| What are some of the worst jobs you've ever had?

1. A&W Drive-in waitress....not drive through...drive-in. Verrrrry cold job in the winter. I think it was one the last A&W drive-ins in Canada in Windsor;
2. Highway Flagger - One of the most boring jobs I ever had;
3. Part-time courier...again DAMN cold in the winter;
4. Telephone Marketer - I lasted one day and never even went back for my paycheque;
5. Little Debbie Cake factory worker...my job entailed drilling off US prices and replacing with Canadian ones...oh and screwing up the occassional box somewhat on purpose so my co-workers could have a yummy snack at breaktime;
6. AVON lady...I'm just not AVON lady material.
There were others that were bad but that was more related to working with screwed up people rather than the work itself. | |

The one job I have to say is working for a car dealership
My office was in the back and behind that was the garage. The fumes would go into the office that I couldnt even stand it anymore was even getting headaches and I dont get headaches often. I worked there for 3 weeks. The pay was less then what I was used to getting paid. They were disappointed in my decision. I wonder why? I was working for cheap labor and gas fumes. So lets say I was quite happy with my decison lol. | |

Posted: 3/18/2006 8:19:04 AM | Definately sounds like you made the right decision. My mom worked for a book binding company for several years and has never quite been the same since being exposed to all the fumes there.
I worked on a lot of farms in the valley too when I was a young teen but that actually wasn't that bad. The pay wasn't too hot for most of the seasons but it was fun to be outside all day and joking around with people. | |

produce manager- supermarket
superintendent- apartment building in halifax
Displayer/sales-clearwater lobster
besides that....managing a pet store...was very pleasant with lots of enjoyment......
Ever since ive been self employed and id rather be poor and happy than just paying the bills and getting by and sad......but thats just me....my kitties probably would love me more if i had the nine to five job......but they love me anyways, cause they have too

Posted: 3/18/2006 8:28:30 AM | Cook, at KFC.. Ugh. I was so glad to get out of there. If I took a break I would end up getting out late. Burned myself daily. Stunk after work, like oil, and the breading. Wasnt in the best area ( wyse rd) so Walked home with a bucket of chicken. I figure if I gave up the chicken if need be I would make it home alright  . Prostitutes and other street persons scary when your a scrawny 18 year old. | |

I couldn't agree more. I took a pretty big pay cut leaving my last job but I still don't regret the decision whatsoever. It was a poisen environment that was slowly killing my spirit day by day.

Posted: 3/18/2006 9:12:12 AM | Hmm well I haven't had any really crappy jobs...lol...my first job I got when I was 16 with the "Renfrew County Health Unit" in Ontario. It was awesome I got to go around to stores all over and bust managers for selling cigarettes to miners and go to court hearings I got paid $9/hour; at this time minimum wage was at 6.40 for students (I started this after finding out my mom had cancer) I wanted to try to make a difference. And then a month later I got a job at Tim Horton's...it was great I loved the staff there...I worked from age 16 to 19. I then had my son and now I am running a daycare =)
I got no problems with my past employment. | |

Did telemarketer once when I lived just outside Boston when I was 19. I worked 1 day and never went back. 
Speaking of KFC- I worked at KFC twice.
1st time was when i was 19 and just outside Boston. Girls werent allowed to cook. They could only work out front. WTF!
I moved home and started working at KFC in New Glasgow. There we alternated a week out back cooking and a week out front on cash. I actully loved working there. Left to go back to high school.
I did work at a 24 hour food market in Toronto in Parkdale (ugh) in the late 80's. (I had lived in Toronto for a few yrs in the 80's) Parkdale is one of the worst areas of Toronto. Pimps came in trying to recruit? me...ya whatever. Once a guy came in that was obviously really strung out...walking around kept looking up at me. I had my finger poised on that little button under the counter. Then a cop walked in- the guy left right away. What a surprise- NOT. | |

Contrary to what most think, the actual in-the-freezer jobs were some of the best in the place. The worst one was cleaning out a flow freezer tunnel, washing all it's belts, coils and blueberry/carrot gunk that was stuck to it. When cleaning these out, the temps inside get over 35º C and you often have to climb in tight spaces. Fortunately the tight, cramped ones are the old freezers. Newer ones have alot more standing room but they are still a pain. | |

