope i'm wrong..
