Posted: 3/19/2006 10:00:52 PM | Hysterectomy victims, yes I say victims, How do you handle the effects of a hysterectomy that totally destroys your sex drive. When you go from having a healthy sex drive to zilch, nada, nothing. My Gyn took me off of HRT, and now have no desire, it's not affected my attraction toward men but has absolutely destroyed any physical or mental desire. Going on 3 years now I am pretty aggrivated at the situation. And how do you get a man that will understand and help you to work through the problem. I know I'm not the only one going through this. Anyone have some advise. Do I tell the guy about it or keep it to myself and fake it. What are my choices ? Stay alone or ?

Find another doc if you have to but get back on the wagon...it will make a new woman of you...been there first hand and good luck | |

A hysterecomy is not always the cause of lack of drive - sometimes it can be other medical problems, that is why you should talk with your GYN. You may just need a "female version of Viagra". | |

I still have my ovaries and HRT is not necessary.
I had sex two weeks after inspite of doctors orders, and all was fantastic.
(my very first internet lover was coming to town, and I was not missing out for anything)
It has been over 5 years and I will never regret it. | |

Guess you had a total ?
I had the laproscopic one.... I requested they left my ovaries
after doing vast amounts of research on the subject..... never felt
better in my life.
As far as your problems... have you tried some of the herbal supplements?
They sell them at walgreens as well as health food stores. Maybe try and
see how it goes.
Your situation can also be mental..... and not a physical issue.. something to consider? | |

I don't have to worry about getting pregnant, or the whole period thing. My drive is the strongest it have ever been and I am enjoying the most orgasms I have ever had. Posted: 3/21/2006 2:17:57 PM | Yes............. I had a complete hestorectomy at age 42, im 50 now and it did bother me for a few years , and I never took hormone replacments. I take Estavan and other viatmins as well as exercise. I love sex more than ever although Im not as naturally lubed as I use to be, but there things for that. . It takes time to get past the hot flashes (estravan was the cure) and the blotting swelling after the surgury. I also feel my hypo thriodism was due from the hestorctomy but then agian I do take medicene for that, thank goodness for I couldnt lose wieght due to it now Im skinny agian so yes there is life after the dreaded hestorectomy. | |

I had mine done 7 years ago and sex has never been better. My desires and feelings are more heighten now than ever. It was the best thing I ever did. And for you to say you've lost your womanhood is a sure sign that this is taking a toll on your self worth. You need to seek medical advice from another doctor, if that one doesn't help you, then go to another and another till you find the one that makes you feel alive again. Don't give up, you just need to find a physician that can help you get through this. I'm sorry you are feeling so down about it. From reading all the posts looks like I'm in the majority when it comes to feeling better after your hysterectomy. So please seek another doctor. | |

This means some expensive lab tests, but for me it was worlds above the synthetics. Might be worth a try. | |

Posted: 3/23/2006 9:00:45 PM | I used to worry about this happening, when I had my hysterectomy a year ago. I haven't been with anyone since, yet....but there's no doubt that the desire/feelings are still there...big time! Mine was also a 'total'...and no HRT!
I agree with the rest...another option is to go to the 'hystersister' website. Google it..there is a message board, with lots of topics, and the women are very helpful.

They have to think of it terms of what would you feel like it your testicles were removed, whether by surgery or accident, then they might comprehend. First go to you doctor and get a replacement therapy going. Generally there are natural pharmacists (homeopathic?) who can mix an incredible cream of progesterin and I believe yams. This blend will take away any of those nasty side effects. There is also an estrogen cream that will get your hormones going again; the stuff works, but its messy. Gets absorbed into the system through your skin.
Second, go find a man that will work with you and turn you on. I went through a period of "no urges" and realized it wasn't me, it was them. Once I found someone who knew what to do, there were major urges and it felt awesome again. 
Believe me, I feel like a total woman; no periods, no problems and now that the kiddies are gone, no more locks on the doors! YEE HAA | |

Posted: 3/24/2006 9:16:25 PM | You should really direct this to the men as well who are and have been sexually involved with women who have had hysterectomies and who don't always have the same feelings of sensual arousal. I was married to one and had relationships with two other hysterectomy females. With the right man, it works out okay. Two of the women, by the way, also had partial mastectomies. None of them were on any kind of hormones or estrogen. How does it work? Gently, slowly, and together, but it does work.
Should you tell the man? Yep because some men don’t deal with it well. It is better to get a man with the maturity to understand and the willingness to work through the challenges. | |

I had my almost full(1 ovary left) hyst. done 36 years ago and have been enjoying the "good life" (after the first 6 months of HRT), ever since. My doc took me off them about three years later and had no lessening of desires. Good times ahead, girl. | |

I feel better than I did at 25 because at 25 I was
bleeding to death and sick with anemia all the time.
I feel strong now.
Best thing I ever did.
Was married at the time of hyst and hyst only made
sex better.
I have had a good experience with it.
Being divorced now... what kills it for me sexually

My ex used to say that out of a month I had one good week because the week before my period I was mysterable the week of my period I was in pain and the week after I was recovering. All the pain went and all the passion returned. Now I am ready to go go go every day but just no one to go with. LOL | |
