| Do u agree with this saying that you are the creator of your own destiny! Posted: 3/16/2006 4:44:48 AM | Swami Vivekananda says "Stand up, be bold, be strong. Take the whole responsibility on your own shoulders, and know that you are the creator of your own destiny. All the strength and success you want is within you. Therefore, make your own future."
Do you believe that your destiny is already mapped out for you or you make your own way path ??or that really we can't change what will happen because it's already going to happen no matter what.

yes i can make choices as to what paths i may choose follow during my life, but i don't have any control at all over whatever circumstances occured prior and opened a path to me, or closed another off.
ultimately i believe we were all placed here to fullfill a specific role and fate/destiny has final say in my journey

yes i can make choices as to what paths i may choose follow during my life, but i don't have any control at all over whatever circumstances occured prior and opened a path to me, or closed another off. I agree with this statement. I also think that your own attitude towards a given situation or life itself have a big influence on the outcome.
Example: Recently my company went through a merger and I lost my job. I saw it as an opportunity to try something new....Others saw it as a "death sentence". Did not know how they were going to carry on. Well the company asked me and others to stay on a contract basis during the transition. I was the only one who took the opportunity. Monday I was offered a full time position with the "new" company.
My outcome is different from others I formerly worked with...but only because of my attitude and the choices I made.

most definately there are many factors within our control that may contribute to, or hinder the success of our endeavors , and attitude is definately one of the most important ones.
i don't mean to at all suggest that we should just meander through life, aimlessly without taking either responsibility or control of our choices, with the thought that we will sooner or later arrive where we are meant to be.
i think that the most successful people are those that have a clear idea of what goals they which to achieve, keep an openmind as to what path(s) they may have to follow to get there, take responsibility for the things that happen along the way that are within their control, and are willing to compromise in areas that don't really matter.
but ultimately my own personal feeling is that i have pre-determined roles that i was meant to fullfill, that i was put here specifically to be me, , and that i am only one tiny little piece in not only the puzzle of my life, but in the puzzle of countless others as well.

| Do u agree with this saying that you are the creator of your own destiny! Posted: 3/16/2006 9:19:03 AM | i love this particular topic, its really good because it can never be proven whether "fate" is a real uncontrolable force that leads up through life.
to answer that question i will try to explain like this(ps remember this is just my opinion, im not saying that my word is gospel) : ok, if i was to take resposability for my own actions, i would look back and realise that ive made a lot of mistakes in my life and have become the person i am due to what i've learnt from these mistakes, i cant change the past, so its my fate, or destiny to be who and where i am today.....no control=its my fate
but that would mean that our future is also mapped out by fate, how can fate only exsist in past tence, its either real or its not.
so what i see is fate controling our decisions and actions so as individuals the book has already been written, we just see it to the end
BUT if we say yes, it was my decision and my own doing that im here now and who i am today but i will make my own desisions and deal with the reprecussions we are no longer just slaves of the cosmos, we write our own stories and make our own destenies
i think that fate was a term invented to answer questions that have no answer.....why was i born on a particular day?, why was i born to these perants? why is the sky blue?....quick easy answer=it was destined to be that way, its fate
we can blame what ever we want, fate, for the way we are but the belief in fate would also mean that we canot change from this moment, it would make us slaves in a way
so i think fate is just a word invented for lazy, irrisonsable people with no desire to tak controll of their lives, and who want to blame the cosmos for their stuff ups

Posted: 3/16/2006 10:40:52 AM | | I think that a part in us r responsible for our destiny.take the theory of yin and yang.. opposites to all......so, if we r responsible, them part of our lives just happen, without us controling our destiny.....i.e..my g.f. was in n.y.c. walikng on the sidewalk..and boom..an air conditioner fell fron a window and cracked her head open.. she did not plan that.so i believe (just my theory)...that some things happen for a reason, and some things just happen....

| Do u agree with this saying that you are the creator of your own destiny! Posted: 3/16/2006 12:41:58 PM | I do believe that for the most part we create our own destiny and should take responsibility. I have never depended on someone else to make me happy or succesful. That is something that I do on my own. I would never depend on someone else to make me happy. That is unfair if you ask me.
I think it's to easy sometimes in life to fall into the "victim" role and blame everything on everyone else or certain situations. I have had some difficulties in life that I have had to over come ...but have found that in most cases it was because of poor decisions that I have made. Some situations you can't control but most you can. I just learn from my mistakes and move on. So I guess yes, I feel that you should take responsibilty and be in charge of your own destiny.

Your destiny is that your opinions might disappear because this topic is already being discussed in about 15 other threads and what you write in this one may get washed away.
Word to the wise.
Oh and yes, you are creating this destiny yourself by not searching the forums first before starting a redundant thread.

Posted: 3/16/2006 1:20:00 PM | | I believe that childhood shapes us, but as we mature, we make the decisions that govern ourselves, and we choose our paths. Sometimes it seems the options are slim....the best pick of a couple of bad choices...but even then, we may have missed something...another option. This is why we have friends to talk to...sometimes they have ideas we never thought of...or don't even consider. Do we control our own destiny? To a point....that point being the line we draw whereby we allow ourselves to be pushed around....by gov't, employers, spouses, religion...whatever influences we run into in our lives. Some people "don't take no sh*t"...others put up with a lot...some are willing to trade freedoms for security, while others say "H*ll no!" and will fight with word or sword against anyone trying to limit those freedoms. Force of circumstamce often pushes us into situations where we find our choices limited...very few options....but we learn to struggle along as best we can. We still are in control....certainly no "higher diety" is....that'd be like driving at break-neck speed down the highway, and then breaking out in a chorus of "Jesus take the wheel"...and going no-hands!

So people make those choices better and quicker thatn some others. I believe it is the people who learn how to change and choose at will that are the most likley to get what they want from life. Those who procrastinate, resist change or worry are less likely to.
You can choose a path, but you have to know what to do when a tree falls in front of you.

A child raised in a gang member family, with both parents hooked on various substances, will not have the same opportunities as a child from an Ivy League Family
It is possible for them to break out, but not very common to do it with no after effects
There are many things we can change But some things are "Imprinted' into us by our childhood etc
A person from some wartorn African country really has only three choices Become Cannon Fodder Become a Refugee Become the next Dictator
To most of us any one of those choices is not how we would like to live .. .

I know that my life now is the product of decisions I have made, however, there are many people that have affected those decisions. So I would have to say that my destiny is in the hands of myself and many other people. I make choices, but I don't always get what I want. Scarlett
