| Metalica's SOME KIND OF MONSTER Documentary... Posted: 3/27/2005 6:36:15 PM | | Fagtallica should be in the Guinness Book of World records for being the biggest sell out in history. Kirk Fagmagnet should be shot and pissed on, Sars Ulrich should have his vocals cords removed with a rustyblunt instrumentfor all the bullsh*the speaks of and James Hetfag should be severelybeaten with a shovel. If Cliff Burton was still alive he would would have kicked all their asses into a comatose state for for being so stupid. | |

| Metalica's SOME KIND OF MONSTER Documentary... Posted: 12/4/2005 7:01:42 PM | Just bought this DVD and have spent most of the day watching it. Yup, it's long. The outtakes alone could have made another movie.
But I love it.....and I don't even get much into Metallica's music.
The film is engrossing in that it shows the human side of the band. You get to know each musician, warts and all. I think I would go insane if I had to spend hours and hours trapped in a small room with Lars!
The shrink they hired to help them deal with issues, certainly does look like he considers himself one of the band after awhile, refusing to exit when suggested that he is no longer needed.
The new bass player is very likable and is a perfect fit for the band.
I think I learned quite a bit of what it takes for these guys to be who they are. I certainly have a newfound respect for the hard work and luck that it takes.
This is an excellent film.

| Metalica's SOME KIND OF MONSTER Documentary... Posted: 12/5/2005 12:04:16 AM | Let me say that it was an excellent documentary... HOWEVER...
The scenes they chose to remove [We'll use the Dave Mustaine making Lars run out of the room crying for example] made them look like idiots, everything they left in had them keep some kind if integrity.
That, I do not agree with. As for it "being scripted", I only partially agree as you could tell in some scenes that the emotional outbursts looked like they've been doing it for a few hours to get it just right... =)

| Metalica's SOME KIND OF MONSTER Documentary... Posted: 12/5/2005 12:20:53 AM | I thought the one scene that made Lars look bad, was during the meeting where they were discussing the title of the album and Lars was getting excited about his terrible idea about calling it "Frantic".
I loved the look on the managers faces, when they paused and pointed out that MAYBE it wasn't such a good idea to call a Metallica album something that made them look indecisive and "frantic".
LOL, I loved that scene.
To me, it doesn't look so as much scripted, as words being carefully chosen. Lars was right when he got angry. (which was often) Way toooo much pyscho-babble speaky speaky.
"I feel......." "I feel....."
I feel like throwing up.

What in the hell did Dave do, that got him kicked out of the band in the first place? I heard that he was mean when drunk. I remember when Megadeth was on tour with Ted Nugent in the late 80's. They took an MTV crew along, and Dave hosted his own live half hour show. He was obviously wasted on much of it. Was Mustaine an ass, or what? I heard that he was drinking again, and the Megadeth bass player was trying to buy him out.

What Dave did, was that he was putting all his alcohol and drugs ahead of the band, and he took the "Rock N Roll" lifestyle to an all new extreme level. He would be so tanked that he'd almost be unable to play (but come'on.. its Dave.. hes a metal god). It got so bad that one night, when they were "partying", James, Lars and Cliff were drinking water out of vokda bottles, and watched Dave tank himself, and when Dave passed out, they tossed a buss pass on him grabbed their gear, and left him there. (real nice to do to a "friend").
As for him drinking currently, I'll say no he's not because I'll believe him when he says he's sober right now until he proves otherwise to me. As for Mr. Dave Ellfson (EX-Bassist of Megadeth) he recently tried suing Mustaine over a bunch of bull that if i recall, involved the intellectual properties of Megadeth, and ended up getting about $5000 or something out of it. Remember, what comes around, goes around.... Mustaine ended up suing Ellfson right back for using the Megadeth name to promote his new band.. =)
Gotta Love It. | |

| Metalica's SOME KIND OF MONSTER Documentary... Posted: 12/5/2005 9:59:18 AM | I liked the documentry, I hate the New Metallica ever since 1991, last album I liked was And Justice for all,
But after seeing the documentry I understand them better, they are just regular people like you and me, they have gotten older and slowed down a little, their rage factor is down, they got it all out in the first 5 albums.
I still would not buy one of their newer albums.
a real documentry! Cliff'em All!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

| Metalica's SOME KIND OF MONSTER Documentary... Posted: 12/5/2005 8:05:27 PM | Some Kind of Monster was an excellent film in my opinion. It showed people that behind the rock star personas, there are real people who can succumb to the same problems as we do. It was interesting to see what they went through. I learned from it. At the same time it did provide many funny moments. One moment that stood out for me was when James Hetfield returned from rehab and was playing guitar for the first time, I cried for sure during that part. Obviously there are going to be people who don't like the movie, and they have the right to. In my honest opinion this is a great movie to watch whether you are a fan or not. Funny sidenote, after watching it my cousin Tim got quite angry because he said that the band ate too much food throughout the course of the movie, that in turn made him go to McDonalds BEFORE he was supposed to go to a steak dinner. Funny stuff...
Two other Metallica-related films I will recommend are 'A Year and A Half In The Life of Metallica Part I and II.' and 'Classic Album's, Metallica's Black Album.' Both very good and available on dvd at HMV or Future Shop.

| Metalica's SOME KIND OF MONSTER Documentary... Posted: 12/5/2005 8:19:29 PM | After St. Anger i lost all respect for metallica, i wont even capitalize their name anymore. However, after watching that film, i did get some of that respect back. Lars is still a whiney little ****, and i dont appreciate the way they portrayed Dave Mustaine in the movie either, and i wish that James had been there for that as well. Great movie though. | |

| Metalica's SOME KIND OF MONSTER Documentary... Posted: 1/17/2008 2:54:41 PM | Maybe a bit too long but worth watching for the scene with Dave Mustaine sulking and the scene with Lars Ulrich playing a demo to his Dad Torben, asking him what he thinks of it and Torbens answer. | |

| Metalica's SOME KIND OF MONSTER Documentary... Posted: 1/17/2008 5:27:58 PM | "a real documentry! Cliff'em All!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!"
I was at the Detroit show (Footage was used in that)..and knew the dude who filmed it. Was a fan from "Ride The Lightning" (Was supposed to have seen them on that tour). Saw them every time they played Detroit from "Master Of Puppets" to "...And Justice For All". Have never seen the documentary.

| Metalica's SOME KIND OF MONSTER Documentary... Posted: 1/18/2008 3:28:36 AM | I think it was good - but I think the guys in Metallica have really let fame go to their heads. I mean here are four guys who have known each other for a long time, and now they need a shrink just so they should reach each other. If they can't work that shit out as friends, they should call it a day. I love Metallica but wasn't a fan of St. Anger. Not at all. | |

| Metalica's SOME KIND OF MONSTER Documentary... Posted: 1/18/2008 5:53:21 AM | That documentary was the biggest pile of self indulgent crap I have ever seen.
Futher to that, the album that the documentary was following the production of was lousy. A failed experiment by a band that should have known better.
It was a bit lame that a band that have made so much money and have had worldwide fame would need a therapist to come and guide them, which is pretty much what Jason says near the start.
Just a load of hype. There are many other bands that have been going as long that came out of the Thrash scene that are still making albums, some never split up, and they dont release this kind of rubbish.
