Had a copy of The Flasher by Mistura, but other than that, the scene did nothing for me. On my side of the hill, heavy metal got our feet twitching.

Not northern soul as such, but I do go to the Soul Nights at Ilkeston co-op at the end of each month - they are fantastic, 4 separate rooms and dancing to die for!

If you're all into the Northern Scene - trouble is, so I have been told, people go for the music not to meet new partners... so I am safe then! lol.... Surely you must have heard of the following website?

www.soul-source.co.uk

www.modculture.com

www.newuntouchables.com

I prefer the ska/skinhead reggae/rocksteady

Mod boys are too skinny and not tall enough for me and they tend to ride those motorbikes that have hair dryers for engines... what they called again!? o yea... Scooters! pmsl I am only joking.....!!!!! Come on, where's yoru sense of humour people?

If you are looking for an excellent Northern Soul Night

Saturday June 14 TALK OF THE SOUTH SOUL CLUB

At the Luton Rugby Club, Midlands Road, Luton - 2 mins from Junction 10 of the M1

Sean Chapman, Pete Tebbutt and guests... 7.30 - 100am £8 otd

See you there people, it is a wicked night... nice and cheap drinks too.

Lesleyy, thanks for mentioning the Derby nights, I'm really in the dark as where to find a good local night but will have to check something out locally, only really been into the music for a few years so relatively recent. Not sure as to what counts as bona fide Northern but I personally love 'Moonlight, Music and You' by Laura Greene.....even tried to get the DJ to play it at the Derby meet on Friday but he didn't have it on him!

Nice to see this thread being revived anyway....keep the faith people

Wow, I was just at a Northern Soul night last night. In Edinburgh we have them once a month and still have all dayers etc. They are good nights out though sadly I cant do the dances I just like to watch and get up and do my own thing. I wish I had got into it when it first came on the scene but I was married with kids at the time so didnt really go out clubbing etc (try to make up for it now though )

I too am into Northern Soul, and being brought up in the St Helens / Wigan area, it was almost compulsory to like , even though a lot of us were into heavy metal / glam rock and assorted other genres at the time ..
Edwin Starr at the Casino, brilliant ..... put me back out dancin though lol
