| WrestleMania Posted: 3/14/2006 2:56:02 PM | What is your personal favorite WM match of all time?
For me, it's gotta be Hogan/Warrior from WM VI. I was seven years old, watching it with my big brother. When Warrior pinned Hogan, it was the biggest mark out moment of my life!
A *CLOSE* second goes to Trips/HBK/Benoit from WM XX. Twenty-one years old, and I'm marking out with my brother like we're kids again for Benoit!
Alright ya'll, let's here some opinions.

| WrestleMania Posted: 3/14/2006 10:07:43 PM | Favourite WM match, that's an easy one for me, since my all time fav is Ricky Steamboat! Steamboat/Savage, from WM#3. With all the build up(Savage damaging Ricky's wind pipe, etc) even as an 11 year old kid I kind of figured Steamboat was going over...but I wasn't sure. I went to the local arena and saw it live on the big screen(remember when they did that closed circiut stuff!?LOL!), and the whole event was AMAZING. Still my favourite mania I'd say. I was on the edge of my seat the whole match with all those false finishes. Finally Steamboat came through with the cradle off the Savage slam. What a fantastic finish! Then after watching my fav win the IC title, I get to watch my #2 guy at that time(Hogan), slam and pin the "undefeated" Andre the Giant! What a night! Probably one of my favourite memories ever! I went with my Dad and little brother. It got so loud in there when Hogan and Steamboat won their matches my brother started crying cause it was hurting his ears!LOL! I think Steamboat/Savage still stands up as one of the best Mania matches, and arguably one of best matches ever period, even after all these years. I was kind of disappointed when I read in Flairs book that Steamboat told him Savage and he had to plan out almost the entire match before hand cause Savage was so paranoid it wouldn't deliver. Oh well, still a great match... | |

| WrestleMania Posted: 3/15/2006 11:11:04 PM | Some pretty good matches so far...
What about the Austin/Hart "Submission Match" from WM 13? Greatest. Brawl. Ever.. Also, Bret vs. Owen from WM X, and Warrior vs. Savage from WM VII. Ah, too many awesome matches to choose from!!!
|
| WrestleMania Posted: 3/16/2006 12:30:17 AM | My favorite WrestleMania matches...
II -- British Bulldogs vs. Valentine/Beefcake
III -- Steamboat vs. Savage
VII -- Warrior vs. Savage
VIII -- Savage vs. Flair
A few words about this match... everyone seems to forget it happened or something. Very much a Ric Flair kind of match, though Savage is much better than many of Flair's previous opponents (Sting, Luger, etc.). I love Savage cheating to win at the end.
X -- Bret vs. Owen... possibly the best pure wrestling match ever from WWF, or among the greats. Like Angle vs. Benoit from Rumble '03
X -- Michaels vs. Ramon... a revolutionary match
XIII -- Bret vs. Austin, though I like their match at the previous Survivor Series better, as it's more of a wrestling match
XVII -- hell, the whole event, really. Possibly best PPV ever. I wish the Austin vs. Rock match ended cleanly, without all that stuff with Vince. I did enjoy HHH jobbing to UT, yes I did. Angle vs. Benoit here is too short, and has a bad finish, but is otherwise a portent of later great matches to come between the two.
XVIII -- Rock vs. Hogan... not a great match technically, but the drama and the heat are just incredible.
XIX -- Angle vs. Lesnar... not their best match against each other (SummerSlam '03), but an incredible physical display, considering Angle's condition at the time. I am impressed Brock didn't kill himself spiking his head into the mat on the shooting star press.
XX -- Angle vs. Eddie... great drama, great spectacle, hilarious ending.
XX -- HHH vs. Michaels vs. Benoit.... my favorite wrestler ever has his greatest moment at WrestleMania. I remember my elation at HHH tapping to the Crossface cleanly. I remember wishing Michaels wasn't there, but oh well.
And the closing celebration with Benoit and Eddie. What a great moment. I miss Eddie... wrestling is so much poorer without him. :(
This year... I think that Angle vs. Orton vs. Rey will be terrific, though Angle vs. Rey without Orton would be much better. I'm so happy to see Rey Mysterio in a main event at WrestleMania.
Also, Benoit vs. JBL should be pretty great. Probably JBL's best singles match ever.
I don't look for much from HHH vs. Cena... Cena has regressed, which makes me sad.

| WrestleMania Posted: 3/16/2006 2:12:38 PM | I'm surprised no one has mentioned this, but my all time favorite has to be:
Bret Hart vs Shawn Michaels at Wrestlemania XII in a 60 minute Iron Man match. You could cut the emotion with a knife, and it was between the two best wrestlers in the world at that time. The drama building up to the match (all the training videos etc etc), the real life heat between the two men, and yet they were able to make the best match Wrestlemania has ever seen. I seriously don't think it can ever be topped.
Second has to go to Michaels vs Benoit vs Triple H , and we all know why.
|
| WrestleMania Posted: 3/17/2006 12:09:43 AM | One of my favorites matches was Hollywood Hulk hogan Verse the Rock in Toronto. Hogan playing Heel yet people cheered him and booed the Rock.
Rock verses Austin in Houston with the interference of Vince. Y2j verses Christian with trish turning heel and of course the TLC MATCHES and money in the bank. Finally props to Benoit,Kurty Angle and eddie guerro for great matches.
|
| WrestleMania Posted: 3/27/2006 2:32:37 PM | | Too mnay to name, but that Latter match at Wrestlemania 10 in 1994 between Razor Ramon and Shawn Micheals was a good one. | |
|
| WrestleMania Posted: 4/2/2006 5:13:47 AM | | In England, the soap producers release plots well in advance to ensure big audiences on the night of transmission. Surely it is time that the WWE did the same? | |

