| Why do people think 80s hair is still cool?
Posted: 3/27/2006 7:48:58 AM | I mean seriously.... we are bombarded by images of people with modern hairstyles every day.... most people see magazines, TV, internet...
So why do I see so many women with huge, 80s mullet-heads short on top long in the back hair?? Same with dudes? Or the ever-popular bad perm "wet look" frizzy curly hair-do? THE WET LOOK WENT OUT IN 1994, girls!!!!
Do you not see people with modern, nice haircuts walking around and say "Gee, I should update my look" Do you honestly think outdated frizzy hairstyles are cool? I mean seriously...
You may have better luck scoring a date if you don't look like you walked out of a biker bar circa 1987.

Posted: 3/27/2006 8:30:58 AM | Style get recycled all the time jazzthief. 15 years ago, the 60's were back in alot of ways, then the 70's returned in all its glory. The 80's are on their way back too. In just a few short years, we should be in the middle of that mess again!
However, some people don't change with the times. They have their hair or clothing styles and that's that. I still see guys with that god forsaken mullet walking around or women with those awful poodle perms or teased out hair. Or those tight jeans guys used to wear that scream " 1984 just called, it wants its jeans back!"
We're not all the same. Some people are trendy and some are not. Its a buffet, enjoy the ride. | |

Maybe if you are talking computer software to maintain compatability. But as far as your appearance? Criminy, just another examply of people letting the media and fashion trends lead them around by the nose as though they have no ability to determine for themselves. I don't even care for most of the "latest trends" that have come and gone, and come back around again. (Save all your old stuff and sooner or later it will be "stylish" again according to someone. My long hair and levis have been my style for 20 years. It is me, and I am comfortable with it. Might also add that both get a lot of compliments, and always have. Not like I was ever looking for approval, and actually prefer people who are more true to themselves and what THEY are comfortable with, not to mention the confidence to just be what they are, rather than "trend whores". | |

Interesting comment coming from someone who was too young to know anything about 80's hairstyles during the 80's...are you saying that had you been in your 20's in the 80's when the big hair was THE THING...that you would have gone against the way all your friends were doing their hair and dressing?
As for why someone would still have a mullet or big frizzed out hair? I don't really care...to each their own and I'm glad people have different styles. WHile I'm not attracted to a mullet...I'm sure the girl with big frizzy 80's hair is so see, there's someone for everyone. | |

I recently got a pretty radical haircut, well for me anyways. It was a copy of the host of Golden Globes Fashion Police. I got home and thought, "Lord, Farrah lives!" But everyone- my family, friends, co-workers-have raved about it. It's not that far removed from what I wore in 12th grade, but it's back in.
I still look at old Julia Roberts flicks like Mystic Pizza and Pretty Woman and think she is lovely. But that is my generation.
I like anyone's looks, so long as they do it with style! Even vintage style.

1/ They are too young to remember the 80's
2/ They are trying to recapture a style they really liked the first time around.
3/ They don't know enough to make their own decisions and so they follow the trends or do whatever the media says they should do.
4/ They simpley don't know any better.

they make a person look dumb

they were ugly back then, and theyre ugly now

You mentioned something being wrong with curly hair. My hair is curly, it is naturally so. I cannot straighten it, not even the hairdresser can. What is wrong with curly hair? It is not 80's.

That's another thing.... when people go in for the cuts, and say "Make me look like Samatha Fox from 1986, doesn't the hair stylist say "Uhhhh, no, that just does not look good"... Mine would!
