Butte! The Hell hole of Montana and then some! Lived there in my youth. You know any Smithers? We use to go there for basketball games when a kid and for the fights afterwards. I lived in Browning then. We ruled in basketball for the state. Had great times there. We use to run through the sewer system pipes. They were big and etensive. You got some true Irish in Butte.

I guess opinions are like a******s, everyone's got one! My experience in Butte has been much more of a possitive one than what you describe. Now that the miners are (mostly) gone and the art community has flourished, its a different Butte. By the way, I don't know any Smithers around here (there is one in the phone book who has a photography studio). Good luck with your fighting, let me know if you need any help with the bandaids! Tap er' light!

Butte's got to be a good place to live! My uncle and aunt have lived there all therir lives. My uncle ownes the studio you mentioned. It use to be located on Granite street in old up town before the fire. His dad owned it before him, he was called "Smiggs". Died in 74 I think. I'm sure it has a better rep now then it use to. I haven't been there since 77.

I know it's a bit of a late post ~ I was born in Butte ~ wish I could be there for St. Patty's this year. Powers is my blood name ~ still have family there like my Aunt Maureen (a REAL firecracker) and cousin Jim (MR. Bear Hug!). I've been there twice since I left as a wee small child (adoped out ~ found my family again in '91). I loved the "Beware of Pick-pockets and Loose Women" sign in the old town ~ seems I did come by it naturally!

I'll be there. Got no choice, the band plays the parade every year. We do the Friendly Son's dinner the night before, and someone has to stay out playing until the shamrock is painted on Main and Broadway. Then the Butte parade, the Anaconda parade, and whatever bar will take us. The Anaconda event is smaller, but friendlier. Fewer drunk college kids. Uptown Butte gets rough in the evening. So, if you see me give a yell. Our band wears green (obviously) and I'll be wearing the TALLLL hat!

oh Butte...I made a joke about butte once thats still rough but goes something like this;

How can you tell if a person from Butte has fetal alcohol syndrome? The eyes on one of their heads are way too close together.

That being said I make it over a few times a year as my daughters grandma lives there.

St. Patty's in Butte - The last bastion of debauchery.
