| Opinion on Female Tattoos - Lower Back! Posted: 4/1/2006 8:12:05 PM | | So here's my dilemna...my 14 year-old daughter wants to get a tattoo on her lower back...I have no problem with that, since I have tats of my own and understand it from a different angle. I have heard that some B/F's love to look at them (and you can imagine what they're doing while they're looking!), and have also heard there's some form of symbolism attached to females having their lower back tattooed. Frankly, I don't know wtf is up with this stuff, but will support my kid regardless of any "message" this might convey. Opinions welcome...and requested. Am a Dad who's cool with most s**t...but I don't understand the symbolism of small of back tats... | |

| Opinion on Female Tattoos - Lower Back! Posted: 4/1/2006 9:50:08 PM | I find them attractive... but at the same time, I guess there is something sexual about it... don't ask me what it is... regardless... at 14, maybe not such a great idea to get something permanent there...
I got a tattoo when I was lot younger, and I totally regret it... she has to truly want this... not just because she thinks it looks cool now... because who knows what 3 -5 years down the road will bring...

| Opinion on Female Tattoos - Lower Back! Posted: 4/1/2006 10:03:21 PM | | personally those lower back tats dont have much appeal. to me it says "slut". i really dont care if there is a message or not. tats on the shoulder blades, arm, leg, hip, chest, not a big deal. but that lower back thing, man that just isnt right in my eyes. | |

One has to wonder what the view of them will be in 10 or 20 years.... and when applied to the lower back skin of a young teen what that might lppk like 10 or 20 years down the road... true the weared doesn't see them... but others do.

Posted: 4/1/2006 11:35:52 PM | Card Guy, I think it's cool that you'd be open minded to allow your daughter get a tattoo right now if she wants one, especially since you have some. It's even possible that I'll cross that bridge as well one day with my kids, because I have 5 myself.
But if you want a female's opinion, I think that she might be a bit too young to get such an obvious tattoo right now. Especially if you are talking about the "tramp stamp" area (lower back, mid-waist area) because I've heard it be referred to in that way many, many times.
So, maybe because of her age (and that stereo type) she'd possibly consider getting a different one in a different area or something? Just for now at least. Especially because trends, personal interests and tastes change from year to year and I'll tell you right now that I did not like what I liked at 14 when I was 18...or 21, etc.
Just a suggestion... | |

| Opinion on Female Tattoos - Lower Back! Posted: 4/2/2006 12:46:28 AM | wow 14 is way too young to make a rational decision such as having a tatoo. they stay with you for life and altho you like them, many people i know have had regrets. id tell her to wait untill she's 18 when she is old enough to make such choices. i have nothing against tatoos.each to their own and if i had the guts i would have one on my lower back, if done professionaly they can look quite nice. it certainly doesnt make someone a slut just because they have a tatoo. but again..14 is way too young!! | |
|
| Opinion on Female Tattoos - Lower Back! Posted: 4/2/2006 7:26:32 AM | | For the record, I also agree 14's way too young to be wanting a permanent inkblot on one's body. Just like I agree it's too early in life to be exploring one's sexuality. On the other hand, reality bites - and kids today will make their choices with or without parental involvement. Long-term consequences rarely make the list of things kids consider when they're off to do something "cool". That's what we're here for! While I have NO intention of marching her down to the nearest artist, I do intend to get all the information about it I can. Hence this post...and thanks for the many opinions. | |

| Opinion on Female Tattoos - Lower Back! Posted: 4/2/2006 8:16:41 AM | they're called slut badges for a reason.. besides, they're tacky and forever.
Kids at 14 should NOT be getting tats for the "forever" reason alone.

