new TOOL album - 10 000 Days

please join me in celebration from learning that it is finally confirmed that the greatest band on the planet, TOOL will be releasing their long awaited (salivated over by hardcore fans...really) new full length album. T-minus 51 days and counting baby!!!

Album title - 10 000 Days

Release date (North America) - May 2nd, 2006.

Track listing:

1) Vicarious
2) Jambi
3) Wings For Marie (Pt 1)
4) 10,000 Days (Wings Pt 2)
5) The Pot
6) Lipan Conjuring
7) Lost Keys (Blame Hofmann)
8) Rosetta Stoned
9) Intension
10) Right In Two
11) Viginti Tres

Some reports say that the new single may be out by April 17th, this is not confirmed as of yet however...

Andy King (dj at totalrock.com) was fortunate to attend a listening party in London, England back in February. He had the following to say about the first two tracks:

Track 1 (7min 3sec). Mesmeric start. Hypnotic beat. Jagged, angular off beats.
Familiar trancey passages punctuated by a guitar part reminiscent of an older
Tool track. Tribal drum beats with a lovely melody and climax with
Maynard’s vocals. I am going to cry.

Track 2 (7min 12sec) Melodic intro with almost balladic vocals from Maynard.
Lighter feel (almost, dare I say it, APC-tinged) but not for long. Danny gets
stronger – Baresi releases our tubthumper and the feel gets much heavier into
‘chugga chugga’ off beats. Then – here’s some unusual guitar work. Man, it’s
almost Hendrix-like! Then back into a heavy tribal groove. I fight off the urge
to masturbate furiously.

I invite any comment and/or criticism about the music of TOOL in general in the hope of generating an interesting discussion...and hopefully others out there are just as excited as I am for 10 000 Days!!! TOOL, please make your way out to Calgary ASAP!!!

Yeah, I can't wait!!
I love the Tool, saw them back 2001. The most incredible concert experience I've ever had. There's is nothing like a Tool show or a Tool record for that matter.

Right on...I've always noticed Tool being a drum driven band...some say this is "Adam's album" I'm very excited...as with all of their albums....gonna be well worth the wait....

....some of you might be interested in checking out "Side Three" by Adrian Belew...due out April 18th... Danny Carey and Les Claypool play on it....not to mention Belew is an integral part of a band that has HUGE influence on Tool's music...KING CRIMSON

This is truley good news. a new album can't come too soon. on a related note, i saw that Guns N Roses are booking tour dates in Europe (Ireland and mainland and such).. and the new album should be out in MAY.

so all seems to be good in this world

yea, i've recently started to get into some King Crimson and some of Adrian Belew's solo stuff...i wish that mini-tour with TOOL and King Crimson back in 2001 came to Canada...that would have been phenominal!!!

I've seen TOOL a total of 4 times now live and I could never get board of them live...

1996 - Toronto, The Warehouse
2001 - Toronto, Air Canada Centre (few days after 9/11)
2002 - Ottawa, the Corel Centre
2002 - Hamilton, Copps Colesium (very next day after Ottawa!)

apparently a lot of fake artwork for 10 000 Days is going round the 'net right now...don't beleive it...

It's good to see some like-minded people here - Tool definitely has an honorary spot in my top 5 of all time great bands - (and yes I know that's a very bold statement) - there's no other band out there, outside of the Beatles, whose cd's were in mortal danger of being worn out in my stereo - by the way, I haven't heard - is Bottrill on board for this one?

for anyone interested...

An Australian radio DJ gave his review of the new album, apparently TOOL are now in Australia and there was a listening party which a previlaged few attended...

TOOL has also posed for some humerous promo pics for the new album...

you can find both at t.d.n (TOOL's semi official site, toolshed.down.net). <<< Just type that into the url (no www. before it), click on the NEWS link at the top of the site and the links for the audio interview and the new pics will be right there...

ps - only 46 days now!!!

Im looking forward to hearing this album. I didnt start listening to Tool until a few years ago. The lyrics and the music are in your face, and Danny Careys drumming is primo. Eulogy and Aenima are the 2 songs i like best from them. Hope they tour thru here

It's going to be good. I heard a rumour about a year ago that Maynard went all Christian and that Tool might not make another album. But, hizzah, for the new one. Pretty damn pumped about it.