You could cut the emotion with a knife,
If by that you mean, made everyone go to sleep. And half the people left before the match was over. Then I agree.
and it was between the two best wrestlers in the world at that time.
In there dreams.
the real life heat between the two men,
They didn't have any real heat, untill after the match.
I seriously don't think it can ever be topped.
Steamboat and Savage was better. Bret vs Austin was better. And Owen vs. Bret was better.
And the WMXX triple threat is one of the most overated matches of all time. The crowd was dead. There was no chemistry in the ring. The match was about when Shawn and HHH were gonna go at it alone.
If it wasn't for the crowd chanting his name. And the ending. Most wouldn't have even known Benoit was even in that borefest.

| WrestleMania Posted: 4/2/2006 12:07:18 PM | Wow Glowman can you ge any more negative? I couldn't disagree more btw. Bret/HBK was a great match, no doubt. Sure it had it's slow spots, but when you're going for an hour you have to do that, you can't go full out the whole time. Some of actually like seeing wrestling though, and a story being told. Maybe they weren't hand down the two best at the time(there were guys in Japan that might have been better), but there is little doubt these were the two best in the WWF at the time IMO. I agree Steamboat/Savage was better, but then I am biased there...
The Mania 20 triple threat was outstanding, best 3 way match I've ever seen anyway. Perhaps do you don't like some of the particular participants in these two matches, cause other then you I think it's universally accepted these were two great matches???
|
| WrestleMania Posted: 4/2/2006 1:03:23 PM |
Sure it had it's slow spots,
They layed on each other for 50 minutes.
Some of actually like seeing wrestling though, and a story being told.
I hate the sports entertainment crap. But this match was not anywhere near as great as Vince has promoted it as. It was very slow and prodding. They litertally did nothing for most of the match. And I mean nothing.
And speaking of story. Bret no-sold the arm. And HBK no sold the back at the end.
Nice way to keep a story going.
(there were guys in Japan that might have been better),
Kwanda and Misawa were better.
Along with Benoit, Liger, and Geurerro.
And Maybe even Owen.
I agree Steamboat/Savage was better, but then I am biased there...
And it was.
Bret vs Austin was a much better story. It was perhaps the best storytelling in the history of the WWE.
And Bret vs. Owen was a far better wrestling match.
Perhaps do you don't like some of the particular participants in these two matches,
Benoit is my favorite current WWE wrestler. And Bret is my favorite wrestler of all time.

| WrestleMania Posted: 4/2/2006 9:54:26 PM | Wow you are hard to please Glowman. I'm not going to run the whole match down with regards to no selling, cause you're probably right. Not the first time that's happened in a great match though, stuff like that is often abandoned towards the end of a match. The story as I recall it was Shawn was actually outwrestling Bret early on, and they did some great mat wrestling sequences IMO. I also loved the spot where Shawn tried the sweet chin music on the outside and caught the time keeper instead. Shawn also did the dive off the top to the outside about the middle of the match as I recall. Yes there were some stalling tactics, but what do you expect in a 60 minute match? I also think the heat was allright for the match considering, and really picked up at the end. The thing you have to remember though is that EVERYONE knows in an iron man match you aren't getting the finish till the end. That hurt it's heat for sure IMO, but I still see this as a solid 8/10 match, if not higher. Watch it again...lots of good mat wrestling and you see basically every freaking move you can think of in this match.
I assume you meant Kawada? Not sure about that, but he was good then(still). Misawa, Lyger, and Benoit were right up there too at the time, right with Bret and Shawn. Guererro was damn good too, but not at his peak yet IMO. Kenta Kobashi was just coming into his own at this time too. I was speaking of Japanese born workers only though, not geijin(sp?). You are right Owen was awesome though. He had everything Bret had more or less and a little more maybe(ariel work). However he never had a run on top or was ever in the spotlight really(other then his Bret feud) so I still wouldn't say he was an all time great worker. He could have been though, but at that time a guy his size would never be given a run in north america...he lacked charisma too IMO, but not on Benoit's level.
Yeah, Steamboat/Savage was better, so was Bret/Austin(you are right, great story telling), and IMO Bret/Owen was slightly better too, cause it was pretty much non stop action for 20 minutes with lots of great sequences and high spots. I wasn't saying these weren't great matches, and I'm clearly not saying they weren't better matches then Bret/HBK, I'm just saying that was a great match also IMO.
Not sure what your problem was with the Mania 20 main event(Benoit/HBK/HHH)??? I think this was an outstanding match, like I said, probably the best 3 way ever IMO. And Benoit is your fav and you still didn't like it??? You are VERY hard to please...ladies take note! LOL!