| Opinion on Female Tattoos - Lower Back! Posted: 4/2/2006 9:03:33 AM | can she get a tattoo at 14? here in CA, you HAVE to be 18. as a matter of fact... i'm taking my son to the shop, the weekend of his birthday and we're getting matching tats.
on the other hand... where there's a will, there's a way with 14 year old girls. if she can't get it legally, she'll find a way to get it illegally and you don't want that to happen. i'd encourage her to wait until you can take her to a legitimate shop, start looking at different shops and artwork, explain to her the dangers of getting a tattoo in an unsanitary condition or by someone with a home made tattoo gun, scoot her in the right direction to show your support and just see if you can get her to wait. if she can't wait and goes behind your back to do it... she has to live with that mistake, not you.

| Opinion on Female Tattoos - Lower Back! Posted: 4/2/2006 9:36:26 AM | Card guy.My daughter wanted a Tattoo when she was 14,I signed for it..Next day she went to school and the teachers told me,I am lucky because in Michigan it is considered "child abuse"at her age and I could be presecuted for that. Does it make my daughter a" SLUT" as someone said,Hell NO..that is a very harsh judgmental opinion..to judge people from the outside..to me those kind of people will call her a Slut even if she puts her hair up in a sexy way..who needs to hear their opinions anyway? In fact,I went and got one myself the following day after she got hers.Yes, it is forever, but so is everything we do in our lives. We live through it, and it is forever with us. Our actions we make in life are just as permanent as a little ink on our body, wouldn't you say? | |

| Opinion on Female Tattoos - Lower Back! Posted: 4/2/2006 9:43:31 AM | | Now 14 is probably too young, wait until she is 18, but I have no problem with tattoos on the lower back. If they are tastefully done they can be really appealing and sexy. It doesn't mean the girl is a slut, they are just expressing themselves. I have known a few sluts that didn't have any tattoos, lol It doesn't change the girl, just adds to mystery. | |
|
| Opinion on Female Tattoos - Lower Back! Posted: 4/2/2006 10:10:00 AM | I have a tat on my lower back and i see no problem with them. mine is a little higher on my back though. But i guess no matter where you have tats there will be some stereotype with them. Them sleeves are seen as being a biker or a bad guy or a thug does that mean everyone is no.
Now that being said i think 14 is way to young to get a tat. She should wait till she is older and can pick somethin that will still have meaning to her years down the road.

| Opinion on Female Tattoos - Lower Back! Posted: 4/2/2006 12:18:16 PM | IMO..there's nothing wrong with tatts..period. The only lable that comes attatched to them (thinking objectively) is "individuality"...a good thing..? yes..? no..? who cares..?
Anyway ...I told my son he can get any tatt he wants...when he is legally an adult...tatts are for life..let them make the choice when they have a good idea of who they are and who they want to be......

| Opinion on Female Tattoos - Lower Back! Posted: 4/2/2006 3:57:46 PM | | My personal opinion is that the lower back tattoos are overdone! I think they look nice but why would you want something that tons of other people have. Be original! | |
|
| Opinion on Female Tattoos - Lower Back! Posted: 4/2/2006 4:02:13 PM | | Maybe, and this is simply my view 14 is just young! A tattoo is not removable. My child is now 17 and whilst I can legally but not effectivly tell her no,she has realised that there is plenty time for doing this sort o thing. The world is thier oyster and as her father maybe you mighth wanna look a bit farther down the road for her. | |

| Opinion on Female Tattoos - Lower Back! Posted: 4/12/2006 4:33:03 PM | 14 ????
First off, which no one has addressed. IF and that is a big IF, you can find a tattoo parlour that will do her a tatt even at that age, even with your consent, I would NOT trust !!!!!
If Im not mistaken, in Canada anyway, it's illegal to tattoo someone under the age of 16 (with parental consent even at that age).
If you can find someone who would be IRRESPONSIBLE enough to tattoo a child, I wouldn't trust them at all to be safe. They are doing tatts JUST for the money and they'll tattoo anyone, anywhere. A good reputable place will not do anyone under 16, no face tatts, no hand tatts, no names (other then kids) etc...............
I have 11 tatts and counting just so you know I can relate.