Oh some girl that thought she was a huge Tool fan. He has lightened up on his lyrics a little bit, and it's, now, more "spiritual" than Undertow or Aenima, but it's not all preachy. Good thing it's not apparently true.

yea...that rumour was started on the t.d.n website...

every April fools day they make up a new story/joke about something crazy happening to TOOL...I think another year they said that the band members got into this tour bus accident too...

its funny cause the media (MTV mostly) picks this up and reports it on their channel too! I think they fell for the "Maynard turning Christian" and reported that... I think it was a tongue-in-cheek joke because one of the guitarists of Korn apparently quit the band and became a serious Christian...i think they were poking fun at that...

I wonder what this April Fool's Day will bring...

Yeah, I can't wait!!
I love the Tool, saw them back 2001. The most incredible concert experience I've ever had. There's is nothing like a Tool show or a Tool record for that matter.

I saw them three different times on the Lateralus tour and each concert was incredible. I saw them on the Fri or Sat before 9/11 terrorist attacks happened in Madison, Wisconsin. About 2 weeks later they announced they were coming to my own city (Cedar Rapids, Iowa at that time) so I went to that one also. Exactly a year to the day from the firtst concert I saw them again in the Quad Cities (Iowa/Illinois).

One of the coolest moments was at the cedar Rapids concert. tricky opened up for them and put on a good set. about 2/3rds of the way through TOOL's set they played Parabol/Parabola and during the very extended ending of Parabola they dimmed the lights completely. With the lights out (I could barely see thanks to all the lights from the rack equipment) the roadies moved a small rack of tom-toms out in front of Danny's drumset. The very first notes of Traid began and the lights slowly came up and there was Perry from Tricky playing percussion along with Danny doing his normal bad-ass drumming.

I've only been fortunate enough to see them once (even though I started listening to them around 1993 - or mabey 1992??)... it was the last time they passed through Calgary...
That concert blew me away with their ability to keep their intensity at a concert of that size... (the next closest, was the NIN concert from last Oct.)... I've seen APC three times... but that's only because they've been through Alberta more...

I actually happened to go to the tool site because I was wanting to read some lyrics last week when I happened to notice that their next album is comming... I can't wait...

oh, I nearly forgot to mention - while I was reading this post, the comment about another rumor regaurding tool/Maynard made me chuckle...
I think that there have been more rumors about Maynard/tool than any other band.... I can't even begin to recount all the one's I heard in h/s...

I went to one of their concerts at the Corel Centre in Ottawa. I couldn't get anymore than a day off of work though. So a friend and I took that day and drove straight to TO where we picked up another friend, spent the night, then drove to Ottawa for the concert and straight home afterwards.

It was a long ride but soooo worth it.

Looks like that's what I'm gonna have to do for this tour....haven't seen them yet and I can't pass up another opportunity (don't want to wait another 5 years)

....But maybe, just maybe they'll stop in Winnipeg this time around.....

Only a month to go! (2 weeks for Belew's album!) Whoooohoooo!

At first I thought this was a 10,000 day countdown to the new album.
Glad to see it's not, that would take some hardcore fan's to countdown to that.
Cant wait though, not a big tool fan, but they're good to listen to on occasion.

was scanning through the responses on the thread again...I must have missed this question from before:

by the way, I haven't heard - is Bottrill on board for this one?

nope, the guy who produced Aenema, Salival and Lateralus didn't work on this one...10 000 Days was produced by Joe Berresi...here's a short blurb on him from Wikipedia:

Joe Barresi is an American record engineer and producer who has worked with bands such as Kyuss, The Melvins, Queens of the Stone Age, Tomahawk, L7 and The Jesus Lizard. In August 2005 he started working with Tool on recording their new album, after being recommended to them by Buzz Osborne of the Melvins.

so...this year's t.d.n april fool's joke was a bit lame this year IMO (running out of ideas i guess?)...on March 31st it was posted there that on April 1st one of each member of TOOL would be in LA (Adam), NY (Danny), London (Justin) and Sydney (Maynard) at a specific venue to play the tracks from 10 000 Days to the first 500 people that would show up at the venue. Sure enough...as you can see if you visit the site now...it was all a hoax...

At first I thought this was a 10,000 day countdown to the new album.

well, having to wait over 27 years would be a bit too hardcore...yea, no doubt. But based on how often TOOL actually releases a new album...it wouldn't shock me. It would suck...but wouldn't shock me...friggin' perfectionists

ps - 29 days now!!! oh happy happy joy joy!!!