Posted: 3/18/2006 3:49:59 PM | McDonalds- Over worked me, called me in every weekend.. wouldn't let me work up front always kept me out back with the boys.. and they jipped me on my last pay check a whole 900$ gone because I was too lazy to take them to small claims
Wendys- The management was discriminating against me badly.. I was allowed on 2 positions..In the morning I scrubbed the pavement outside, swept up all the garbage, changed all the garbages, cleaned the grills, fryers, and equipment inside, unloaded the truck 3 times a week then went on Grill from 10-2 I flipped burgers all day.. literally, I wasn't allowed to put together the burgers, or serve the customers.. I got to flip burgers.. just because The manager was an idiot and discriminating against my hearing problem..
Value Village- The supervisors were just idiots... lol I dont think they know what they were doing..A co worker got promoted to supervisor and was being rude to me.. cause bunch of trouble.. | |

At the time minimum wage was about $2.00 and they paid over $8.00. As a casual worker, you inevitably worked flour. This involved two guys working together to load 140 pound bags of flour onto a ship. You had to grab the bag from a pallet and stack it in the ship. By the end of the shift your muscles felt like they were on fire and your hands were dead...oh yeah, you were covered in flour too. | |

Yea it was the same here about the girls cooking. I don't see why. It requires a lot of lifting. Getting the basket out of the fryer, was tough at first cause I was a pipsqueak. A girl could of done that just as good as I could. I think fast food jobs, its all about management whether the experience is good or not. I have a couple horror stories. I will spare you all, and for the record I do eat at KFC once in a while ( theres like none around anymore it seems). | |

Second worst was for a clothing store in Victoria...they are no longer around, but I was always fixing the other employees screw ups when it came to displays and the stock room. | |

Posted: 3/20/2006 7:08:09 PM | 1- Scraping and scrubbing 40 000 gallon chemical vats in hasmat gear in the middle of august for 8$ an hour and no health beneifts (it lasted five days, as soon as I made rent I quit)
2- taking care of mentally handy capped kids with an intense interest in their own fecies
3- retail, any retail, its all the same
4- telemarketer- see retail except at the end of the day your feet dont hurt
5- Industrial wood shop- push warped wooden boards through a plainer for 10 hours a day, I think time actually went backward. | |

Posted: 3/31/2006 1:52:13 AM | My last one...I worked as a graphic designer, (not so bad, I loved my computer)...In 15 months I worked for a small company from the french shore; they moved me four times, laid me off three times; lied to me about the medical plan (which I desperately needed...I needed some meds I couldn't afford)...I was eligible in March, I got my plan in November.
They severely underpaid me, conned me, would come get me to do jobs when I was laid off (the boss would show up at my house without even a phone call to do work and then wouldn't pay me for it)...I lived and worked down the French Shore for 8 of the 15 months and don't speak a word of french; she tried to get me to move into her husband's apartments (I presume so she could control me more by getting me to do extra work in lieu of rent. They tried to get me to do sales on the road for about six months (I can't even sell raffle tickets - not that kind of agressive personality). Tried to control everything you did including smoothing down your hair...
Then there was this federal election. I was hired by the local legion to take photos of Jean Cretien's visit just before...the docked the money I made off my pay...One minute you think you're riding high and two weeks later, I was laid off December 1 with 2 days notice and that week's pay...I had no food, not enough money for rent; was freezing to death with the sea at my back in an apartment with no insulation; no Christmas, no Christmas decorations.
I worked two weeks on a website for the landlord's real estate business in lieu of rent, came up here and was hired on the spot two days after Christmas, when my former boss wanted me to come into the office to show her how to use a portrait camera...
January 2nd, I loaded everything I owned in my old beater, and walked into the office and dropped off my keys saying I had another job, "cya brater" and left them with five year books and no one to do them; a couple of websites and no one who knew the first thing about doing them.....and they had the nerve to try to hire me to do some freelance work for them after I came here. (for which I know I would not have been paid.) | |

Wal-Fart in Bayerslake, automotive dept. i may be reconized from this job. I had the long blond hair. (lasted 4 years). Got ripped off every second i worked there. Worst place to work in this world. | |
