Any suggestions for fun things to do in Olympia, or near by? I am relatively new to Washington and not sure where the best places are.

Oh come on now guys, there must be something fun to do in Olympia. If you like the water, its always nice to head down by the Olympia Oyster House for dinner and a nice glass of wine, and if its not raining, you can go for a looooooong walk on the pier...

Just a suggestion, definately better than "not a damn thing"...lololololol

There's a pretty good diversity of things to do, I think. There is a weekend guide in the Thursday Olympian, and the Friday Tacoma News Tribune which have listings of a number of any number of things. In addition, there are a great many trails, parks, and winding roads for that weekend Motorcycle trip. A lot of people like to do sports leagues (volleyball, bowling, pool, etc.) Now that it's getting warmer, more people will be getting out on the water, and into the outdoors. We're pretty close to Crystal Mountain ski resort if you like to ski (one of my hobbies), and Mt. Rainier is fun year round. If you have a particular interest, drop me a line. I may not know the answer, but may know where to point you to someone that does.

Yours, Dave.

fun things to do in Olympia

Hug a tree and protest the war, or load up your quads and get out of town. I've found those are the two things the locals generally do.

Get the hell out of there. I stay south of the Thurston County line if at all possible, unfortunately I am working/staying(part time) in Tacoma. All I can say is how the hell do you people live up there?

i cant compete with this capitol city. you do much in a city that is run by representatives, they wont let you compete at all and the internet is weird here. you can go to the park, right by all the small manchins, and watch your love life die infront of you, because the city has too many druggies and representatives controlling everything and everygirl in it.

Good question. But I have a few ideas. For the younger set there is Oldschool Pizzeria downtown very near the OTC. Really hoppin' place with some of the best pie in town and the best hip hop blasting through the speakers since Grandmaster Flash met the Furious 5.

Or for the older set, there is some very charming places around. I would suggest The Urban Onion, which looks expensive, but it rather fair, The Oyster House, or heck, even Bud Bay Cafe.

I can't say much for the clubs as I'm not a real clubber type swingin' dood, but the way I like to roll is to just wander around and buy stuff for my family. Tis the season and all.

My mother enjoys Archibald Sisters and shops in that district. I'm more prone to hit the book stores and the electronics stores on the west side.

Say what you will about the mall, there are quite a lot of shops now and a lot to see for young and those with a big kid inside. I like to just people watch and the thetre is not half bad. I've heard good things about the new teryaki house as well.

Speaking of Japanese food, Osaka's in Lacey is good. So is The Sushi Boat. But be fair warned, sushi is expensive and they are typically ALL closed on Sundays. If you forget, no big deal, just head on out to Main Chinese Buffet and hit the sushi bar.

Old Main's has really been going through some positive changes and their sushi is quite good and extensive. Afterwards, you can hit up a show at Regal Cinemas with comfy seats and an extensive snack bar. I like getting a gigantic soda and a nacho and seeing something indie or foreign.

Well, I'm sure there are other thing, but I hope that helps you out. Cheers!