| Opinion on Female Tattoos - Lower Back! Posted: 4/12/2006 5:13:43 PM | | Personally I have a low back tat ...and yes guys love to look at them , and yes they are doing something at the time....and that's from the guy's version!! personally I think 14 is too young I was 16 when I got my first tat and it wasnt exactly the best one and am now going to have to update it to make it better.LOWBACK tat's are a fad and mine is something that acctually means something and it's personalized and I think that they are considered mainly sexual so I think shes tooo young unless that s what you want her to be like...just a thought | |

| Opinion on Female Tattoos - Lower Back! Posted: 5/8/2006 3:25:48 PM | | I think 14 is also young. My daughter has wanted on for a few years but couldn't get one because of her age (not allowed even with me there, when she was 16) now that she's 17 she got one on the back of her neck. I was there for the event (I think you should be there also just to make sure it's clean including the artist) I'll get one too one day when i get the nerve. | |

| Opinion on Female Tattoos - Lower Back! Posted: 5/8/2006 3:38:33 PM | As a mother of 3 boys and the proud owner of 4(and counting) tats..
My oldest son, 13, started bugging me about getting a tat when he was 10. At the time I didn't have any, but was getting ready to go get one. So, I called my tat artist and made arrangements with him. My first tat is on the lower outside of my calf, rt leg. I took my oldest 2 sons with me. After watching Mom get hers done, I've not heard a word about them getting one. They're still fascinated with them, but they've seen what it takes to actually get one. My oldest, in fact, designs mine himself. :)
May be beneficial to you to take her to a shop and let her watch one being done, the same type she's looking to get. I don't have one on my lower back and don't plan on getting on. I have a thing about wanting to look at my tats. lol
Just a suggestion..

| Opinion on Female Tattoos - Lower Back! Posted: 5/8/2006 8:30:34 PM | When I was 18 I got a tat on my lower back. This was like 5 years ago. About 2 months ago I started reading the forums here on POF. This was the first I had ever heard of a lower back tattoo being refered to as a "tramp stamp". I find it hilarious. 10 years from now there will be another part of the woman's body that when tattooed signifies the tramp stamp. That was not what was going through my head when I got this tattoo. It's the only one I have, and I will never stop loving it. Everytime I haven't peeked at it for a few months and I look at it, I smile. However. I am not sure if I would let my child at age 14 get a tattoo. Think about it. 2 years ago she was 12... | |

| Opinion on Female Tattoos - Lower Back! Posted: 5/8/2006 9:07:51 PM | 14yrs old <<< are you mad? Do you really want guys looking at your 14yr old daughter as some sort of sex toy? You say your a cool dad and you want to be open minded, I say your weak!!! Stand your ground as a parent that loves your daughter and do the right thing, say 'No your too young, give it a couple of years, if your still this keen then we'll discuss it some more.' It may seem cool now and make her popular but understand this. MOST men when they see a girl with a tattoo automatically think she is "of age". if you want your daughter to face 20 something guys hitting on her because they mistakenly think she is fresh meat then by all means why stop there... buy her a vibrator too.
Your tattooed and so am I, therefore I will assume you know the go. Tattooed at 14 what a joke, your lucky someone doesn't remove her from you. I like them on the lower back, although when I was young they were considered somewhat tribal, or gang related, like an ownership brand, this bit*h belongs to us type thing. Times have changed and its not only hookers and strippers that have them now, which is great, like I said they can be very very sexy. Which is my point, sexy and 14 equals trouble, big trouble.
Uncool Dad, very uncool. Think of your grandchildren, cos the way your going she'll be breeding real soon. When granddaughter number 1 at 10yrs says she wants one? what then?
Does your 14yr old buy her own smokes? or does she pay for yours... <<< yeh mate borderline sicko, that's the path your taking. Think about tomorrow, she has much life to live, don't let her believe she is all grown up now, already. Come on, be that Dad, she will "respect" you more when she is able understand what it means not just spell the word.
Wake up.
